I think the difficulty is fine, perfectly accessible for single players, but not so easy that you’re basically guaranteed to win on the first try while doing nothing but pressing 1.
The other reason I think it’s fine is that these encounters don’t really scale up for more party members much, so if you’re really not very good at the game, it’s as easy as asking for help. Get one player that is actually good at the encounter and you can just autoattack and still get credit, see the story, and feel like you did something heroic without actually having to do anything heroic.
Errggh! Healing is disabled… Such a kick in the nads and i was enjoying the living story too.
GW2 has always been the easiest MMO I have ever played. Hey, instead of demanding the entire game shift to suit you, why don’t you guys try adapting or improving?
Lol, that’s not not gonna happen. Nvm
I play GW mainly for the story like you, but I did enjoy having a bit more of a challenge in LS2. Killing a “dangerous” creature in two blows is a bit of a let-down. It’s fun to think a bit and I was glad to have the chance to use my complete set of skills and even a couple of repair canisters that took too much of my inventory space. But I do agree, the dragon was a bit over the top. I ended up being more stressed after I beat it than relaxed as I should have been after playing a game. I know how to dodge, but sometimes, it felt there was nowhere to go. And the shadowy creature extinguishing the fire almost made me rage quit: as if the dragon stomping all over the place, the stupid shiny light dropped in random places and the exploding flowers weren’t enough already!
So, I say bosses should be 75 % of what they are right now in terms of difficulty and take half the time to kill or it gets repetitive and annoying. There should be check points in the middle of big battles as well… in case your connection fails or you just need to take a break.
When I finished killing the dragon, I felt happy… but exhausted. A guy wanted to group up and I encouraged him to solo it, I couldn’t bear doing it a second time. But he had already failed three times. So, you’re not alone. Yet, once you finish it, you’ll look back and laugh at the thing.
The dragon at the end of living story season 2 is actually fair if you play the right class. I had an arcane/wind/fire ele and a passive speed boost. You just have to learn the mechanics. Smotherer smiter is one of chapter 8’s easiest achievements. I personally had much more trouble with dodgy crowd and the worst seems to be it’s all about timing since time events, NPC “friendlies” that draw aggro, and needing to hold a point mix very poorly. You can’t control that NPC to run out of the circle drawing aggro and even if you shadow refuge him he’ll just chase the enemy (hopefully he’ll go far enough) so it can’t really be soloed that well. I’ll try dagger/pistol solo next time or do it with a staff elementalist with a group.
The flowers have a specific spot you need to step in to detonate without invalidating the achievement.
The problem with timed achievements however is minimizing risks takes a bit of time as you maximize safety and therefore your chances of completion whereas a time limit, especially an unreasonable one (for soloing) punishes that. Like I said earlier there’s a friendly NPC so he’ll take some aggro, and he unfortunately has no problem standing in the circle ensuring it stays red taking a lot of control out of the player’s hands.
Tl;dr: The dragon boss was somewhat hard but fair, at least as an elementalist and even finished the non-achievement part on my thief, which was harder but not too much so. Dodgy crowd was almost fair but you need to watch too much and don’t have your typical skillsets available to you (even if you play a thief many of the mechanics are different with Caithe, and believe her “10” skill with stealth should be an elite thief skill) but would be much fairer if you could start the boss battle again from a mote like the dragon. The timed quest is one where partying isn’t optional but is only reasonable with a party.

Usually, I’m the first who complains that content is too difficult. But especially the last 3 episodes are fine from my point of view. Not the achievements (the centaur boss achievements are nearly impossible without expert help), but the normal story is ok.
I spent far too much time in down state, that I gave up.
It’s far too much for me. And my problem with it, is that..to just experience the story…a little easier would’ve been nice.
I play games for the story and for an easy going experience. I generally avoid challenge. (I have enough in rl, I don’t need a game for that.)
and zax, you’re missing my point. I don’t like that anet is increasing the difficulty of the encounters.
Even if I know how to do something, doesn’t mean I can do it, and even if I can, it doesn’t mean it;s something I want to do more of.
(also, I’ve never participated in SAB)I suppose I just hope anet… considers an easier option. with progressing difficulty for those who actually want it.
What class, spec and gear are you going in there with? I haven’t found the LS to be difficult though it can be slightly challenging at certain points. This forum might be able to help you do it solo (which is what you want to do) if you let us know what class, spec and gear you are running with.

Hey, why don’t you try improving as a human being and not insulting people that simply have a different opinion or experience than you do?
fine…..I just suck…and everyone else had no bother with it……………………………….
Nah, there are plenty of people I’ve talked to that have found several of the LS2 instances either frustrating or annoying. This series of encounters felt very different to me than the personal story, a part of the game I’ve really enjoyed.
Personally, I think the challenging achievements would have been enough difficulty and they could have made the first playthrough a tad easier. I like to focus more on the story unfolding and less on the mechanics of surviving, but that’s me.
I found the shadow dragon fight in the Grove really hard on several of my characters (my necro finished it completely naked), Glint’s cave was pretty challenging, but mostly it was just soooo long, and I had some trouble with the centaur fight and the final dragon minion fight.
I finally got through it, but I’m a bit worried how hard HoT’s story is going to be.
I found them annoying and having to restarted a fight which is frustrating but I wouldn’t have any other way. This is a video game what would you expect. If you want easy sailing just read a book or watch a movie for no effort storytelling.
Maybe i’m not right but you fight with the Dragon minions. One of the most powerful Dragons. What do you want? It’s hard but Kasmeer always revive me or Rox. So it can be done. And this is a good hard lvl. So take you sword and stop whine.
I’ve had a bit of a bad day so I apologize for being a bit blunt, but these “LS fights are too hard!” posts have been springing up since Hidden Arcana (Glint’s Lair) and I’m a bit fed up with them.
Literally the only way I could imagine these fights being difficult is if you’re 1) Having technical issues, 2) Have a disability that limts your ability to react and/or process information or 3) Have extremely limited experience with, not just MMOs, but video games in general.
Don’t get me wrong, I sympathize with the frustration of not being able to beat an instance/mission/level on your first few attempts, but these fights are. not. hard. Even just a few minutes (or moments in some cases) of observation reveals that obvious mechanics are obvious. And if you don’t want to do that there are numerous third party gaming sites that publish both text based and video based guides detailing the strategies these bosses require. Hell, Dulfy usually has her guides up the day after an update is released. Sometimes even sooner!
I don’t expect every (or even most) players to be able to solo “Wicked Rodeo” or anything, but I for one don’t want to see Anet’s content designer’s shackled because the GW2 playerbase is too lazy to transition out of 2+ years of “stack and autoattack.”
Again, I’m sorry for being a bit sharp but the game is finally becoming not just interesting, but respectable. Something I can show my friends and not get laughed at…
well, just have a framerate that saways from 20 to 30 in random intervals and since the last 3 patches lagspikes from 400 to 4000 (yes, fourthousand)
doing anything precise during those spikes?pft.. yeah, bam half Hp away because of a hit during such a spike.. Which I will now see in fast forward.. disorienting it is.
The fps-weirdness went worse after hot, before i was able to get it around 50… now, well I am happy with 30 and I havent changed a thing in the options, all drivers are new etc.. Just do A JP or such a fight with it.. the more stuff happens the worse it gets, for fights like teq it can tank up to 5fps… And during the cavefight happens a lot of stuff..
I mean, my laptop seems so bad that I cant see the sandpools from that centaurfight for example.. They are just not there, so its random luck and my memory that would help me avoid harm…
So, there may be technical issues that make this kind of precision-work notably harder and totally RNGbased.. and its gotten worse after hot.
So In an utopia I wished maybe the game could see that some users have kittenty ping and worse FPS and would give more time to react based on that rate of information(which it can measure or it wouldnt be in the menue)
I finished it many times with connection issues.
All u need is a good partner, most difficult on ls stories is linked to class mechanics.
im usually online 0:00 server time, i can help anyone beat it.

Runes of Magic is far easier than this game, RF Online, Anarchy Online, The Secret World while hard in places the stories were easy solo..
anyone else find that the LS is too hard? ..I don’t mind the achievements being hard, I can live without the ap, but it’s pretty frustrating to not be able to complete an episode or if it to take so long that it becomes boring.
the chapt 8, dragon boss, I can not beat. I don’t have a bunch of people I can team up with…..and even if I did..it shouldn;t “require” that.
anyway,,,what I am wondering, is not whether people like the encounter or didn’t find it challenging, I’m wondering if there others who felt it’s too hard…that anet has starting to push to offering “challenging” encounters for those asking for it, but isn’t thinking about those who haven’t.
Again, I’m ok with the achieves being challenging…but the first run through shouldn’t be.
Yeah, about Point Of No Return – The Mystery Cave
For the absolute love of god
•Make it so players can skip the cut scenes for this very long instance with very difficult to obtain achievements.
Way too much time spent back peddling unnecessary content.
Achievements should be difficult but not painful
