Issue With Ice Totem
I have the same problem. When asking them to let the event succeed they tell me to change maps. I tried for nearly an hour, but always came to the same map.
I don’t mind people farming events, I just want to continue my story. I wish anet would make it possible to continue with LS by destroying the totem without having to succeed the Coiled Watch events.
Get the word out:
Either zerg changes it ways or the champs will be removed. It always happens.
It’s pretty appalling that they didn’t have the foresight to remove champs from the event; it’s not like champ trains are a secret. Not only that, they were supposed to have fixed it back on the 9th according to an Anet reply over on reddit, but the problem persists.
Today, I accidentally stumbled upon a decent way to get it done.
Frostgorge gets many new megaserver instances during the Claw of Jormag event, creating a bunch of empty zones after it’s dead. After the dragon dies, wait until the prompt to move to a more populated instance comes up. Most people will probably leave to join a champ train or do other things. Choose “later” and you’ll have an hour to get it done.
With less people, no champs should spawn (and thus no train). With two players, it still seemed like a lot spawned in the events, but at worst there were a few veteran mobs. If you’re not such a great player, just stick to the outskirts and pull stuff away. I was on my thief with mostly berserker gear and I did fine even in the thick of things.
It’s possible that your instance may still create its own champ train, so I guess that’s a potential problem. It may help to try to join as new of an instance as possible by hopping into character select or joining the Claw event late, or even playing during off-peak hours.
Hopefully this helps someone. Good luck!
I think these champ farmers should be banned. I realize champ farming isnt bannable and players should be able to play their own way however these farmers are stopping others from being able to play their own way by not letting the players complete the living story. A quick fix for this is whenever an event like this pops up the highest grade mob that can spawn should be an elite. This problem also seems to be happening with Claw of Jormag too.
Experienced this first-hand today: Huge bummer since it prevents people from progressing in the Living Story, and also because the players who were just champ farming were rude and dismissive to the contingency who wanted to complete the event. Would it really have killed everyone to finish it once? With the number of players, it could have been done in ten minutes. And how fun can it really be to stand and wait for the champs to spawn over and over?
When you hit this event and there are champ farmers, just go for the objective anyway. I’ve done it on more than one occasion. Just ping away at the shamans (shamen?) and they’ll eventually go down. Anyone farmer whining…The wonderful thing about an unlimited block function.
And if you ever are having problems..just send me a PM, I’ll jump up there and help if I’m online.

Yeah, it’s gotten to the point where I’m on a 12+ second skill lag with the sheer number of people there, even with all settings on Low.
People get toxic if you want to progress the living story. Some real low characters out there in the GW community for sure. It’s up to them how they play, of course. They just will have to like it or lump it if I drag groups to them down the hill. :P
That, or they can get the devs to point LS at something else.
Quidquid Latine Dictum Sit, Altum Videtur
Maybe I need to come back on my guard for this and solo most of the event. As I pretty much did that to force them to complete it. I had my yellow tag up and all to boot! I needed it then as well.
The fix that just went in for these events is PERFECT. I jumped to Frostgorge jut to see the fallout and things seem to be much smoother. Champ farmers are getting their bags, story seekers are moving forward. The vitriol that was formerly present during this change seems to have dissipated greatly. GG Anet!
