Hey everyone, here is a guide to the Mawdrey Ascended backpiece which is the Ascended version of the Mysterious Vine/Cultivated Vine backpiece you may have seen previously.

To craft Mawdrey, you must craft Mysterious Vine and Cultivated Vine backpieces in sequence and cannot skip any steps. Because of the bug which Arenanet have yet to fix, players wishing to craft this Ascended backpiece currently have to redo Dragon’s Reach EP1 on their alts and regain all the items to craft Mysterious Vine again. This method is only feasible for players who are either rich or impatient. Rest can wait for the patch to begin their crafting.

Mysterious Vine (Cultivated Seed) –> Cultivated Vine (Pet Seed) –> Mawdrey & Mawdrey II

Mawdrey II is a “plant” that feed on Bloodstone Dust. It can only eat 200 Bloodstone Dust per day and give you a Gift for each 50 Bloodstone Dust it eats. The gifts are mostly greens, some gathered plants, and general junk. You will receive Mawdrey II for free when you crafted have crafted Mawdrey

What do you mean by “not skip any steps”? What steps are skippable?

I read somewhere that if you hadn’t yet made the mysterious vine, you should be able to just start it now without hitting this bug. Can you or can anyone else confirm?

I’m still slowly collecting foxfire myself, so I still have the original seed in my mailbox, but I’m afraid to put it into inventory!

Bascially Arenanet’s bug skipped everyone to the Ascended step by converting your Cultivated Seed to Pet Seed. However, because the process does not allow any skip,s most players are bugged and cannot craft the Ascended version or the 2nd exotic step. The only exception are those who made the Mysterious Vine after yesterday’s patch or those who went and remade theirs to get the Cultivated Seed back

Yes you are perfectly fine now. Everyone that have their ascended backpiece now had to remake theirs after the patch.

I love this backpiece. It pulls aspects from all parts of the game, combines them with a scavenger hunt and a gold sink and makes a great looking unique skin.

Anet needs to do more things like this! I hope precursor crafting is similar.

Nothing like being forced into fracking fractals to dampen the enthusiasm to make this. /sigh

Well, I’ve never done fractals, but I don’t mind giving it a try. How hard to acquire are the fractal relics? — I know you have to complete the boss to get one, but how hard is it compared to any of the regular PVE dungeons, and is it time gated to once a day?

I was hoping the final product would be something more visually impressive. It looks like ginger root. The ascended version is just a ginger root that glows.

Especially given what its name references. Something that looked more like a thresher, or a vine seed plant would have been appropriate.

Makes me kind-of glad I’m just selling plant food instead of using it myself.

Fotm, you have to have personal level 10 or higher before you start getting pristine fractal relics, 1 per day per level range and its account bound as well I think. Use to be character bound.

Unless you happen to like the appearance of this, or you just gotta have it for bragging rights, it’s an awful lot of money for the piece of gear with least impact on your stats. Given that the masterwork berserker’s back item from the personal story was free and all. And you still have to mess around to swap it between characters.

I bought the recipe on day 2 and have been crafting and selling it every day since. It’s more profitable than selling the clusters directly. I quit selling clusters and have enough hoarded to make the ascended version.

I have almost everything else I need to put it all together (short 2 fractal relics), it’s just that selling the plant foods every day is a super easy way to get gold. I’ll take the gold now, and make the backpiece later.
