Ferguson’s Crossing
I’ve played a vast majority of the LW content (besides the few over summer 2013) and I have felt like the over all mood of the LW is just too light-hearted. Looking around the forums, I’ve seen a few old posts discussing the same topic about the mood GW2 sets. However, I would really like to see what all you other players are now thinking about the mood (and hopefully receive dev input as well
). I think the mood needs to be darker.
Anyways, as mentioned above, I believe a major issue regarding the presentation of the LW content and the Living Story is the mood it sets. Many of the updates that I’ve played have had this light-hearted and almost jovial mood. I know that many players feel like the entire Scarlet LS content has been kind of bad and presented poorly. While I’m not sure if a darker mood would of fixed the LS, it would of helped certainly. Perfectly honest, I sometime’s feel like GW2 is geared towards little kids. This has resulted in many of my friends abandoning the game for other MMOs that have a more mature feel.
What I miss the most and what I think the LS really needs to do is look back at GW1 and the mood that it presented. That game was certainly dar more dark than this game, yet the plight (Elder Dragons) is far greater than in GW1. I don’t understand. The mood in Ascalon in GW1 I felt was pretty good. The entire storyline of Prophecies was pretty good I think – and the mood really helped. Anyone who has played GW1 knows what I’m talking about and if you haven’t played GW1, I certainly recommend you do so.
I also played GW Factions and the mood was never like the mood is like in GW2. All of the threats from the first GW and its expansions managed to set this darker tone. That’s not achieved here in GW2 sadly.
Out of all the LS content, we haven’t really had that wow fact or felt anything in the emotional department. I want to be able to walk into a city and feel the sadness and the fear and the worry that the elder dragons have caused. Or even that the LS has caused for that matter. I don’t really feel much of anything as I slay the countless beasts Scarlet has thrown at us.
I haven’t read anything or heard anything about how the future of the Living Story is gonna play out, but I’ve read that the devs have listened to players and plan to make it better. I really hope that the new LS season manages to give off a darker vibe than this season.
Anyone’s input or information would be welcome!
Based on Scarlet’s Secret lair, I get the feeling it is going to get a bit darker. Her objective seems to be to eventually awaken and kill the jungle dragon that has driven her mad.
My guess is it will end with her succeeding in awakening, but failing to kill it.
Agreed. Everything feels way too whimsical and nonchalant compared to GW1. And it sucks because I was expecting more of the same dark themed stuff in GW2.
There’s no threat. The Mursaat were actually more intimidating than Zhaitan. Also, having next to zero communication with Zhaitan throughout the entire personal story sucked. There was no angsty build up to taking down the baddie.
Ascalon from GW1 out-glooms Orr from GW2 easily.
There’s some thought that one of Kasmeer and Marjory will be killed off, and I think one of Rox and Braham will be killed off as well (or instead of). If this actually happens then I think the mood will definitely be darker.
I think that it’s not right to use “dark” and “mature” interchangeably, in my opinion they are very different. I do agree that GW2 should maybe get more mature, at least once you dive a bit deeper into the story. I recently read “Ghosts of Ascalon” and I really enjoyed the mood in it; it felt serious while not failing to be cheerful from time to time as well
