Mote Master (and other 2) Achievement Guide
You don’t mention the Mordren Pods at all, which is the entire reason the dragon regenerates, and also the reason behind the immobilize/trap mechanic.
The Pods are immune to damage unless you have the Pheremone buff, and it seems that this is applied to anyone who gets trapped by the pods… providing they don’t also get downed by any subsequent attacks. So anyone who does get this buff after being trapped should kill any Mordren Pods that have spawned to reduce the dragon’s regeneration. Left unchecked, multiple pods will spawn which will make the battle far harder than it needs to be.
Dragon stomps can be dodgerolled, which may be safer than jumping due to the larger invulnerability window. It’s certainly a better idea when going after the related achievement, but if you can get the jump timing down consistently, then that can certainly save your stamina for other dangers in the challenge fight.
Maybe that’s a mechanic more relevant to party level fights. When doing this alone getting trapped is death, so there’s no need to ever care about it as you should never ever get trapped by the pods – which means you can never be able to damage it anyway.
But thanks for mentioning that bit though. Might be useful to someone who isn’t doing this fight alone.
The pods are pretty interesting. And if you stay out of the middle you can usually safely get the buff to kill them. I couldn’t kill the boss without wiping out all the pods.
But once you get through every stage it becomes easier. That thresher is dangerous though.
I had fun doing this achieve though. ..talk about being on the move. xD
It’s one of the first good fights I’ve had in the story, I’m happy with it.
Liadri in comparison was somewhat gimmicky. This though is legit, even if it could still be made slightly harder. XD
I was unable to solo the dragon without killing the pods. The way I killed them was when I saw the reticle on my character showing that was about to be caged, I would run to the side of the map & use my heal if needed. If I was at close to full life and out of the main aoe area, then I would let myself be caged, break out and kill the pods. There is some mechanic that causes the pods to stop spawning after killing all 4, but I cant figure out how to consistently get them to stop spawning. Just keep killing them all and dropping the dragons health & they stop respawning, or least take a very long time to spawn.
