Does anyone know where the writers at Guild Wars 2 got the ideas for the many names on the gravestones throughout the world?

Were there any contests to include character names on gravestones, perchance? Or are those simply the product of game designer creativity?

Some of them are characters from GW1. Some of them are allusions to developer names (and possibly their family/friends/pets). Others are just made up.

When you say characters from GW1, do you mean PCs or NPCs?

An example of the above would be the graves of Gwen, Nicholas “the Traveller” Sandford, Professor Yakkington, and Nola Sheppard in Ebonhawke, all of whom were famous NPCs the player encountered in their travels. (And in Gwen’s case, a Hero that accompanied them on their adventures.)
