I mean really, I understand that the world is inhabited by Elder Dragons, and stuff happens in a chaotic world, but lets recap shall we. First we had Kessex decimated by the Tower of Nightmares, then Lions Arch by Scarlet, and now the Zephyr Sanctum, presumably by a minion or minions of Mordremoth….

Why couldn’t Season 2 launch with us discovering a new zone already destroyed or corrupted by Mordremoth, why must you destroy the most beautiful zones?

How do you know Season 2 won’t start like that?
Furthermore, if you understand that everything’s gone to hell, then you why do you ask such a question?

Because they do a terrible job reflecting this. Things happen, but it is almost as if it never happened. Kessex goes to hell, but everyone on the eastern side is like “what? no….everything is sunny!”

Lion’s Arch explodes and other areas are like “naw, everything is great!”

The problems with destroying (nice looking zones) is there is not enough linking it to the rest of the world. It just happens, and the rest of world stays exactly the same, as if the place doesn’t even exist to them.

That’s kinda how the real world is. I highly doubt most Americans know what’s going on in India, and it wouldn’t surprise me if people in South Africa doesn’t care much for Chile’s every day life.

@webtoehobbit: I can’t answer that lol, I’m not Anet. My guess would be that Rata Sum has multiple forces to offer resistance. And anyway, how do we know if anyone actually attacked them, as opposed to an accident? Not that I agree.
But nonetheless. Most evil organizations (terrorists for the smart ones) would attack the peaceful village that had no ties, that had absolutely nothing to do with anything, as a way to provoke their enemies.

I’ll set it up. Please note that this all hypothetical.
Inquest attacks Zephyrites, angers Pact/Lion’s Arch/yadda. Pact/LA/yad move to crash say, assumed to be Maguuma. Inquest unleashes Mordremoth, all hell breaks loose, Inquest win for a little.

Also, While it is true there is an Elder Dragon we have to go see, there are other story threads that need to continue as well that were started in season 1 and before, such as the Aetherblades, and all of Scarlet’s other armies?

First of all, the Sanctum does get destroyed, did you watch the trailer? Second, it is one of the most beautiful zones in the game. Third, why does it have to get destroyed? If we’re going to Maguuma, why did they go way out of their way to the Sanctum to destroy it…. Someone at ANet has a love of explosions almost as much as Michael Bay does.

You seem to be confused. What gets destroyed in the trailer is indeed the Zephyr Sanctum. However, the Sanctum is not the zone that you’re referring to. That’s the Labyrinthine Cliffs, which we were already going to lose access to at the end of the month.

In the trailer, the Sanctum was flying through the sky, no longer docked at the Cliffs. Presumably flying west, and then crashing in Maguuma. There is no indication that the Cliffs themselves (which I agree is one of the most beautiful zones) are going to get destroyed. But we are losing access to the Cliffs regardless, which a lot of us have already protested.

Lion’s Arch is the center of Trade in Tyria though. It getting destroyed would be the equivalent of the World Trade Center getting his by terrorists in 2001. Everyone in the world would hear about it. Not everyone in the world cared, but everyone heard about it at the time.

I don’t think mordremoth is behind the bombing on Zephyr Sanctum, that doesn’t seem an Elder Dragon’s style.

Gotta agree with the OP.

To be honest, as beatiful as Guild Wars 2 is, Arenanet is doing a poor job to make me feel as a hero after defeating zhaitan.
Saving Tyria…pfff.
Whenever there is something to do in the living story that ain’t some kind of festival, all I can do is to shoo the evil away, after it has done its part of mayhem and destruction.
More like a fantasy-janitor that gets rid of the termites after the roof broke in.
There is no glorious victory, more a sour taste of looking at the ruins without being able to help.
It would have been great to help rebuilding lions arch. Instead of making a money-run, let the players farm wood! Secondary drops for each tier of wood that could be dropped off at construction sites in Lions Arch. Same with ore.
Quests to search for the asuran girl who by chance got washed up at the shores of Karka-land or going into a cave in lions arch to find the parents of that child who scribbled that it can’t find them.
Something to make things better, instead just stopping the destruction.

With the new megaserver they could have implemented secondary maps of orr for characters who finished the main-story, where some signs of green start to grow at secluded places as the land starts to cleanse itself.

And now Anet decided to bomb the zephyrites out of the sky.
Can’t we just find an old temple with dragon-intel that the pact needs to protect from dragon-minions, therefore calling for the players to help building a massive fortress?

Does every new living story content now start with devastating explosions?!
Since when is Michael Bay part of the Anet-team???

No hard feelings though.

Hail UberQuaggan!

Well, as the Joker told Batman all those years ago, “You can’t make an omelet without breaking a few eggs.”

Same thing could be said about LA.

To be fair, that’s because it’s been 13 years since 9/11. Immediately after it happened, it was all we could talk about.

True. But the idea is the same. Furthermore, restoration efforts didn’t begin a few months to half a year after the attack, as it is with the case of LA.

i actually like changes like this to the zones, and i’d especially like if it happened to divinity’s reach. it just seems out of place more than any other city with all the events that are happening in the game. hell even the “slums” of the city are all happy go lucky and all of the buildings are in pristine condition and so on. i ain’t expecting dark fantasy here but divinity’s just looks like there’s a carneval going on 24/7.

Not normally, but if they are harbouring the offspring of a rebel dragon champion, you could see why he might feel threatened by them.

Dragons don’t often employ subterfuge, but there are precedents – the attack on Queen Jenna for example.

wouldnt be much of a living story if zones didnt change at all. as pretty as the zones are, they get boring being the same all the time

as for the upcoming zones: dragon corruption IS happening and it does make sense with whats happening. dragons corrupt, end of story: dont see anyone complaining about splintered coast after teq won (cept the complaining about why they lost) or the areas corrupted by jormag.

Sorry, I misunderstood your previous post and your words threw me off. Its not that no one knows what’s going on, its just that they don’t care.

90% of the world doesn’t care about America getting attacked (and I apologize for bringing that up if it offended anyone[but its true]), just as 90% of Tyria probably doesn’t care that a city of ‘ex-pirates’ just got wiped from the face of the planet.

None taken, I feel the same way.
But people do care. There wouldn’t have been TONS of people wishing LA wishing it was rebuilt, or an entire update focused on helping LA. Sure, players may not care, but the story wasn’t written two months ago, either.

Hope you didn’t delete it now.
