Well, the title says it all. Us the players (pacman) running through a labyrinth collecting nightmare fragments(points) while being chased by deadly Mordrem(ghosts)…I was never a Pacman-fan, but so far I love this addition to the Silverwastes.

Glad you like it. Not my cup of tea personally. I don’t think the Labyrinth fits into the story well or the map and I don’t care for it. But then I guess I don’t have to like everything.

It’s better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

Same. I find it out of place for the setting. However, im not being forced through it so i can just ignore it now I’ve done a few plays through. In fact it benefits me indirectly by increasing player presence in silverwastes for the breach and events.

The thing is, how do you think Mordremoth is spreading his vines through Tyria? We know that all the vines are part of his body, after all. So does every vine lead directly to him, or does Mordy send larger vines into major regions which then form something like cluster roots from which the smaller vines originate?
If we look at the labyrinth as just that, it would make sense for so many vines to be in one place. The fact that A-Net made this cluster explorable just adds some more gameplay elements.
That’s why I personally think that labyrinth actually fits into the setting. The only thing that bothers me a bit is that we never got a lore-related reason to collect these nightmare fragments.

I guess (or hope) it’s an homage. I did it only once last night (and found the similarity immediately), but wasn’t enjoyable at all, my game style is the opposite of running from mobs (there are reasons why I main Guardian).

Same here. After I have opened the bigger chest in the middle and got the title, I see no reason or fun to go back there.

Well, I think it was really nice made! I liked it and when I first arrived to the Labyrinth when Caithe said there was something that’s big and running around here, the Legendary minion were running right against me, I was actually scared!!! [Although he was really easy to kill after I realized that you were able to kill him, lol] I’ve never been THAT scared before in Guild Wars 2 but this time you got me, Anet.

Overall, I’m not overly fond of arcade game mechanics being introduced into MMO’s; GW2 appears to implement such things quite often. The Tangled Labyrinth certainly falls into that annoying category; I appreciate that ANet made the “dungeon” optional. (Too bad the silly key is account bound.)

I been playing games since the first arcade opened up in my town back in 84; I never enjoyed sudden death games but those were the only ones out at the time.

My true enjoyment started about the time we were able to save progress in a game; it is especially why I like persistent worlds like MMO’s.

I’m sure some players find the Labyrinth’s arcade style fun, but I suspect the “fun” is more in the completion and less in the doing.

Q: When is insta-death in a game fun?

A: Not often, if ever.

It’s cheap and harkens back to a time when games had far less complex programming.

LOTS of support for what you said here. And it’s not just in this one spot.
GW2 has entirely too many spots with one-hit-kill “mechanics.” I don’t need an in-joke zone full of aggravation so they can, again, negate my playstyle.

Far less programming is not always a bad thing. I still have Master of Orion, Wing Commander and Marathon on my hard drive.

And I was pretty good at the arcades, especially Pac Man.

I like it. I just cackle every time I manage to escape 5 of those crazy modrem. And I cackle even more when I fail.

It’s frustrating at first but when you get the hang of it, it’s just pure fun running around getting all the goodies and avoiding the baddies.

I found the Pacman homage in the Labyrinth to be quite entertaining. Too bad there wasn’t a “Power Pill” we could take to supercharge our #1 skill and kill the wolves.

At first I was, “ugh!” But I went back in and eventually got enough Essence of Nightmare to make the big key and even then it took another event and several tries to get to the chest, I felt good that I managed it and you get a nice title for that too. Since then, I got the big key randomly – think it was out of one of the Breech Boss events and have nearly gotten enough to make another key. It is actually kind of fun in a weird way, LOL. Yes, you die a lot but once you start getting the hang of it in a strange way you want to go back to see how far in there you can get.

This one kind of grows on you. I realize it may not be for everyone but I am finding it quirky and interesting.

It depends very much on the class.

I also wouldn´t want to go in there with my guard or necro but had a lot of fun on my ranger with greatsword and on engi with elixir S and rocket boots. A thief with stealth-skills probably should be able to get through without much dying at all.

And of course it helps to learn the ways and to keep an eye on the mini-map for the wolves.

Your description was spot on and this place made a lot of us laugh out loud. There is also the mini-game in it where you run the critters into others or into people trying to afk at pod spawns.

I enjoy it. I die a lot, but I enjoy it. One thing you might want to make sure you do though, is treat it like Pac Man, play the minimap. Make sure to zoom in a few steps from max, until you can see the internal dimensions and maybe one more step so you get a clear view of the local terrain. Aim to run from gear to gear (the light bulbs), keep an eye on the enemy icons, let them run right by you when you’re down a different corridor. Spend more time watchig the map, and just glance at the live screen to note chest locations and terrain shifts.

Also, one thing I didn’t notice for several runs, there are three rounds, each of which gives you a reward pack for contributing to that stage, that much I knew, but also, the small chests seem to respawn and shift with each round, so if you’re really good and clear out all the chests in the first round, by the second some of them will be back, and others will be in places where none were the last time. It seems to be a system of dozens of potential locations, only some of which are available each round.

And yeah, I go in there with a guard, and yes, it sucks. I really do wish that they’d figured out a way to better balance this encounter for all classes, like locking out all abilities as long as you’re in there, whether you have your light buff up or not.

The “power pill” effect is what made GW1’s Pacman homage (Remains of Sahlahja ) so much fun. The labyrinth is a lot more chaotic and is fun in its own way.

Agreed. Thieves are by far the best because of the amount of stealth.

Also, I haven’t even tried this yet, but I believe my Thief would have a ton of other advantages over my Guardian. I have a passive 25% movement speed buff, I have faster Dodge regeneration, allowing me to dodge a few more wolf attacks, in a pinch I could even use the SB teleport to get some distance. Given all that, I may move my Thief from camping Dry Top to camping Silverwastes, even though I’ve been running SW with my Guard this whole time, and prefer him for all other aspects of the map, and prefer my Thief on DT. It’s a bummer of a choice.

The labyrinth is a disapointment (LS mode was good though).
They could have done something better out of that zone. I Think in-game games like this could be instanced like the others are, those u can reach from LA.
