Hey,

So something that is always irked me with the Living World is that all changes that happen are confined to one zone at a time, only exceptiong being living world characters changing (traherene, ellen, majory, erc).

A few examples would be the Toxic Tower Event. This thing has caused spores to spread through surrounding regions, yet there really isn’t any different NPC dialgoue changes or action changes except those in the zone. You’d think places like Queensdale would get some reaction out of the citizens or the Seraph.

Another example is LA was destroyed. This was a major trade city. It being destroyed should have had some pretty big economy side-effects from around the world. Yet most cities don’t mention it. Lionguard and Havens haven’t changed at all. I mean I don’t mind the cities not doing anything, but the Havens seem unaffected by the destruction of their main city and supply center. I’m not expecting like new events center around it (though I think it would’ve have been awesome to see new events introduced that would help the Havens stay alive. Maybe collection of resources, more defense events, maybe even a recruitment thing to help them replenish their manpower. The main thing I was expecting was at the very least a dialogue change. Like even if it was at least one NPC at each Haven that mentions it, that would have been great.

My main point is that this is the Living WORLD. Not the Living Zone. I really would like to see more World Wide side-effects from the living world. Now I have no idea if it is feasible cost wise for Anet, but if it is not then I understand.

I am hoping that Living Story evolves beyond “Instanced cut scenes and repeatable events that are around for 2-3 weeks and may or may not change the world as a whole.” Those have (in general) been fun, but they don’t feel ‘living’ to me.

However, I fully admit that my bar for ‘living’ is set pretty dang high- I was part of an MMO where the NPCs were played by live people you could carry on conversations with, where players could actively and dynamically influence events, and where when things changed, they changed for everyone, and stayed changed, even if you weren’t there when they happened.

Most of that wouldn’t fly for your average MMO without some serious paradigm shifts and reframing of expectations from both the company and the players.

But it would be nice to see some real innovation with Living Story.
