I’ve already cited the Prosperity Valley crystal race…
Silverwastes – people parking themselves outside one of the camps…Plains of Ashford – skale, Separatists and ghosts are all popular farmer targets, and all necessary for heart completion in their respective areas…Iron Marches – ghost farm in the southeast…

Interesting, I play GW2 quite a lot every day and go to all zones for dailies and yet I have not noted this huge issue of multiple AFKers at each area (1 person wouldn’t really make a difference) causing issues with the events. You must always play at a different time than I do or maybe you are in EU or something.

Anyway, I detest cheaters so I am not defending AFKers as I have said. I just have literally never seen what you are describing.

The idea of AFK/botting runs counter to what I think playing a game is about, but I don’t really see how it negatively affects how I enjoy the game.

The only thing I can think of is that they might skew the economy. Is that why others are so bothered about it?

the only time I would ever be frustrated with afk farmers on any map was if they where on maps like tangled depths and dragons stand that have big map wide metas and seeing as anet doesn't seem to want to add any more of those that issue won't pop up

Odd, the Devs have specifically stated that defeated players don’t scale up events. So, I’m not sure how dead AFK farmers are causing events to scale up.

It may be true that Anet has made this statement, I couldn’t find a reference. In regards to scaling the Wiki references ONLY a player report which used a (“illegal”) 3rd party tool.

I also have seen a lot of comments like this:

“If a player enters an event and upscales it, if they go down and get defeated, they will still count for a long time, and effects from their upscaling, like additional enemies spawned will not go away.”

There is also the issue that because everyone can rez, GW2 PvE players often have it ingrained that if someone is down or dead they should stop and rez them. So dead players also “interfere” because people feel compelled to stop what they’re doing and rez them. I have been waiting near the start of an event where I can see someone AFK (not necessarily a farmer) in a bad place who gets downed / killed over and over. And each time someone happens by and rezzes them.

The developers want players to play, to stick around for a long time and keep playing. That’s not encouraging farming, it’s encouraging longevity. Refusing to acknowledge that doesn’t make it untrue, or wrong, any more than refusing to acknowledge gravity allows you to fly.

Other MMOs like FFXIV and WoW have mastered the grind, they know how to make it enjoyable, coincidentally. Those two subscription based MMOs have a much larger playerbase than GW2, are far more successful and have better, more competent developers.

They seldom take action against farming spots or player behaviour because why would they? Those players are paying to play however they want.

In Arenanet’s business model, anything that makes the grind just a bit easier is the devil because then players won’t be tempted to buy gems. This is the same reason they decided to kitten the trade system and make it practically useless (players making their own deal is bad)

This rant is moot because the farm didn’t really affect anyone or anything. The market prices remained practically unchanged and people were still able to complete the events at Doric.
