I haven’t been able to jump in game, but how are the new events compared to previous releases?

Are they just the same old events on a timer and player involvement really doesn’t matter, or are they a back and forth struggle between opposing forces where player and NPC action affect the sate of the world? Are they on a predictable looping pattern or are there multiple avenues to change the fate of the zone?

Well there isn’t multiple avenues, but there is definitely a war. If you hold the forts long enough you get the boss battles, if you don’t then no bosses until you do. It is on a pattern of about an hour, but it is more like a constant battle then a set of repeating events. I would say this is one of the best implementations of new events to date.

The new events need a lot more of player involvement. The mordrem attack all the forts, and they can take them over. As players we have to work with the NPC’s to keep control of them. The NPC’s cant hold the fort by themselves, and will be easily taken over without intervention by players.
I dont know the algorithms of the fort events, but i think they are relatively regular.

It’s the same sequence of events and gets old eventually. At the beginning you clear our the forts of mordrem. You then alternate between defend and collecting rubble events for the majority of the time. There’s also the yaks you need to protect for supply. If done correctly, which is incredibly easy to do, you get The Breach event where each fort defeats a boss (one of them has two). After you win or fail, you lose claim to the forts and have to wait 5 minutes to start over again.

The dry top events were slightly better as there were more variety in the events. In here, they’re all the same.

After you win or fail, you use claim to the forts and have to wait 5 minutes to start over again.

So, no matter what you do same result?

More variety, but I hated how they were all essentially timed events with the vast majority being kill the thing before time runs out.

The defend event and collect rubble event are both timed. You don’t see the timer for the collect event but you have a predetermined amount of time before the defend event kicks back up which causes it to fail. The Breach event where you have to kill the bosses is also timed. You have five minutes to kill all of them.

You get maybe slightly more loot if you beat all of the bosses within 5 minutes. Not really worth the effort to be honest. Other than that, there’s no difference between winning or losing.

I don’t think that is the sort of timing he talks about. But rather the fact that the sandstorm always happened after X minutes and always ended after X minutes.

In the new map the events are a bit more random but most of the events does have a timer (they would more or less be impossible/too easy without one after all.

Generally, the type of timing that disappoints me is events set to timers that will cause them to end after a certain amount of time. Rather than having some tangible objective, you are instead fighting a clock. Running them on a schedule is also disappointing as it provides a less “organic” experience for the world. Instead of players and NPCs undertaking activities that generate the conditions for subsequent events to occur, the world operates on a schedule. The events at release were more like the latter, and the events as of late have been stale and uninspiring for me.

From all the posts in favor I thought I would give this LS thing a try again~
The personal story was good; the library, story, and personal instance (crystal cave sand thing) was fun and ate up less than one hour. From what I have read it’s nostalgic heavy for GW1 players.

The zone is a waste of resources better spent elsewhere in my opinion, just another soon to be karka zone w/WvW elements minus the PvP. It wouldn’t surprise me if Karka sees more action just because of Queen Karka than this new zone in a few months or weeks. Going to take a pass on the zone farming & achievements.

Everything is pretty much based on a timer with a couple exceptions.

The yak escort can be sped up by giving it speed boosts. The progress bar which leads to the The Breach event is based on the number of events you complete. That’s the only real variability on the map.

The cycle between defend and collect rubble events are timer based. The defend event can fail when the NPC dies and isn’t revived before another timer runs out. This causes you to lose control of the fort, including all progress, and have to reclaim it. There may be a timer between when you fail and when you can reclaim but I haven’t paid much attention to it.
