How would you rebuild Lion's Arch?
If there’s some sorta surplus of the donations, I’d like to change the Lionguard’s outfits to something along a blackguard’s attire.
Section by section, a pair of contractors (dredge and asura) would utilize harsh metals and sleek design to rebuild the city. But originally, I thought it would be neat to have players “vote” for contractors, simultaneously, for sections of the city, but not as if a piece of another city was placed there. Just designs and construction influenced by region, but a representation of Lion’s Arch.
Considering the city is being rebuilt with materials provided by Kryta and the Pact rather than whatever they have to hand I think less emphasis on the ‘salvaged ship wrecks’ theme would make sense.
I also agree with the OP that it would be nice to see more influences from the different races, although I’d prefer to see it intermingled than divided into districts.
But I also think with the citizens having moved back in relatively quickly and then the slow process of actually rebuilding it shouldn’t be too neat or organised. It should look like a city where everyone just got on and rebuilt their bit, rather than a single authority overseeing a coordinated plan. This would also make it more fun to explore in future, more chance of interesting structures and hidden things.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
I’d rebuild the entire city out of Bloodstone Bricks, and use their latent magic to power a defensive shield that could be instantly raised the moment the city comes under attack.
Can’t wait to see a new skritt bazaar/settlement at Hooligan’s route, built from scraps of breachmaker; an elaborate memorial hall at White Crane Terrace to remember the dead; a more decorative portal hub at Eastern Ward instead of current makeshift look; the new Black Lion’s company expanded to take up practically whole of Trader’s forum, while the former Trader’s forum residents moved to Western ward; Consortium now setup its new office at Farshore Ward, probably owns the rebuilt moa racing circuit as well
If we’re going with the district idea, I’d look into seeing if I can add a Canthan district, like the one DR had in beta (except less accidentally offensive of course).
what i would do?
change port location
the water areas would be sucked dry and a huge defensive dam is build, not just a wall but a part of the city is build on top of it with a whole shipyard attached to it so it looks like a part of the city.
old LA in better glory
with all the water gone, the old part of lions arch is now the center with a new and improved fountain.
asura portals are now around the main square making it a central area of any player to go, even the PvP portals are closer to keep everything in one area.
new building everywhere with streets and alleys to make the city even more grand, every shop has their own actual shop to go in (as in, an actual building) and the bank has it’s own central building.
a change of name
in my mind i would change the entire city in an actual city, filled with everything a true central city has to look like.
with that, i would call it “lions arch city” (or lion’s city, which one is better) representing the power and strength of the alliance of the five races.
the fountain will even have a statue with all five races in it, making a central statement.
the style of LA
this city will no longer look like a fort with some houses made of stranded ships, this city will look like a street filled city with the tech of all 5 races.
there will be guards with guns made by charr and enhanced scopes produced by the asura, sylvari will have farms to grow food for everyone while humans produces them ready to buy.
it will be a city like never before shown, a city that will make a big step forward in to the next generation of civilization.
ps. i could try and make this on a map editor but it’s gonna take a while, ill try nonetheless.

Yes please do, I would love to see your mapped design!
I can’t even work out whose ideas I like best. They all sound really exciting to me. I think everyone has more or less the same basic views though: that all races should be represented, and all races’ skills should be utilised in appropriate ways; and that ‘New Lion’s Arch’ should be full of interesting and idiosyncratic secrets and surprises for the curious – and maybe adventurous – visitor
I would like to add to that something I feel is missing from DR and the other cities – activities that we can do for fun while we’re hanging out there. In fact LA was better for that than the other cities, what with jps, moa racing, etc, but more could done in that direction I think. After all, the fact that it had the activities it did/does is one of the big reasons why we all liked to hang out there. Anet should learn something from that, maybe
well, Hoelbrak does have Keg Toss… kind of. I know it’s a different instance, and the demo matches played there don’t really count, but it’s something. I’m also waiting on the other mini-events that were promised for a while. The other day, I ran into an NPC in Divinity’s Reach promoting the archery range, but Minister Caudecus (gods, I hate that man) has booked a party there since 1325 AU! The Polymock arena in Rata Sum still doesn’t have a working gate to it. And I still have no idea what activity the Grove would provide to people…
i did some screwing around with the farcry 3 map editor and started with the dam, this is between the lighthouse and the mountain next to the tengu wall.
keep in mind that all the details are from farcry 3, i can not add my own stuff so take it with a grain of salt.
the guns are meant to be made by both charr and asura, they keep the bay save and are made for both sea and air defense.
it’s extremely alpha so no, this is not final for a second, i just wanted to show a little bit of progress.
I’d build a replica of the one from GW1. And I’d move oceans and mountains to do so! :P
I want new buildings made from scarlets wreckages and some input from each of the playable races
I’d rebuild it using the “Bender Bender Rodriguez” principle, but then they’d have to reclassify the T rating.
1. Integrate Breachmaker Debris into new buildings.
2. Retain its current “multiple cores” arrangement, since it encourage players to disperse in the city and reduces lag.
3. While this incarnation of Lion’s Arch was built with defending against Risen ships in mind, these defences proved useless against an aerial attack. To this end, I would make a point of adding charr-made anti-air turrets and asura-made shield generators to strategic locations.
I’d make it look like Cantha and I and 90% of the Canthan thread will be happy.
seeing how there is a viable replacement for the lions statue {the holographic projector from dragons bash} yet the people of tyria are too lazy to even brush the broken one aside.. i find myself disinterested in lions arch
make it like the original concept art with airships in the sky that perhaps we could jump across (+ this could also be the new location for the airship you us when u get the airship pass ticket thing)
while i do also like the idea of adding scarlets parts to the city… from a lore perspective it wouldnt seem right using parts of a ship that killed hundreds of people in the attack on the very city you are rebuilding… i dunno just seems a bit off
if i was a person living in this world id want all of scarlets kitten gone
she ruined my life and potentially killed my family
i wouldnt want anything to do with her ever again
