Flight Abilities - Why no Mastery?
Very good question. This is the sort of thing we expected from gliding, or at least in the new mastery line. But no, it’s behind yet another kind of currency, and the skills appear to be character bound, not account bound. Plus, the currency is also used for an account bound portal skill for alts just to get in the zone without going through two relatively long instances.
I’m feeling pretty cranky about this, can you tell?
Also it only appears to work on the one map, which makes no sense.

There is only one lv in the mastery that allows you to use the high concentrated energy of the blood stone in the map.
With the first episode, only one lv of the mastery was added. I believe the plan is to add more levels as more episodes are introduced.
Now, why only on this map? It is the only map with concentrated bloodstone on it. If the theories are correct all the bloodstones in Tyria will explode sooner or later… soooo probably we will able to use it in the future. (and more since it is an amazing mechanic)
I’m actually happy the flight skills can be bought with a bit of map farming for the currency. That means I don’t have to spend mastery points on them. Yes, there are more mastery points gained from the story and map … seven total? I have 5 in my hero panel now, and one left to achieve (the /yes one, just haven’t seen that fight yet), and spent one on Counter Magic. I may have had one or two before LS3 began, I don’t recall.
In the expectation of future mastery lines taking a lot more points, I am happy to be able to bank a few now.
I would have preferred more mastery points in the story/zone and Flight Abilities using the existing system. I’m with the OP — it’s just like any other mastery in that it extends abilities for the account.
It’s the flaw of the mastery system. The problem is, they want you to play through the content. If it was a HoT mastery, you would have been able to practically unlock it instantly. To counter that, they would have had to introduce a new Bloodstone mastery section, which they should have done all around to separate the different types of content (raids, fractals and legendaries for example should have had their own sections).
The new mastery line will almost certainly be expanded as the story continues. Since the gliding is only for one map it makes sense to have it use the map currency.
Probably because the fen counts as a HoT map, but the flight ablities are only used in that zone.
So, they want you to derive those zone abilities from playing in that zone rather than from general HoT XP.
Also, the way they are set up you can buy them in any order, which is a little nicer than a mastry track.
