Kralkatorrik vs Mordremoth.
Mordremoth! I say this because a few days ago the wiki was updated with some info about Scarlet and her plans of waking Mordremoth. Hopefully an epic season unlike last years.
Kralkatorrik is known to create sandstorms and guard the path to Elona south-east to Maguuma…
Mordremoth is the latest awoken, but supposed to be north-west of Maguuma (Brisban Wilderlands)…So which one are we going to ride in your opinion?
Uh, I think got some of your information wrong. Maybe.
So I’ll use Kryta as our reference point. The Maguuma Jungle/Wastes is to the west of Kryta, while the Crystal “Desert” is to the south-east. So you got that part correct. But it’s being remembered that the Maguuma Jungle/Wastes were also very desert-y in appearance. That being said, Kralkatorrik is on the other side of Tyria. I’d love to fight him, totally would kill to go to the Crystal Desert, but unless Kralkodile decides to come out of a hiding go bonkers in the lush desert he made his home in, I don’t exactly see us fighting him anytime soon.
But that’s just a theory – a GUILD THEORY.
Actually Maguuma extends from Brisban Wildlands to Mount Maelstrom :

And as of now Zephirites are likely to be the missing link between Mount Maelstrom and the Crystal desert. But that’s just a theory too. A geographicly based theory.
Actually, Aidan, that’s just mechanical because otherwise the Maguuma would be the smallest region in the game besides Orr. Sparkly Fen and Mount Maelstrom are NOT part of the Maguuma Jungle in terms of lore. Lore-wise, they’re part of the Steamspur Mountains (as is Timberline Falls).
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
It’s already pointed out by Anet that we are dealing with Mordremoth…
@Aidan : the definition in the wiki is valid gameplay wise : achivements that say “maguuma” are done in the zones from brisban to Mount Maelstrom.
Lore wise, what is called maguuma does not constitute a coherent area. On the west side of the sea we have the true maguuma area (maguuma jungle+maguuma wastes+tarnished coast).
On the east, we have sparkfly/Mount Maelstrom that are the steamspur mountains and were formally known in GW1 as the southern shiverpeaks where droknar’s forge was located.
Since EOTN, the definition and area delimitations got blurred to accomodate the fact that anet released jungle themed maps all over tyria and to justify the existence of asuran bonuses there.
wastes probably became desserts because mordy was sucking life out of it. Dust storms expected in such areas. See great dust bowl for details.
The wastes have always been arid – heck, there was an area aptly named Dry Top.
Might have been because of Mordemoth was sleeping under it, but we don’t know much about his/her/its powers yet.
The Maguuma Wastes is rather new, in terms of names. There was always arid parts of the Maguuma, but that was due to elevation – hence the “top” in Dry Top – but down in the canyons they had lots of vegetation. We see one such canyon in northwestern Brisban, but there’s no vegetation any more. Now the Maguuma Jungle is divided into three rather than two; before it was Tarnished Coast and the Maguuma Jungle, but now it’s Tarnished Coast, Magus Falls, and Maguuma Wastes.
In short, in the past 250 years those arid areas expanded greatly enough to be considered “dried up” rather than “away from the water table” (which is mentioned as being underneath the jungle and the reason why those lower lands had heavy vegetation).
The primary theory is Primordus having dug underneath the Maguuma at one point and dried that water table up a lot, and given we have destroyers in the Maguuma… that’s rather likely. The other primary theory being Mordremoth’s influence, but as we see with all other Elder Dragons – unless there’s a champion awake, the Elder Dragons don’t have influence while asleep. And we have no knowledge of a champion of Mordremoth (yet).
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
I’m sure we’re heading for Mordremoth. The ley lines from Scarlet’s drill went thattaway.
On a complete aside, why can I reply in this forum’s threads but not in General or Forum Bugs? I’ve been trying to tell someone in General that there IS a /w sound, audible in Dulfy’s Wizard Finisher video at 9 seconds in, but it simply says “this area is not yet available, try going back home.”
