This thread is mainly because an idea popped in my heads just now about how we could add some more complexity to the Living Story, season , which is currently on break. So far, while Tyria itself is a complex world, the gaming experience of the players almost only offers the “Good guys versus Bad Guys” and it’s a shame, if you ask me. And now is the perfect time to change it.

Why ? Because Mordremoth is awakened and he did two very important things : he crossed over the territory of another Elder Dragon and attacked the Pale Tree. Indeed, Mordremoth attacked the lands East to the Shiverpeaks, an action which happened at a time of renewed aggression from Jormag servants, something which could be more than a coincidence, and he sent what is possibly his strongest Champion to attack the Mother of all Sylvaris.

But, how does it add moral complexity to the player experience, may you ask ? Well, the answer is that those actions enable the possibility to fight alongside two evil factions when we’ll try to take the Sixth Dragon down : the Sons of Svanir and the Nightmare Court. Yes, two groups that we are used to fight, but who have lore-friendly ways to fight Mordremoth with us.

The Sons are fanatics of Jormag, and seeing another Dragon invading its territory could probably stir them into frenzy. And they are Norns, which means that some of them can have, if not friendly terms, at least peaceful relations with Knut and the Wolfborn (after all, there is Sons in Hoelbrak with whom you can talk a little) and could come to hunt down Mordremoth and his minions with us, which would allow for some interesting storylines.

As for the Nightmare Court, it stated goal was (possibly still is) to “corrupt” the Pale Tree, so having Moredremoth attacking it could also be seen as a threat for them. Furthermore, they are also supposed to hate the Dragons and so, having some of them join us could also be interesting.

What do you think about it ?

As proto-minions, I can see the Svanir ‘joining’ in the fight, because Mordremoth is encroaching on Jormag’s territory. I figure it more likely it’ll be a situation where “The enemy of my enemy sure as hell isn’t my friend,” and they’ll go it alone.

The NC I think would be happy to have the Pale Tree dead by any means and might surreptitiously help Mordremoth… at least until the dragon starts to dominate them, which is effectively why they were fighting the Pale Tree in the first place.

Rox and Braham should just go and get a room. Especially if i no longer have to bear with Rox’ superstition or Braham’s mommy issues then. And the two ladies can get a room too, and school started for Taimi.

That being said, none of the extremist groups can be trusted, not even as temporary allies. My enemies’ enemy is my friend, that most likely won’t work with any of them i fear. They aren’t “noble enemies”, and one would have to constantly watch one’s back when they are around. One would spend more time trying to prevent fights of your own people with them than fighting Dragon minions. So i’d rather avoid having to deal with any of the extremist groups. Their demands would be too high, if they would even listen.

But approaching them may not be necessary. Should the forces of one Dragon enter territory controlled by minions of another we will most likely see them fight against each other. So far we didn’t see that happen, but it may very well happen in the future.

You wanna go over as an envoy to the Nightmare Court and ask for their help? Didn’t think so.

I think it’s more likely to see the Nightmare Court become minions of Mordremoth by the way. If they aren’t already.

NC fight dragon minions on their own, but they’re still evil kittens just to be evil.
