Does anyone else feel that the effects during this fight are a bit too over the top?

Spectral Flames can spawn right near you while you’re in the middle of combat or a stun. The Flame’s explosion trigger also seems to be larger than the Flame itself, making the timing of dodges unintuitive. Fear Wards have put me into 10s or longer fear chains even when I’m no longer near any of the AoE telegraphs on the ground, or worse fear me into an area where I have no ability to get away until something else does (like a Flame spawning on me). The chill attack seems to hit me no matter where I’m at even though the animation makes it seem to only affect a cone in the center of the room in front of the statue…

Having completed this chapter 3 times already and running it on a squishier character than I have previously, it’s incredibly frustrating to see my efforts in the fight constantly invalidated due to the combination of effects preventing me from acting appropriately. I really enjoy this game but moments like this prevent me from having fun with my characters that I’ve dedicated time and effort to.

It’s strongly depending on your class. It’s a piece of cake for heavy professions.

I’d generally recommend to use condi removal (but always have some ready in case you get feared), stay near the statue and attack it sideways, dodge in the flame direction when they’re near you. Don’t forget about the healer, use cripple, chill etc whenever possible.

I actually found this far easier on zerk elementalist than almost any other class (guard, mesmer, ranger). With massive AE damage (including frost bow) you only go through a couple of healers spawning entire fight as your AEs both charge the sword and kill off the statue. Shorter fight – less chance of being blown up by the flame or feared. For utilites I had arcane shield (stunbreak + in case you know that blue ball will get you for some reason), 25% movement speed (you CAN kite the kitten balls of flame) and frost bow for massive AE.

Still I fully agree that flames exploding you with no warning just by spawning on top of you was very annoying.

Same here, squishy zerk ele and had no issues with it, just stay at the entrance, kill the ads quickly then pew pew the statue from max distance. Tbh I think it’s the most easiest ‘boss’ fight from all the episodes.
