Lake Doric's Map
It isnt always like that, at least on EU. I logged into a full event map tonight, with every event going and scaled up pretty high. Got a few acheevos done too. Took advantage of the numbers and a lot of fun while I could.
You do make a valid point about the leather farming distraction pulling ppl away from events, but I wouldnt get too disheartened since there are times when Doric is awash with players doing the events.
I don’t see why anybody would find the farm even remotely useful. Having over 300% magic find I still get minimal leather the times i’ve been there. But some people just like to grind and do the same thing repeatedly. To them its fun.

That which is dead may eternally lie, but with great aeons even death may die.
I’ve never seen the map empty, but I guess I’m glad I played all the events when the map was new before moving on to other content.
Lake Doric.
Let’s just say failing the vast majority of events and having an empty map isnt fun.
The OP has a point.
I am also having trouble completing events around the maps because no one is around. Even the ones I can complete solo aren’t fun because the world feels empty.
However, like I mentioned before in other posts, Lions Arch has tons of people just hanging around.
For whatever reason, not many people are leveling anymore and most of the established player-base only do fractals so there is little point to leave Lions Arch except to spend the 5 minutes doing daily quests. Pointless.
Game is no fun.
Utterly boring.
Try using LFG to find an active server. I go into Lake Doric relatively often and almost never have trouble doing events. It’s possible on a new map though.
Gee, I rarely enter Lion’s Arch, and when I do, I don’t see very many players there.
Nor do I find these ‘empty maps’ everywhere. There must be some odd thing happening with these select other players’ Megaserver algorithms, or something. Maybe they are on lower population servers, or don’t belong to Guilds, or have no one on their friend’s list….or something. /shrug
I dunno, a permanent localized place where people hang out in a map full of events, definitely doesn’t sound healthy to me.
I personally have no problem doing most of the events in Lake Doric solo though.

Interesting how this trend continues, people complaining about the farm in Lake Doric because they have some faulty notion that if the players who are at the farm weren’t farming, they would be elsewhere in the map doing events and helping other players.
I already have the ugly mask. I have the mini tonic and the mini fire tornado. I specifically created an Engi just for this farm. If I wasn’t occasionally farming, I wouldn’t be in this map AT ALL.
That’s the generic issue with all LS3 maps, and Doric is even worse than others. If you have achievements done and enough tokens, you have no use at all going back there. Doric fails especially because the three previous maps were enough to get a full ascended trinkets set, and bloodsone fen ones are better because you can restat them for a little fee.
Now, the few reasons I can see to go back to Doric are :
- Seraph craft needs Jade Shards, so if you want to use those…
- Maybe this map has “more” events : popping more frequently, and close to each others. So you can easily get rewards.
Draconis will probably even worse once everyone will have the ascended backpack…
Until the farm in Lake Doric that sucks up the majority of the maps players.
All of Lake Doric can be done solo so what does that have to do with anything?

+1 Only reason I go to LD since the achievements were completed is a quick jade shard farm (the farm there is so quick, it’s literally in and out like going to a convenience store for a pack of gum), and for the leather farm. Same goes for the other LW maps, I just go there for the nodes and that’s it.
I don’t believe the LD farm is a problem… It’s not like people being mildly inactive there scales up the events and makes it tough for the active players. Like for instance, the afk people in SW (especially the ones that afk from amber-south lane) that scale up the fights and make it really difficult for active players… and it’s not like it’s helpful to anyone, because the rewards of the map are based on event completion and not killing as many mobs as possible. I think something should be done about those people before something is done about the farming in LD.

So what.
This farm is in no way making the map better, it could be in its own instance in any other map or whereever its not interfering with other gameplay in the same map.
I doubt that its really that extensive that you cant do any events, but I’m sure it affects how people enjoy a map because a large amount of the population is doing the technozombie turret dance.
Plus yeah, these living world maps don’t have more replayability than other maps. Other maps dont even have this many achievements to do. I cant remember when I went to Diessa Lowlands other than for dailies.
Which could be a better idea. Instead of map specific dailies, adding these maps to the daily rotation once they are unlocked on one character on the account.

The OP needs to take into consideration how many of those doing the farm would actually be playing on that map if it did not exist. It can’t really suck up the majority of the map’s players if the sole reason for them being on that map is for the farm.
If you’re trying to complete events, and there’s nobody around, take the initiative and use the LFG to lead a squad/group to do them.

Once 25% of the map enters the farm, that map is essentially a farm-only map. Maps fit around 100 people, but the megaserver logic doesn’t actually fill them. At 50% or so, the map is prioritized for servers/guilds/friends, then locked to groups-only at 75%.
If the farm didn’t exist, the majority would be likely be gone, but those actually wanting to play would no longer be spread out, making it far more likely to encounter others. When normal players are continuously entering these dead maps, they eventually stop trying.

Where are you getting this? I don’t remember Anet releasing this info and I’ve seen otherwise.
You don’t need a full squad to do events as they scale.

Players can use the LFG to consolidate like the farmers do. They can also squad up on their map as there may be others doing events too.
No need to be rude or unrealistic. Flat out halving the cost of recipes isn’t even remotely a good idea, and what people decide to do with their time doesn’t need to be policed.
However, there is one problem I see with that area of the map, and that is it’s just too nice of a spot for engineers to fall asleep at. I’m not saying nerf rewards, or a class, or anything like that. But it would be cool if a boss spawned there right in the middle of the area. It would probably give them slightly more rewards, and just kill the naughty asleep people.
I was there today, wanted to try out that farming thing with my engi. The squad i was in varied between 45 and 50 and it was not the only engi squad on that map.
When Immelhoof poped up he got greeted by about 200 turrets, but that was not enough to kill him. The event eventually failed due to the small amount of people who went after him. The same thing almost happened to the supply dolyak.
The nerf to the spawning rate of the horsies was not was that map needed. The way i see it, they need to be scattered over a larger area where fully active players could still farm them with the same result/income.
The income i got from it were not all that great. I get better results farming Bitterfrost where you get them mini brazier events all over, the berries wich can be converted to UM, the truck load of crap you get from chest runs and that you can turn into mats, and if you have the karma buff, you can go rampage in the forest for a nice bundle of it. On top of that you get to really learn how to play your toon, toy around with your specs and kick some 9 bosses.
Was in LD engi farming for 2 hrs and wont repeat the experience, there are far more enjoyable farms out there.
It’s been over 4 weeks since I’ve been back after a 2 year break.
I’ve crafted a set of ascended armor, a few more weapons, made a legendary, finished the expansion with 100% on all maps, got just about every mastery point for champs from all the season zones yet
I still haven’t completed the mastery point for the centaur boss.
Hey maybe today is the day?
Thanks Anet! I knew you were listening and the numbers likely showed progression in this zone was seriously hampered by this afk farm. (To those who insist many weren’t afk, please, that’s laughable.)
Glad to see I was right, and so many couldn’t see the forest for the trees.

You clearly have never played engineer or used turrets.
theres not gonna be anyone around to get hit by the new siege,
anet logic, “if we give them rewards, they’ll try to get them” “well we don’t want that, take them away”
They should just remove all blue/green weapons from the game and give every foe its own unique currency to drop, that is account bound and non-tradable, and spendable on nothing useful

Yeah, those afk engis made the entire map so lively, didn’t they?
I spent 25 minutes on the map before work today and saw 2 centaur hill runs and 3 map events get done. I hadn’t seen a single map event done in almost an entire week before the engi farm nerf. “Dead map”…if anything the engi farm is what was killing the map. It’s more alive now than it has been in weeks.

I don’t believe you. Also, how many instances of Lake Doric are now running? I believe more Lake Doric instances were running and more overall events were being completed before this nerf.

See how easy that is? Anyways, I don’t care what you believe, and I honestly can’t answer your question about the instances. All I can do is tell you what I saw. You can believe me or not. It really doesn’t matter.

OK I’m neither for or against lake Doric farming, I wasn’t part of the scene so I’m unaffected. I did play the maps and did my things almost daily so it didn’t bother me what others were doing. I was able to complete all events daily for the most part (unless it was a day I didn’t go to Lake Doric). Wanted to throw that out there first.
Hmm so all you have to do is complain and ArenaNet will nerf the problems?
Lets see folks complained about Champ Train in Queensdale afterwards it was nerfed.
ArenaNet nerfed farming in an area specifically created for farming because some complain they can’t do what they want because others are farming. (never mind the other folks farming are doing what they want, that doesn’t matter)
I have a new cause for everyone. I want to complain that Mastery Points are too hard and everyone is keeping me from attaining them all. I recommend that ArenaNet start giving Mastery Points as part of the daily log in. That way I can log in log out and I have a new Mastery!!!!!!!!!! Lets get behind this new movement lol….

To be fair, they did nerf some of the time requirements on Adventures too. :P
And the new zones have XP gained with Unbound Magic, because people complained it was “too grindy” to level mastery xp tracks. Of course, that also starts to touch on raid masteries and xp-loss issues that would turn this already-contentious thread into a cesspit, so I’m just gonna stop there.

Lol apparently my sarcasm level was too low and it wasn’t apparent as to my intention, I wasn’t serious about the Masteries it was basically tongue in cheek remark regarding “Complain and we shall Nerf” type of theme.
As it currently is, Lake Doric is not a good map for replayability. Clerics drag the fights out and Elementalists do a ton of damage with basic attacks. The Jade stuff is already annoying. And the drop rate of shards is too low compared to just doing the task of Nolan’s Homestead and doing the short and easy jp with several toons. Seraph gear, is there any class or build it’s essential for? Basically once you get the minis, gear skins, and achievements you want there is nothing left to do.
Bitterfrost has way more replayability, fast drop rate of map currency. Two toons four days and you can get an ascended backpack. No annoying mobs that have projectile hate, leather drops from wolves and spiders which can be found farming berries vs a poorly placed leather farm that had to be nixed due to being right in the path of the meta.
I understand the “need” to slow down the engineer farm. But the amount of siege is silly, you cant even run up the hill right now with out a full squad as you get bombarded over and over as you are trying to kill one champ. This is no problem during peak periods but early mornings or off times when there is only 10 of us or so trying you cant kill champs fast enough and as they don’t move so you just become a target. I think Anet needs to do better balancing on this, or if you don’t want people to farm the area take out the mobs.
I have all the stuff and honestly if not for the leather farm, either engi, or up the hill run there is no reason or want for me to ever enter that zone again and seems a waste of server space to make zones that are do the achivements and never return. But I am noticing the trend of that with this season.
Also I have noticed the complain and Anet nerfs or removes. Some of us like to farm, I have farmed the open world metas as well as champ chains and everything else that comes around. They don’t like how people farm don’t make farm spots. Don’t give us pets, minions, and turrets. You don’t like to farm that is fine you play the game and the parts of the game you enjoy, but there is no reason to complain about what other people find fun.
Anet should focus on creating content, fixing bugs, etc. They’ve no reason to directly intervene with the game’s economy.
Players who complain about the farm spots are clueless and almost never have an argument. The farm does not affect anyone and it does not affect the in-game economy in any way.
They’re a very vocal minority. Why Anet decided to listen to them is beyond me.
My little heroines miss the funny times at Lake Doric

I am glad I got (almost) everything done on that map that I wanted to accomplish. Oh well, I guess I was never planning on completing that part of LS3 anyway.
Now I can just sit back and let 3 shards/day come in from my home instance.

So… ArenaNet has no reason to directly intervene in the game’s economy, especially not in farmspots which don’t affect the ingame economy?
And the one’s who complain about something that does not affect anyone are a very vocal minority.
I am definitely clueless about this argument. xD

Ok did my own personal test/review last night from 7pm to 8pm est. Took a new character that hasn’t mapped this area yet. Did not do personal story only farmed and opened map.
During this time I saw 8 people other than myself on the map. Had no requests to change maps so this may or may not have been the “Hotbed” map lol.
Viewed the Centaur camp from the Vistas not a single person was around not even standing on the hill. No Tags on map either.
Next I did the little loop (got the peach for the daily piece and went to the top). Looked down on map still no one. Next I got to the top (to get the POI at the top of the camp) no one there. Ran back out and jumped/glided down to hill outside camp still no activity.
Ran by several events and no one was working on them. Almost felt like I had stepped into a different dimension lol.
Finished farming mats and left. Again this is not saying all maps are the same but the one I was on last night (oh yeah I’m Eastern Time Zone and on the NA server) was for the most part dead. Shouldn’t matter but my server is Sanctum of Rall.
Again this is not a “hate” type of post only my personal observation.
Well, Lite Ning Strike, I can tell you that I haven’t been back to that map on EITHER of my accounts since the centaurs started relying on long-range artillery strikes. And if I do go back before someone invents counter-battery fire, it’ll be just long enough to finish up a couple of mastery points or collection items.

Hmm wonder if we could get a version of the “Patriot Missile” defense system might be worth a try lol.

If your experience turns out to be the norm then that would mean that the engi farm wasn’t harming the map, as far as completing events, as some people were making it out to be doing. People could just be grinding their WvW pips too.
