Mirkrise Waypoint in Brisban Wildlands is shattered, pieces of it lie on the ground and the WP is treated as permanently contested. I guess we are going to get hard times with travelling when the new patch arrives…

Hmm and from the same reddit post there is a suggestion that the vines dragged the waypoint to the ground which broke it. Might need to camp near a waypoint to record that.

Trying to waypoint there (as it reads as uncontested if you’re in another map) causes me to be redirected to Ulta Metamagicals Waypoint, where an unsettling sight looms above. (first attachment)

After treking over there…yep, it’s gone. (second attachment) The vine’s nowhere to be found now, but I have a bad feeling..the one at the entrance to Dry Top is getting grabbed too. And there is at least one waypoint I’ve seen in Lion’s Arch getting grabbed too…

I knew it… When the first WP got grabbed by a vine I already told my guild mates that we could prepare for some major walking…

How I hate to be right in this regard. I demand Charr saddles as compensation! I am Asura and have very short legs after all!

I believe replacements for damaged waypoint will be in after the arc ends. I look forward to how AN is going to intro to temporarily replace these waypoints. Own airship aka FFVII Highwind? Yeah, Biconics has their official bling mobile! :p

I’ll also add that the maps just aren’t set up in a way that can accomodate “mounts”.
Also, this is ArenaNet, who enacted a limit of 20 minipets per instance in GW1. And you really think they’re going to use even more server resources to give every player a “mount”?

I’d take instant teleportation over riding a panda any day of the week.

If they remove waypoints (even just some of them) and don’t replace them immediately with movement speed buffs above Swiftness then there will be riots. Especially from Mesmers, and they know Mesmers are the most powerful.

Are you trying to make some joke about mesmers? I play a mesmer and I have traveler runes, which makes me run faster than most people, and any mesmer has access to a swiftness skill on the offhand focus.

Mounts would be cool somehow -> as long as we don’t end up riding strange things that don’t fit the theme of the game at all… Be it cars, carpets, skis, motorbikes, etc. I’ve seen all of this in a fantasy MMO and don’t want to see it again.

I wouldn’t mind my own golem, moa, llama etc. though g

But I highly doubt this will happen – I just couldn’t imagine it given the size of the maps…

Totally agreed and I don’t have a mesmer. I don’t even think mounts or speedbuff would do it for me. I’ve played games where you had to run through emptyness and trash for 1/2 hour or more to get to the main action, or just to get much of anything done (Pirates of the Burning Sea, Asheron’s Call IIRC). And you had to be there to steer your toon and not stumble into some low level mobs that would kill your unattended toon. Or you couldn’t just hop on a griffon and go afk for a bit like WoW. BORING and boring! It was one of the main reasons I gave up on some games.

A significant selling point in GW2 for me is how quickly you can get almost anywhere from anywhere in this game. I took that as Arenanet learning from those other games. If they seriously mess that up I’ll just take a vacay from GW2 for a few months and hope they fix it after the LS2 arc ends. That’s if I don’t find another game in the meantime.

A few scattered WPs temporarily down for the sake of the story? No problem and actually kinda cool IMO. Widespread outtages? Seeya!

I seriously hope it doesn’t mean mounts. I agree with everything Meadfreek said. Not to mention that it trivializes travel within a zone. As it is, many people use WPs to move about but for those that do roam, it’s nice to run across other players who’ll join in on events. Mounted players will just run on by.

Hehe yeah. Well, I main a mesmer and it seems mesmers are the class with less sources of swiftness. Runes can do the job but other classes seems to have more reliable sources of swiftness without requiring any additional item. I’m usually slower than my friend that I’m used to be in party with and if they are going to make travels longer.. then meeh.

Not necessarily and we wouldn’t know until we actually had them. Right now people run by events sometimes or they choose to join in, it’s completely player choice and mounts… I’m not seeing that being any specific influence on their decision making. People who want to explore wont be denied the luxury. That there is my point though, if mounts were introduced nobody would be forcing you to mount up – you do so at your own pace. In those regards, I’d be completely ok with that.

As I type there is a small crowd gathered at Ulta Metamagicals WP. If popcorn existed in the game, we’d be munching it.

I am in the camp with those that hope this does not lead to mounts in the game. There is already too much ‘falling in line’ with other mmos because things are ‘common features and are expected.’ Ugh. If they are going to go that route, they may well just throw in the towel now, and start pumping out a new gear tier and another required 10 levels of “progression” every year, because that’s the road they’re heading for. “Well so-and-so jumped off the bridge, so should we”

I’d prefer, I think, to see like events for rebuilding the broken waypoints. Or the ability to craft personal / guild way points instead. Something a little more outside the box.

Yeah, when a screen shot was taken from the trailer it shows Concordia and on closer inspection you can see something glowing with a blue hue in the mid right corner (which is where the Waypoint should be). So as soon as someone posted the What is that Vine doing to that WP. well… we kind of assumed the two were connected too much to be coincidental.

So as soon as someone posted the What is that Vine doing to that WP. well… we kind of assumed the two were connected too much to be coincidental.

I figured it would contest them in the upcoming patch. That was a given, yeah. I didn’t foresee it actually destroying them.

I am not a wizard, but I expect this will not result in mounts.

Instead, there’ll be one of two things:

1. There is a tug-of-war across the relevant zones, in a direct line, across the broken waypoints. You’ll try to capture and repair them, while Mordy will try his tentacle buggery business to break them.
2. They’ll just be individual events which are related to their individual areas.

I figure what’s her face aboard one of the airships will play a role in assisting us as a mobile platform. That’d be kind of neat, traveling across the world with a travel time.

I commend Anet on the delivery, this is the sort of stuff I like – changes over time.

I hope it’s a permanent destruction. I want 80% of waypoints to be destroyed, we have way too many of them right now.

I love mounts. It makes sense to have mounts as well seeing as NPC’s have a whole array of transportation other than walking or wp’s. Also, it means the possibility of a Mario cart type SAB.
