Largos
I find it mildly amusing that you complain about them ‘throwing out’ all the GW1 lore and then also complain about them using the Krait in a storyline when they’re one of the races that was introduced in GW1 and this might well give us more lore and history on them.
But also I think they’re saving the Largos for a future update (expansion pack?) and I don’t think they’d be appropriate for this update. From the little we know about them their society as a whole is neutral, leaning towards friendly to the player races and the appear to operate as individuals rather than large groups, none of which lends itself into turning them into a new organised threat for us to take down.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
People will complain about anything.

Perhaps because from what we’ve seen so far, this isn’t delving into the history of the Krait, or are the words “unlike anything seen before in Tyria” too ambiguous? Given the focus on the character of Scarlet, and how the Living Story has progressed so far, we’ve not seen real inroads or attempts to connect to GW1. Not to mention that the world is supposed to be at war with several Dragons, but we’re all conveniently forgetting about that.
And I was by no means suggesting that the Largos are themselves the threat, instead it would be the unknown “horrors” from the Unending Ocean. Which could make for an excellent tie-in to some Cthulhu inspired stuff, or heck, give us some giant golems to pilot and fight Kaiju Pacific Rim style.
I find it mildly amusing that my questions regarding a disregarded part of the world’s mythology that has some interesting hooks to it compared to the almost universally detested character of Mary Sue Scarlet is considered complaining. Its amazing how some people will view any criticism as negative.
Maybe since the Largos are an honourable yet vindictive bunch (think Chaotic Good), who certainly wouldn’t take the crap that Scarlett dishes out to her minions.
It would be nice for them to have a ‘home world’ under water somewhere, and a nice epic adventure to go along with it.
The largos do not interact much with the other races. We only get a sneak peek of the most elusive races in personal story and in Guild Wars 1 campaigns.

I dunno, I mean sure in Prophecies the Forgotten were only there for a couple of quests in the Crystal Desert, but by the time Elona and EoTN were released they were much more involved in certain aspects of the game, such as the Domain of Anguish.
It just seems to me that Krait for example have always been just a generic snake enemy, whereas the Largos seem to have much more leeway for an interesting story, along with said “unknown horrors” driving them from their homeland. It feels like a lot of the Living Story so far has been “forced” (Scarlet as a Mary Sue being a perfect example) and contrived, rather than flowing organically from an interesting base.
I’m so sick of the term “Mary Sue.” Labels like this really force people to ignore the details of a character and write them off as having no character.
Sure, she’s not a deep or even really that complex of a character, but at least she’s funny. At least she has character. I’m glad they gave us some details about her past at all, even if she is an unprecedented genius.
There are many characters in this game (and many more outside of it) that don’t even have a history. They are simply introduced to the story as a mechanic to keep the story moving and that’s it.
I’m not saying she couldn’t be MORE interesting, but I feel like this label is erasing what little we DO know about Scarlet because people who haven’t even tried to find out for themselves are just assuming it’s useless to experience/read up on her because they already “know” everything about her.
The Largos will probably be coming with the deep sea dragon and I’m guessing that the deep sea dragon isn’t coming any time soon. All the other dragons, even the yet unseen jungle dragon, are likely to come first.
i assume they are saving all the cool stuff for the expansion, hence we get a boring sylvari as the main villain of the living story

The label accurately describes her. She isn’t deep, she isn’t complex, and she’s not really funny either. What details they “gave” us, were given out of the game and as a backpedal to try to explain away the ridiculous character they gave us (and expected us the like and accept).
She is a fail because they did not develop her character. They instead threw her into our faces and said, “LOOK! She’s DANGEROUS!” IMO, the only chapter of the LS that impressed me in any way was F&F. Maybe it was a bit too drawn out (to be sure) with a lot of filler quests but it was interesting and mattered in the game’s lore. We HAD run into Flame Legion before. We HAD encountered the Dredge. Both of these groups had reason to ally. They were weak after their recent losses of leadership. The tenuous, necessity driven nature of their alliance even showed. This WAS already a cool story. Saying “Scarlet did it” only cheapened the whole affair.
Southsun was also a pretty long chain. The story with the settlers and the consortium was believable and potentially interesting. It actually showed that F&F affected the world. People were displaced and lost their homes! They needed a cheap place to live and a company tried to use this to further their ends! This is realistic stuff lol! The consortium were not evil but they certainly cut all the costs they could to make more money. Cannach wasn’t evil either but just furious with the Consortium. Everything he did, he did to harm them (and it ultimately put a lot of people in harm’s way). These stories were believable though.
You don’t need to tie all of this to one central, forced, kittenty villain. They did this…and people didn’t believe it. No one bought that Scarlet was behind all of the LS so far. So what did they do? They wrote a garbage post about how OP she was and how she learned everything ever and could do anything she wanted. That’s NOT how you write a villain. A villain develops and has a reason for everything they do. If you write it well and plan it out, you can drop little hints here and there so it will actually be something people are excited to hear about.
Of course it’s not her fault since she’s just a kitten character; it’s the writing.

This.
They are using the hallmark of amateur analysis though, so it’s kind of expected in a highly populated forum.
Because Scarlet is more interesting! right?

I’ve read all of the stories and they make her a Mary Sue…

It does delve into their culture a bit though. Not much new that isn’t in the blog post, though.
At least that I’ve seen thus far.
But that’s fine to me, TBH, as it at least gives players who don’t know about the wiki (only place I know that blog post exists anymore) a chance to learn this lore in the game itself.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
