I don't like Queen Jennah's FarmVille.
There’s a certain zen that comes with kinda mindlessly watching things fall apart from your autoattacks. It might not be “fun” in the strictest sense, but some people find a quality to it that at least puts them in a good mood and, honestly, if it does, more power to them.
I do think that the Queen’s Jubilee is definitely the worst Living Story thing that’s come out and I’ve generally enjoyed most of the ones that have come out. (I missed the last bit of F&F and the entirety of Secret of Southsun). What’s ridiculous is the sheer profitability of this patch’s farming.. If it was just marginally more efficient it’d be one thing.
Oh well, they experimented with it, they’ll decide whether or not it accomplished what they wanted and here’s hoping the Queen’s Speech makes up for it.
even tho this patch gave us good things like the wallet, IMO it did more harm than good. No one goes to the pavillion anymore, i dont see as much people in wvw in fact i just logged out because the game was deserted. Everyone is just farming champions, even tho i love the loot and i need a lot of it to get profit for my legendary but doing it is boring and is affecting other areas of the game. I think there are other ways to give players t6 mats and other things without recurring to this zerg champ farming thing.
so yea i think overall is the worse patch so far or at least one of them.

I’m enjoying it. I like the fact that there is a separate place to farm now … so when I run around the open world to explore nobody needs to shout at me if I accidentally break a farming chain, and I know that if I just want to chill out for a bit and grab some gold, I have a place to go where I know exactly what to expect.
I’m not a farmer, and initially thought I would hate this update, but I am having a lot of fun in the pavilion. And I am never just auto-attacking. I use all my skills, and I’m constantly tagging other enemies during a boss fight, finishing them, returning to the boss, breaking off and grabbing the loot chest etc … it’s not interesting gameplay, no, but farming stuff never is.
I say people are going to farm something, no matter what you do. Might as well give them a place to do it where that’s all you do, and events pop up and everyone knows what they’re doing and what they’re expected to do. You don’t end up doing events out of sequence (you can try but you usually get murdered) and you have a convenient place afterwards to go and sell your stuff etc.
The people I’ve seen running around the Pavilion have all been really friendly and helpful towards each other – which I definitely cannot say of any of the farming spots in the open world.
But more so now than it was. I’m incredibly skeptical to the fact that a few people find this sort of gameplay fun. I would like to hear their reasoning. It boggles my mind.
“I am incapable of imagining people having fun doing something that I don’t think is fun.”
I think the pabillion and the gauntlet are far too profitable, but the damage is done already. Some people has been gambit-farming since day one, and have probably made more than 1000g.
Also, I love farming when there’s a lot of people and lot of enemies, specially Cursed Shore events like Plinx and Rakkan (which I loved because I killed stuff nonstop and I even died sometimes).
However, they get lame once there’s far too much people, so I’m not enjoying the pabillion too much. Wish they had controlled population a bit more by forcing more overflows to have less people, but well.
Most champion farms got lame, too, since there’s so much people you don’t see anything and you get no rewards.
The key to balance is every activity should reward more or less the same, so you don’t feel punished for not playing X in an Y way.

I did it for a few hours got the achievements while doing nothing then stopped going there. I like the arena it’s fun but too many people are farming it so I’m just waiting for the 20th.
more deadly than any that walks this earth. Put aside the Ranger.
Become who you were born to be. I give hope to men. I keep none for myself.
Farming or any kind of repetitive gameplay can (if you’re in the mood for it) induce a pleasant trance-like state. That, and the loot, are good enough reasons for most people to do it. It’s on the opposite side of the spectrum of gaming from “I want to be challenged”, but it’s a valid gaming mode, nonetheless.
I don’t think it’s the funnest part of the game, that’s for certain, but this event thus far has been the easiest method to level characters and farm extensive gold. Giving me the ability to upgrade characters later on down the road.
They put it in, I say farm the hell out of it.
i have mixed views on the arena. on one hand, it does feel as if all i am doing is button spamming in combat. because of that, i find running around reviving downed allies to be much more fun and challenging.
that said, the arena is a very quick and easy way to level characters, and given that levels in this game are pretty much arbitrary constructs that are annoying to me, the faster i can get to 80, the better.
I love it with my Necro because I have a good PvE use for Epidemic now…drop it on a legendary and see all the vets absolutely melt:)

Well, I wanted to play the game, because ArenaNet promoted gameplay that supposedly didn’t have people repeatedly farming and grinding. ( The game has that even before the update). With this new pavilion, I think they went back on their philosophy a little bit.
I do realize the Pavillion is optional. I’m avoiding the place completely. I need to be participating in events that are engaging, such as the Shatterer or Tequatl. Even those events could be considered farmy. But they still engage me and give me have that heroic feeling. I think ArenaNet could benefit from going back to their roots by creating events that give us that feeling of heroism instead of the trance-like, loot-induced state that some of you have described.
When I first watched the intro cinematic I was thinking “oh this could be cool” Then I did a few of the champions “ok, these are…neat” I did some of the boss fights which I enjoyed, but found unapproachable due to not being over level 30. Unfortunately I must say I have to agree that this patch in particular is a low-point. Now there are champion zergs in queensdale (which are somehow much more fun than the champions for the jubilee), and just a general grindy feel to this patch that has left a bad taste in my mouth.
Quantity (of loot) has a quality of its own.
It’s not hard to understand. For example, I play the game to get loot and show off. Farming furthers that goal. Simple.
I’d be much happier of course of the farmed content is not boring. But it’s not necessary. I’ll farm boring stuff repeatedly if it gives me loot or gold I can use to buy stuff to show off.
As others have said, different people play for different reasons. I’ve gotten to a point where all I want to do is run around with other players and kill stuff. I’m tired to death or learning gimmicky fights and having to study to play a video game. Things like the current event and previously that island that bumped you up to 80 so you could run around and zerg with others is the only thing keeping me coming back.
It would be more fun if there was a larger variety of bosses, sure. But mindlessly farming legendaries with a zerg is still a nice way to blow off steam after a hard day.
I’m sorry if I’m having badwrong fun.
The reason being so is that those people grinding can afford things they want faster. Everything becomes “grindy” when you have to repeat it over x amount of times.
we are all farmers in one way or another stop denying it

exactly. i found that visiting 30 balloon towers felt more like farming and a grind than the arena does (not to mention not very fun). however, it was my choice to visit those towers so i can only blame myself.

Nah, given how little time I spend on activities considered to be “farming,” I’m more of a gardener.
In the end, I don’t think it’s the farming that actually miffs people. I think it’s the sheer lack of other things to do with the update. It seems to be tailor made for people with multiple level 80s who are going for a legendary (and you need at least 1 level 50+ just to get the balloon) with gaming rigs (it’s a slide-show in the pavilion for me and my graphics aren’t up to snuff for the arena). Basically, it alienates a lot of people.
IMO, the Bazaar was by far the best designed update as it had content for anyone who wanted to play to enjoy. People who like mini-games (Belcher’s Bluff, Southsun Survival), people who like racing mini-games (Sanctum Sprint), people who like team-based mini games (Aspect Arena), people who like high-level content (the candidate trials), people who like jumping puzzles (sky crystal gathering and the diving goggles), people who like doing events (the sheer number of events in there was crazy), etc.

I dunno, I guess I’m feeling a bit disillusioned. Do you guys remember that one video, I think you can find it on the main GW2 page. I think I was pretty stoked on not having to do conventional MMO stuff, but now I think I hate MMOs even more. I just need a break, I dunno. I’ll go play some single-player games and report back.
Gauntlet was awesome, wallet was awesome, pavilion anti Zerg bosses was awesome(need more like that). But god, I can’t understand how people can farm like this, I got all my pavilion achievements done (quickly thank god) while getting tickets for the gauntlet. But I can’t take any more of it… So… Not that awesome….

I think that the jubilee one of my favorites. the best mission so far, the previous stories are going to start coming together with the nemesis in this next one, the gauntlet is really challenging and not all casual, the new champion rewards is a much needed addition. It all makes a great update and it sounds like Anet likes it too

Endlessly farming certain enemies/zones/whatever is something I’ll never understand when it comes to MMO’s or other similar genres. I guess people have their reasons. I have participated in the Pavilion for sure and have occasionally killed a few champions and finished up the achievement, but now that I have done so I mostly avoid it.
They’ve given up on the unique game- and decided it’s time to become WoW and just have nothing but boring but lucrative grinds for everything.
My prediction- next we’ll have lengthy dungeon grinding in order to get vastly superior gear to everyone else, so we can kiss the last thing that was different- the lack of gear advantage- goodbye too.
I haven’t seen a champ in the Pav for a while now. That coupled with no loot worth claiming makes me wonder why players go there and farm. We have one chance left. If the release in China fails, Anet might start listening. Might..
