A net has said before that Guildwars 2 is a Living world and I can see that in a way but I have always wondered why the game doesn’t have random weather effects I think it would be cool to have random weather effects on the game and with the suggestions being disabled now I have no idea where to post it at

1) I agree completely
2) We already have local weather effects at [&BCgAAAA=]
3) Would be a minor improvement, but hard to implement, so it wont happen any time soon.

I would like something like human starting mission where you fight centaurs and add air elementals and lightning that hit players. We all ready have dust storm event.

I would also love to see this also. Weather changes and actual day and night schedule. Different creatures depending on time of day. IE. Daylight would have lions, tigers and bears. Evening would have a mix of day and night. Night would have nocturnal creatures like bats and such. Dawn would again have a mix. The night would require a use of torches. The timetable would with the current.

For those that have machines that can handle it. You can always turn your settings down.

they all ready have day and night cycles but the creature remain the same. they got the dust storm but im not sure about adding this type of effect to existing part mainly cause of complaint of fps in dry top due to sandstorm. new areas might have the same mechanics though but dont add them to old areas

Not the machine—it’s the codeand or servers. E.G,—minis now turned off in populated maps!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This would be pretty badas. I cant see why it could not be done. Maybe seasons ? The snow could expand in some new teritories. The weather does not need to have special mechanics just as an effect. They did not need to code it on the servers just localy no one need the rain drops to be in synch on multiple clients.

A minor improvement, but I’m unsure how hard it would be to implement. Simply adding rain wouldn’t be too difficult, all you’d need is to change the sky map, adding some ambient-particle-rain-effects and turn down the light a bit. I think snow storms would be similar. Basically it wouldn’t be too different from what they did in dry top with the sand storm, simply add a new particle effect.
Doing it properly would be more difficult i.e. having we, dry and snow covered textures etc.
And lets not forget…

they all ready have day and night cycles but the creature remain the same.

No way players would be happy with just some minor visual changes. First comes the rain and snow then come the players asking for rain twisters and snow mites :P

And even more complexity :P
Yes ideally, we’d have realistic weather (rain, snow, cloudy etc.) which visually alters the terrain and textures (wet, snow covered etc.) and entire zones would show seasonal change etc.

Weather wod be a great start(it dont have to be some mamo jambo/high teah kitten a lot of players wod be happy to see just snow storms in snow maps / rain in maguma jungle maps ..etc)but they can make event base on weather like storm hit (name of map) go and help npcs.
But seasons thet is so good idea i wod love to see how show fall / malt down (it dont have to be on evry map) but this will be relly hard to make they need to put in timers / lot of new map details and i mean a looooot / need to change event /mision objective etc.
So for weather we may get it its not thet hard to make rain/snow etc
But seasons……well we can dream about it

Of course—let’s add lag

weather affects your system at least 300% less then a mild populated town, the most you might have is a FPS drop of 2-5FPS. (skyrim has weather and it doesn’t affect my machine for even a bit, some other MMO’s have the same but with no performance loss or lag)

anyway, i would love to see weather but why stop there?
not just weather but also seasons, it would add allot of life in the game world.
autumn with orange/brown leaves everywhere, winter with ether rain or snow, spring with rain and new life in trees and plants, summer with heat waves and full blooming forests.

it’s a ton of work but worth it, they want a living breathing world, that’s how you do it.

They already have thunderstorms on the Bloodtide Coast. They are quite cool.

Load on the servers isn’t an issue (I can’t imagine how anyone could think it would be), it’s purely client side rendering. Any PC built in the last ten years should be able to handle moderate weather effects. Last gen game consoles handle weather just fine.

I want to changeable weather. And armor skins sold in each map, for immersion.
With dark nights or rainy. Fog. Or snowstorms! Orages!

Elements that can make us use torches or lanterns, During deep dark nights.

They just arbitrarily locked Personal story quests because people were too confused.
There’s no way in hell A-net is going to add elements that actually require people to do more than follow a line to the next point. Arena net would probably expect a breakdown of guildwars 2 society if, god forbid, you can actually interact with the environment.

Just posting to point out that there is actually a sun, it just blends in rather well with the skybox, as does the moon.

There are also dynamic weather effects already in the game, but they happen very rarely and it’s only rain that’s dynamic, nothing else. And no, i’m not talking about dynamic event weather, i’m talking about regular weather independent of anything else, that of which is not static, although there are some places where static weather exists such as near the entrance to the Chantry of Secrets.

Case in point, the sun, the moon, the change between day and night, and the rare occasional rain that happens out of nowhere need to be made more noticeable. When I say rain is rare, it’s rare. Very very rare. I see it only once in a blue moon and it’s generally a pleasant surprise. (Not counting static rain or rain caused by events, btw.)

Side note as well, some NPCs have dialogue acknowledging when night becomes day and day becomes night. An example in the Grove being…

Sylvari 1: “Shh. Listen.”
Sylvari 2: “What?”
Sylvari 1: “There it is. The moment when night gives up its domain and day opens its eyes upon the world.”

Something like that, at least, I forget how it goes exactly. And there’s also some human npcs with similar dialogue in Divinity’s Reach.

From what i can see it’s just sun on/off effect not an actual transition between day and night, ther are no evening and dusk period, if ther are then they are extremly short like less than a minute, usualy you just by chance notice that night started and you don’t even know when.

p.s. just to add something that will now bother you if you didn’t notice it yet, shadows dont match sun or moon positions, and i mean all shadows i.e. mountains or trees and so on.

“The game uses a 2-hour day/night cycle: day lasts for 70 minutes, night for 40 minutes, with dawn and dusk taking 5 minutes each. Some events only begin during one of these time periods, some NPCs only appear at certain times, and some food and equipment confers bonuses during either night or day. In addition, the explorable paths of five dungeons and five Fractals of the Mists always take place during the night; the others are always during the day.”

Also, as for the point about shadows, that honestly doesn’t bother me at all.

Night times should be darker, a lot darker. Most times I can’t even tell if it’s day or night as it’s really the same.
Going into a cave or forest in night should really be dark. Forcing players to start using items that give light (there are way more of them than just torches).

which puts ppl in a disadvantage when they don’t have such an item…
this is not skyrim, it isn’t even close to that quality and it never will, if it was then at least half the mistakes in GW2 wound not even exist in the game. (i know skyrim has it’s flaws as well but it blows GW2 out of the water if it’s about immersion.)

I actually did something with weather in Second Life a few years ago – adding both weather and seasonality to a region I managed. It was challenging but, a lot of fun as I took it a few steps beyond what you’d normally see in a video game at the time.

Needless to say, I would absolutely love to see something like this added to GW2.

If people don’t have such item, they would adapt. It’s amazing to what things humans and especially gamers can and will adapt. Yes they will cry and moan and then just accept.

It would mean more use for items that give light and new tactics for sneaking. Of course it would mean that AI would have to be affected with visual range too, unless they had items to counter it.
