Grind Grind...
So… just don’t do it?
That’s what I’d usually say, but these pieces are – to my knowledge – the only source of certain ascended trinket stats outside of the raids.
Its not hard, its not challenging … just boring and repetitive!

Ive come to the conclusion that if i want anything nice in the game, ive got to turn my mind to rot, and repeat the same thing over and over and over again… ANET its bloody boring!!
- New ascended back piece – 5000 unbound magic and 500 blood rubies
Just means repeat killing bosses over and over for a few days/ weeks… This is not very diverse, very grindy, and simply boring!
While I personally don’t mind it much (been there done that in many mmo’s), I do agree and am mostly amused by the fact that Anet stated they wouldn’t go down this path of grinding. I did however play Vanguard Saga of Heroes, and the “grind” in this game is nothing compared to that!
….It’s only optional content you don’t need to take part in. It’s not the same as in most MMOs where the gear grind is mandatory in order to have fun.
Honestly, because the content is new, I haven’t been bored doing it (not referring to repeating the story on multiple alts) and have collected enough unbound magic to unlock all the gliding skills without much boredom or it feeling like a grind.
I don’t understand these threads. Ok what if they made this the Living Story reward instead. Then once you got it you would be complaining that there is nothing to do in the new content and once you’ve done the events there is nothing going on. Its lose/lose. Anet doesn’t want stuff to feel grindy but that does not mean grind won’t exist. Literally every mmo in existence has grind because it is not possible to pump out content fast enough for people.
And they do give you options to farm the rubies : mine nodes, do events, do dailies, do wvw reward track, do pvp reward track. Just because you want something quickly does not mean the method of obtaining it has become a grind.

We’ve survived for months without these prefixes. What’s the rush to get them in 3-4 days? I’ll do some story, some gliding (which is, for me, a fun way of getting the unbound), and whatever events I run across. I won’t be first (or even 1,000th) to get these items and that’s just fine with me.
So to rephrase the OP’s point:
To obtain nice things quickly, you have to grind in this game… and pretty much any other.

Game would’ve died years ago if people did that.

No not really, because believe it or not, some people play the game cause it’s fun, not because they are trying to get a specific item. The best part is that those people know that eventually they get nice stuff just from playing. Awesome right?
Here’s the other thing that’s been bugging me: do you really need ascended gear, unless you’re diving into fractals? As I recall, the gear tiers before fractals were normal, fine, masterwork, rare and exotic. Is ascended really that much higher than exotic? I’m pretty sure you can run around the jungle just fine in rare gear, which is pretty easy to come by these days. No one is forcing you to get ascended equipment; it is a completely optional level with slightly better stats that is a reward for dedicated action. If ascended gear were handed out like candy, it wouldn’t be worth anything. Please keep that in mind before complaining about grinding for gear.

I think we have different ideas of grind. To me, logging in and doing half an hour of repetitive, boring events every day for a month is just as grindy as marathoning those events over a weekend. In either case it feels like a useless slog.
I do think that there’s good fun in collecting the magic, but the rubies offer you the choice of zerg events, mindless gathering or stagnant dailies.

Right, but for people who are diving into fractals it is a problem.
What do you consider ascended gear to be worth, by the way?
What do you consider ascended gear to be worth, by the way?
To me, ascended gear is just a bonus. At least for now. But hasn’t there already been a full suite of ascended gear released through other means? I doubt that the new stat combinations are that much more powerful than the other ascended gear already released.

Viper’s is a significant upgrade over Sinister for the builds I’d like to run.

I would like to pop in and say that viper does not make sinister completely irrelevant. It is only your choice because the game is not based on vertical progression.

In the same way Sinister didn’t make what came before it completely irrelevant. But in a high level fractal I’d prefer to be doing the best that I can, and I’m sure the people I’m doing it with would agree.

Fair point but it is not like everybody needed to reach high-level fractal just like you are not required to complete raids.

You’re right on that front. And so it really doesn’t make much sense that they’d put gear which is only really useful to high level fractal players into a repetitive open world grind. It’s bizarre that the reward for this kind of content is only really useful for another sort, and requires that you invest a lot of time into the mode (open world PvE) that you as a high-level fractal player presumably don’t care much about. Of course it’s all optional, but it’s also not a very logical way of structuring things.
then just play wow where you have to pay to grind. gw2 has a lot of stuff to do I love it so far
Well Anet seems set on fractals so of course they put in stuff like this.
Grinding for asc stuff that u could only get through raids b4…. I got most of my gear from raids and it took months to get all the stuff i wanted (mostly viper/commander trinkets).
Grinding it out for a few days aint that bad if u ask me, unless u are one of those people that just complain for the sake of complaining.
So… just don’t do it?

Oh I agree with you, I was just saying is all, I really don’t care about getting things quickly, I’ll get them.in my own time, I’m in no rush for anything.

Rest in Peace Vanguard..
I am not big into the grindy aspect of mmo’s in fact I much rather do with out it, but its in most mmo’s in some form or another. But I just would like to see something along the lines of using all this bloodstone dust to make them in some way. I mean that bust just collects like crazy. You cant see it, its only used for crafting, and its account bound, so why not make it where you can use it for crafting blood rubies? They are account bound anyway right?
It is what I hate most about GW2 and why I take breaks from it for months at a time and only come back for huge content updates.
