Sorrow’s Furnace Commander
“You’re the mount, karka’s ride you instead, and thus they die happy!”-Colin Johanson
I like the thought of event-specific loot, but players should be doing the events for the fun, not because its their best chance at getting a precursor.
PS This should probably be moved to the suggestions forum.
I think challenging content, even one-time content, that has a significant build-up and cumulates in a massive and hour-long event that has a karka-chest-like reward would be awesome. We definitely need more of it, and less living story teaser months. People like to feel rewarded, and currently the living story is so unrewarding that I feel like it costs me potential gold earned elsewhere by spending time on it.
I can see where your coming from, however I don’t quite agree. I personally don’t like the one time events because I don’t generally get to play them. However Might I suggest a random mailed reward depending on your level of completion of the story content? Maybe like a skin or another drawing. This would give an incentive to play over the whole month, not one sunday evening.
What about just new skins to commemorate you did the content? That would be more awesome. Something to show off “I was there.”
. Maybe even tie the loot to having participated in X amount of achievements during the weeks it was unfolding. Nothing too difficult or overly simple, just enough to make sure we stay involved in some way.
A goal of some type would be nice but anet need to make sure we are aware of that at the beinging of the event not the end.
Can you imagine the angst if we get to month six they announce everyone that “completes” frost and flame gets a Karka chest, dusk and a free trip to Seatle but you find because you didnt collect the carkeys of Snord the Boring back in Febuary your missing one achievement.
Not like the Karka event though. I put over 30 hours into the event and missed out on the chest because in my timezone the “finale” was a Monday morning whilst I was at work.

Yeah, I was pretty upset at that myself. Just like you, I was at work like many were (or sleeping). If it was announced that a chest of that importance was given, I think many would have went into work late, left work early or skip work altogether.
The way the Lost Shores event was implemented caused such outrage that I really hope ANet doesn’t repeat it. The one-time events are far too restrictive in how the player base can participate.
However, being rewarded for participating in these long-term events is a good idea. For these living story events that stretch out over several months, I really think they should gauge participation based on the related achievements, similarly to the new daily system. If you complete a certain percentage of the event achievements, you get a chest (similar to the daily reward or Jade Maw) once the overall event ends. This gives players absolute flexibility in how and when they participate, as long as they know what the required completion level is for the achievements to get the final reward.
Why can’t people nowadays do anything just for the enjoyment of itself and without expecting a cookie for every step they do? The story is the reward and when you like the story you are rewarded enough and if not then don’t do it.
Stop being so entitled.
Please don’t prescribe your brand of fun on everyone else.

I was in the same boat as you guys over that weekend, having invested similar time for the other quests, bugged as they were. Regardless it wouldn’t have mattered. That event was aimed squarely at one timezone alone and if you couldn’t stay online with Anet’s servers (which a lot couldn’t), then it was highly unlikely that you would be getting back on again, no matter where in the world you were.
The timezone they aimed to shoot for was their “highest concurrency” ie. west coast of USA, but obviously this didn’t work either because the servers, no matter how well they were upgraded, just could not support the highest concurrency of players. The mass culling and eventual booting of players was enough to rile anyone up. Imagine the number of people that would have gone through the roof if they knew that they stood a VERY good chance of a precursor from the end chest. Highest concurrency or not, I reckon the servers would have crashed.

ohh who’s asking for a “reward”. Who is entitled then? Rewards are given out on every tiny thing in this game so I would really wish they could leave it out here.

I’m so glad you’re not in charge of anything.
Well I’m glad you are not in charge either.^^ Good that we sorted that out.

Doing something once or twice is fun, doing it 50 times without a reward isn’t, repetition without a reward is not fun, and many stop doing it fast..which then becomes a waste of content..
While experiencing new things in the game is fun, to progress ones characters rewards need to be added or people feel they are not getting anywhere and move on..
I personally blame the game and mechanics needed to play, not the players..
Play for the content? First release was 15 mins of fixing signs…. this was soooo amazing I want to go do this for a living. Next release offered 2 hide and seek items with no story either. Karka event provided a ton of lore but the content was handled so shoddily that it was a fail, there has been more information provided about the living story on the forums than in the game which kinda debunks play for fun. They should spend the time on loot balance rather than free loot for turning up. One time event rewards should not be profitable items which upheave the game economy.
It’d be awfully nice if at the least we could get a fusion weapon ticket from doing this event. You know, give people who actually enjoy the story a nice reward instead of sticking them in those stupid Black Lion boxes?
I agree with some here… there should be a reward.
The story is dry and boring with some obscenely mind numbing parts to it. The item find part was utter dribble, I spent forever looking for them, to hand them in in Lions Arch to perhaps the most underwhelming conclusion possible.
If you want me to grind achievements then make this worthwhile. At 80 I don’t need XP or Karma either!
I’m bored to the back teeth with GW2 right now and was hoping this would be some kind of renewal. Yawn.

I like this idea, for Living Story content which is apparently temporary (not sure for how long content will stick around) a guaranteed ONE ticket per ACCOUNT would be a very nice way to reward players who put the time in. if we want more than 1 weapon then yes BLC is a good way as long as players are rewarded first. As the user above me posts, we don’t need xp/karma.
Perfect reason because i didn’t do the tiniest part of this F&F content. I don’t need karma for sure. Where is the reward, title, reason to log again on the game and even do it.
Is it at least tracked doing all events, giving me any kind of award?
Tell me.
Ohh wait, maybe we will get a title above the head, yay..
A precursor after all the time wasted doing those new DEs huh? pff..

Not a fan of the karka-like chest as the main reward. End it with a choice of payment – a ticket for a fused skin, F&F exclusive dye and something else in the same way you pick from 3 options in the personal story and get whatever else automatically.
It would be nice if all these people we help would offer us, in advance, a specific reward or payment. We have an economy dominated by people that play Trading Post but people out in the world adventuring don’t even know what they’re going to be paid for a job.

When i was doing the quests i thought the same, killing 100 mobs with the new weapons i though there might be a chance for a ticket to drop during the instances or one as a reward for completing everything. Ok stick extras in the box you want a 2hander and a bow you need to play BL lotto but the rewards did seem a little underwhelming.
Fixed the signs check
Helped the walking wounded check
Found the lost carkeys check
Did both instances check
reward about as much karma as 20 minutes of pen/shelter events and a cute fire boost that was opps single use.
nah one time events are timebound and then you would have all the people who couldn’t play at that one specific time in arms that they didnt get a chance to participate. Also there is NEVER going to be a time when all the players will definitely have the chance to be on for an event since they come from all over
