Instead of calling us "Boss"...
Well yes it litle annoying to call us boss but it will be annoying to call us Big <leter> it will be much beter if they calld us Comander like they did in personal story.
As an Asura player, I wouldn’t know if those Bookahs are actually making fun of my physical properties.
Would be neat if each of the NPCs had their own culturally relevant nickname for our characters. “Boss” sounds like something Marjory would say, Rox seems like the type who would use the “commander” title, Braham could say “champ”, while Taimi and Kasmeer… I can’t really imagine what they would use.
In a decade or two your character name will be spoken by non-player characters and players in Virtual Reality Massively Multiplayer Online games (.hack / Sword Art Online / Log Horizon reference).
Internet culture suggests this will send the wrong (or perhaps the right for some people) message for anybody whose name starts with a D.
I’m not sure the “Big P” would work out so well either.
I believe the reason they use a specific name is so the voice actors can actually say it and it fits smoothly into any sentence. Personally, I feel “Boss” is a lot more descriptive in how they feel about the PC than a party nickname would be.
At least Big D and Big P are basically compliments.
I won’t exactly find it endearing if NPCs started calling me ‘Big V’.

Even though it would be easier to voice act “Big [first letter]” it would require 26 files for every dialogue that refers to you.
Also, the costume of call others “Big [letter]” I see only in the US, in other cultures that doesn’t make much sense or just isn’t used at all.
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
I think “Boss” is fine. It makes it easy for the writers and voice actors. If you start trying to use specifics, it will cause more problems and cost the company more in voice acting and I would think programming as well.

Must I remind you that word “cop” has a history behind it, which is non-existant in Tyria, yet these so-called writers made a line for Kasmeer or Marjory (can’t quite remember who said it) that sounds like “let’s play good cop/bad cop”.
Why do you mind “Big [first letter]”, but give no kittens about bigger lore-unfriendly mistakes these so-called writers make?
And if they think that it’s okay to use word “cop” where such thing is non-existant, they will have no problem calling player character “Big [first letter]”.
“Big D” may also be a bit of a stretch for a family friendly game…
“Big *” just sounds a bit flippant, really.

it seems many like them better than the games they comment on.” -Horrorscope.7632
Braham is black

I’m not talking about in game culture, I mean real life culture.
Like “cop” is used in almost every culture on Earth (not Tyria) but “Big [letter]” isn’t used for sure in Portuguese, for example.
If the NPCs refer to us as “Boss”, any one can easy understand, but if they refer to me as Big B for example, it may not be very clear to some people why they are referring to you as that, since they could have never heard that before.

Kasmeer can call me Daddy…. Who’s ur Daddy….
Big D not sure even when it’s flattering . I wrote a post like that but just the written dialogue not the VoiceOver s my idea was calling us the title we own blazing light combat healer for example.
But I personal feel commander match since we where commander in the ls. Dragonslayer I like too
Or or we get the maschine from Steven Hawkins so all names will be pronounced

Kasmeer – ‘Sweetie’
Taimi – Probably ‘Boss’ too

dragonslayer is so cheesy i’d be able to cook pasta with the dialogue. please don’t ever refer to my character as that.
“let the XxX_Dr4gonSlay3r_XxX go in first”
Never liked the ‘’Big [Insert Random Letter]’’ nicknames. Sounds even worse than ’’Boss’’ really.
Oh please no “Big X”. That would be just horrible.
But commander would be great. After all we are commanders. It works great in personal story, and in mass effect!

Well… Big S…. B. S. No thank you.
I rather be called ‘Commander’, but like I said elsewhere, ‘Boss’ is better than ‘Hey You’.

Pier Darkmountain: No match for the Commander, you mean. To the Dragonslayer!

Too late.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
I like “Commander” better than “Boss”, but it would also feel out of place. None of the Biconics are members of the Pact, and are thus not under my command structure. To me, they are more like friends and fellow adventurers than subordinates.

eh, that was a celebration moment right after i actually slayed a dragon, so it fits. but if people started calling me dragonslayer as if it was my name, i’d pull their vocal chords out with my bare hands.
PS: just how the hell do you remember such a minor, specific ambient dialogue? do you just have the entire GW2 script hardwired in your brain? :P

I would like be called Dragonslayer or commander or boss but I want my PC say or show tat he don’t feel so or don’t like be called that. Like the one guy in game of thrones don’t like the title kingslayer .
Maybe give us the illusion of choice by answering certain questions .
Hey Dragonslayer how you think?
1. Yes I think bla bla bla
2. Don’t call me that… I think bla bla
Only if ANET introduces a Rapper Costume.
Instead of calling us “Boss” (which is fine, but gives no personality whatsoever), Living World cast could call us something like “Big [first letter of character’s name]”, or just [First letter].
Easy to make a voiceover, isn’t that resource-heavy, and gives more immersion, than that faceless “boss”.
Thoughts?
Have you considered what would happen if someone was playing in a language like say, Chinese? Big … uhhhh…
“Commander”…I like a sound of that If player character forms something like guild with Biconics, maybe Guild Master? :P
I want them to call me babe.
I want them to call me babe.
Braham: “Hey, babe! Come! Eir is here. We must speak with her!”
If you picture this scene with a male human/sylvari/asura, and then proceed to picture Eir’s face, Living Story quality increases by 200%.
I’d prefer my characters to be addressed as “commander.” It may or may not have something to do with 7/8 of my characters having Shepard as their last name—even my charr. Also, we’re supposed to be a commander of the Pact, right? It would make a bit more sense once the b-iconics find out we’re a Pact commander (since more were added in the two years since Zhaitan) though.
King Reza at the end of the Personal Story gives us the title “Champion of Orr”. I would really like it if they called us Champion or something that kind of connects the Personal Story to the Living Story because as of right now those seem to be stories from 2 different books.

“hey champz”
i can actually see braham saying it. oh god, now i gave them the idea.
Dude, don’t touch it. “Boss” is awesome as a name.
Boss is amazing. Seriously, I love it. It firmly establishes the player’s relationship with the biconics as “the guy in charge”, and does so in a semi-formal way.
It has flavor, can be used in a playful way, and maintains the player/biconics relationship. It also rolls off the tongue easily without sounding awkward.
I feel empowered by it, but I don’t feel like they’re just saying it as some stiff military rank or title.

Better yet, I’m a male Charr.
Perhaps the PC could be known by his racial nickname – Savant, Valiant, ???, Slayer or Centurion.
Or Warmaster/Lightbringer/Magister
I play a Charr. Considering Boss is a common contextual nickname among Charr culture, it doesn’t bother me that much.

I can’t think of any obvious words to use, but if they want to introduce a little bit of personalisation they could give different names for ferocity/charm/dignity. Those are supposed to affect how others see you, so it makes sense for them to refer to you differently based on your highest rated option (and the mechanic is already there). It’s only three options as well, so not too much dialogue to record.
Everytime they refer to me as “boss” i feel like a gangsta/crime lord and think they make fun of me :-(
Just call me Super Kami Guru
~Sincerely, Scissors
If they do implement a change on this; I really hope that the NPCs will call us by the title we got from personal story.
For example; a Norn character is called ’’Slayer’’, after killing Issormir in the Great Hunt. I would love to hear this detail about my player’s development from the NPCs…
And I do not think it would be weird; because Eir calls us that in all personal story chapters, it wont be the first time us hearing that.

I would love something like that. I really wish they would do more with that system.
Every time i hear boss i think im playing saints row and i should steal a car. But i like it nonetheless. Either that or call us “Glorious Leader!” LoL
