The episode didn’t conclude why the barrier was broken. Do you think it was lazarus who framed the situation so he could gain the trust?

I mean, he’s most likely probably gonna turn bad in the end :P

The luminate said he thought the tech was just too old. (Proves that even ancient beings need to practice Emergency Recovery systems — you can’t just set up a backup system & expect that it will work, without regularly trying it out and seeing what goes wrong.)

PS your title is ever-so-slightly spoilerish. It was probably obvious from Episode 1 that we’d see Lazarus again. However: (a) not everyone has started the first episode and (b) even those who have won’t yet be aware that there’s a (potential) deception involved.

I always err on the side of assuming that people don’t want anything remotely spoilerish. In your shoes, I’d change the title, even though it’s the most minor of possible spoilers.

well here is my theory – bareer was attuned to the egg “signature”
when the egg hatched the “signature” has changed.

obviously forgotten and exacted weren’t stupid and knew such a thing would occur so they have build-in a protocol to reattune to a baby-dragon after hatching [source – Luminates line]

but the tech was centuries old and something failed to do the job so the bareer instead of reattuning have just simply collapsed and luminate had to reattune it, and then jump-start [restart?] it manually

which does not exclude possibility of lazarus “somehow” sabotaging things here, but then I think that exalted would have had some “protection” to prevent outsiders to tamper with the crucial city tech….

A friend of mine had an interesting theory: dragons eat magic, the barrier was magic, Aurene hatched, was hungry, and blindly reached out and snacked without understanding the barrier was necessary for her own safety.

Oh, that’s an interesting idea! I wonder what it would mean for magic-wielding creatures who are near baby dragons?

Considering the fact that Taimi hacked into Tarir’s systems, I wonder if her tampering is partly responsible, too. At least I hope so, because it might finally be a reason to give her a serious thrashing for her I’ll-do-whatever-I-want recklessness and disrespect for other people’s private business.

I agree that the barrier failing was likely either a technical error (Where’s a good magitech repair man when you need him?) or caused by Aurene somehow.

We need to keep something in mind when it comes to Lazarus – his race was at war with the elder dragons long before humans have been around. Moreover his race opted to hide when it was evident that the ‘elder races’ couldn’t work together to defeat the dragons and that – no matter their power or technology – zhaitan’s armies could not be defeated let alone the death dragon himself. (Risen mursaat and jotun, heh.)

go forward thousands of years later on their latest rise here comes this one individual who manages to not only unite the races/factions together to defeat an elder dragon but does so twice – with the second kill being accomplished with only a few skilled individuals. If I were Lazarus i’d find this very interesting. What allows this one seemingly weaker individual able to perform seemingly impossible feats – feats that his own race failed to accomplish miserably?

On another point with Lazarus, playing ball with the commander for now allows him to eliminate a greater threat to any future plans he has – the elder dragons. He can’t exactly plan his next move when everything on the face of the earth is being wiped out now, can he? He’s currently (re)living in a time where mortals can finally go on the offense and wipe out the elder dragons for good, and if Lazarus participates he can speed things along that much quicker.

lastly despite the enormous amount of magic he absorbed from the broken bloodstone his magic is still considered ‘Mursaat Magic’ and can be countered by the countermagic the Commander knows. (The countermagic was an invention of Zinn, who refined it from the technique the Seers used to create spectral infusion which negates Mursaat Magic) we have seen this dozens of times in bloodstone fen. Supercharged jade armors still having their own spectral agony turned against them, reversing the flow of magic from bloodstone shards. the point being that, despite his enormous boost in strength, the commander is very capable of turning that against him. Plus he won’t be able to keep all that magic forever – eventually he’ll revert to his normal strength in time.

all in all even if he wanted to do otherwise, he needs to play ball with the commander until the elder dragons are dealt with. (Imagine the situation of Thor and Loki from Thor: The Dark World. That kind of situation, but with Lazarus and The Commander.)

One last thing i’d like to point out. How the races would react if they ever discover that The Commander is teaming up with The White Mantle lead by a Mursaat? (the humans and charr specifically come to mind.) just some food for thought.

Well to be fair, Episode 1 concludes with his re-introduction in which he shields us before wiping out our opposition. And with how… poor the story telling is, I wouldn’t be surprised if other races, taking that into account, go, “Oh well, he’s not so bad then.”

Does make me wonder, because the Exalted in question had very little knowledge on the Mursaat. Perhaps word of mouth, I forget the wording but it talks to us briefly on the subject in asking who Lazarus is. Never mind that he just kind of appears and floats around.

The lore however, in Ember Bay, does seem to show some nobility (with a vengeance) regarding the Mursaat. They were angry at the other races who refused to help, the Dwarves and Jotun, in stopping the Elder Dragons.

So I’m hoping they don’t try to pull another Guild Wars: Prophecies. I’d rather have it end on a mutual respect, “Don’t start nothing – there wont be nothing.”

At this point, the ultimate plot twist would be for Lazarus to mean every single word and stay a truthful ally right to the end.

If you listen to how Lazarus speaks, he quickly states that he has proven himself useful and all but states that he is entitled to be counted as an ally because of his minor action. That dialogue reeks of ulterior motive.

Also, Marjory is a Necromancer. There were quite a few necromancer Murssat back in GW1 in memory serves. (And checking on the gw1 wiki confirmed that Lazarus was Necro / Ele) Perhaps that’s why Marjory said she felt a strange sensation being around Lazarus? They are both necromancers?
