More developed villain for the future.
What’s wrong with developing these characters now that we’ve been introduced to them and added in the game?
So Ellen wasn’t “randomly thrown together” the first time we saw her? She was even supposed to have been a guy https://twitter.com/Peter_Fries/status/364467076582227968.
This is the first time we see Scarlet and since she Spoilerescapes we will see more of her in the future.
How are you supposed to introduce a character, villan or not, if you don’t create the character first and show it to the people? Are you suggesting you show the character to the people before it even exists?
Also, the short story about Scarlet is very good and insightful… sadly barely any of it is referenced in game.
So I agree, the game needs more lore exposition that doesn’t happen outside gameplay, because after reading this short story of Scarlet I became 5x more interested in her, however, immediately asked myself… Why is barely any of this in game?
What Mikuchan said – they just intorudec her! Ellen Kiel was brought up out of the blue just like Canach was (and in the same release as well), or like Scarlet is right now. We actually had some hints there is some sort of “personal nemesis” (even though I doubt Scarlet classifies as that), we even know she is going to be named Scarlet. But she has issues. She might be an interesting character, as the short story implies, but she is not, she is completely different person in game. Again, I´m sad to say this, but ANet couldn´t implement the lore and characters in the game properly. I hope it´ll get better. If she will continue to be just a spoiled brat with Tyria as her toy, I just hope we will kill her ASAP and get a proper villain or threat. Maybe one of those Dragons we heard so much about?
I think Scarlet is definetely a lackluster villain thrown out into the game all of the sudden. I get that she was the head of the Aetherblades, which we met a while back. She might have even been responsible for the Molten Alliance. I think the limited background we have about her is interesting after reading that story on the main page. However, to me, none of this really makes up for the fact that she doesn’t have any motive. So she saw the Eternal Alchemy, then decided that she should go form the Aetherblades and Molten Alliance then take over the world. Pretty cheesy if you ask me. It actually seems we had some other beings that were super-powerful and wanted to destroy the world. Oh wait, we did! quoted for truth.
WP comes up with more interesting ideas than the entire Anet writing team combined.
WP tends to favor the melodramatic (e.g. the sylvari are all evil idea from before launch). I’m not really a fan of melodrama in this instance because I just don’t think it could work in an MMO (and we get enough guild melodrama as it is). But if you are looking for that kind of story I can see why you’d like it. Different people have different preferences.
Edit: When the writers do put in drama they usually underplay it (the most we get is Caithe pining over Faolain in various ways and Eir constantly being confronted with past mistakes). The Logan silliness is the only obvious one I can think of.

Wasnt Scarlet some mastermind all along?
Im not sure actually, but if she was this would be her introduction, and i hope we get to see more of her in the next stories :P
