Name Your #1 thing that impressed you from S1
This one for me:
It was free!!! ’Nuff said.
It’s the chain I beat you with until you
recognize my command!”
The boss fight in molten weapon facility if I had to just say 1 thing.
There were quite a few impressive living storys thou to be fair.
The marionette fight. It was so enjoyable that I didn’t mind losing.
For me it was that very last ending party in DR where they all talk what just happend and while they talk I looking into history achievments and remember all those things what I ve done in S1 (and I done all of them) then I step outside and there was that short animation with “to be continued..” Its totaly get me:-)
Tekkit’s Workshop
Queens Gauntlet. The only update where there was a legitimate challenge, and the satisfaction gained from that.
No huge world boss that was a sponge for auto attack.
Top three in order:
- The Marionette fight. Entertaining, interesting, and rewarding to experience (not the end loot) when you could have a complete success. The biggest problem is, of course, not having a team who can win or wants to win.
- Flame and Frost. When all of it was complete, it was really quite interesting to look at. Shame it was stretched out on release and there was so much time spent on anticipation and speculation. It fell flat only because the first parts dragged on so long.
- Battle of Lion’s Arch. All technical snags and rebalancing mid-release aside, this was a really interesting and fun concept to see fleshed out. First the evacuation, then retaking the city. However, I find it hard to say I’d want more of these since if it continuously happened then it’d sort of wear thin on the lore premise if major things kept getting assaulted quite so often.
For me it was the whole Tower arc. I really enjoyed it.

I hated the RNG. I hated the endless festivals. I hated the loot nerfs midway through some of the releases without explanation, but at least the music was nice.
Marionette, Frost and Flame, and the Bazaar of the Four Winds (let’s face it, best area in the game).
PvE Main – Zar Poisonclaw – Daredevil
WvW Main – Ghost Mistcaller – Herald
I am seeing alot of “top 3” type posts, cmon guys, put some deep thought into what that ONE thing you feel is the best from Season 1.
I could easily say the marionette style multi-team fight, or the gauntlet 1v1 challenges, or the Legend of Zelda-esque crystal hunts from Bazaar, boss battles from the F&F dungeon, etc. etc.
I wanna see more #1, the most important thing to the player.
The design of Charr Molten Berserker. I loved it !
[SALT]Natchniony – Necromancer, EU.

The flame and frost dungeon. Very nice piece of content for me, with an interesting boss fight at the end of it.
Very little else in season 1 was either memerable, or good quality.

No.
But if you insist: Scarlet’s voice actor.
The Tower of Nightmares. It seemed like LSS1 really turned around at that point.
I really can’t decide between the Marionette and Battle for LA. The music of both, the desperation of the Marionette, and the anticipation of defeating Scarlet with the Battle. They both also really opened my eyes up to the beauty of guesting (thank you TC and BG!)
Having thought about it more while typing I’m going to go with Marionette. I still get flashbacks when I ever go back to where it was in Lornar’s.
Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?
This one for me:
Although mechanic-wise the Marionette was more interesting, the Hologram fight was better due to a almost perfect atmosphere for a boss fight. Especially because of that song and Scarlet’s voice-overs.
So, chapeau for Leif Chapelle and Tara Strong.
I like the addition of Taimi as a character. One of the few characters that feels fleshed out with an intersting backstory.
The evacuation of LA,
I was quite impressed that there is content which makes people work together in that big scope. Getting the best reward after having good evacuation runs was quite satisfying to me.
1. SAB
2. The Marionette Battle
3. The Molten Facility
4. The Aetherblade Retreat
Tixx’s airship.
I was addicted to some of the festival minigames(Dragon Ball, Lunatic Inquisition and Toypocalypse were my favourite), I love much of the music but if i had to pick one it would be the Marionette battle. My server was rubbish at it but I was around for two successful attempts and it felt great. Loved the epic server teamwork involved.
hmmm the thing I was impressed the most I think was the attention to detail these releases had.
I was impressed how events carried forward and evolved with each release. The refugees moving around and settling in cragstead after the secrets of southsun. How they helped rebuild cragstead and anet actually fixed it up even though nothing was happening there and probably very few people visted the place. How Braham was actually removed from cragstead when he moved to the tower of nightmares to help out over there. Little things they didnt really have to do but that made sense for them to happen.
Marionette battle. The assault on the Breachmaker was good too, but it lacked a certain feel of personal accomplishment. The kind you got when your small team on the marionette platforms succeed. The music was awesome. I also loved the concept of not directly hitting the toe of the big baddy, but did something in the enviroment to turn it against it.
The Breachmaker had music just as good, and Scarlets quotes added to the awesome feel, but actual gameplay made the Marionette superior.
The visual designs.
Story was a bit wobbly as they were still (in my opinion) figuring out how to effectively deliver narrative via living story. The open world content had similar issues with ANet doing a lot of experiments to figure out how to best deliver it (with some hits and misses). The meta-achievement model was decent but not the best, but I think that had to do with the time limited nature, grind is easier to achieve in a limited time.
But the visual design was good (probably since they could do what they do best, make things that looks interesting). Molten Alliance had an interesting look. Aetherblade didn’t really do it for me, but the Toxic Alliance and the Clockwork creatures made up for it. The wrecking of LA was also well done.
if it was part of the story (but id much rather say its an sidestory id pick the SAB sab back to school was soo much fun
a cuple of hours of trying how to get through these damw flowers ice spike …DEAD GRMFGH and the satisfaction to be the first two of our guild who made it
also these account bound colourfull weapons
cant fait for next SAB
Spiking Scarlett and knowing that we’d never have to see that poorly written ‘character’ again.
The addition of the Twilight Assault dungeon path was the best thing they did in S1 for me (I really enjoy that dungeon), but there were a lot of updates I really enjoyed – The marionette, the temporary dungeons (aetherblade and molten facility), the Tower of Nightmares, Secrets of Southsun, etc.
uhmm….they….made some necro updates i like……..that’s it.
“Name Your #1 thing that impressed you from S1”
Hummm…. The huge Mothership over Lion arch!
I can’t think of a better way to totally screw up GW lore
I mean who still care about crude magical dragons now that we have 2 km wide flying saucers in Tyria low orbit?
I’m torn between the Tower of Nightmare instance ,because it was my first experience in an open world dungeon.
Also the new temp dungeons they added I loved running my guild mates through Aetherblade retreat and Molten.

I am so disappointed they completely killed the nostalgic remnants of the old Lion’s Arch with that monstrosity
Killing Scarlet, and glad that its over.
I was and still am very pleased with the watchnight tonic though, but I’D LOVE FOR IT TO BE PERMANENT. Arena Net consider it please! or at least have it last 15 minutes on and then 15 minutes off, that would make alot of us happy
That it was all free and that if for some reason I couldn’t play and obtain one of the items, I didn’t feel left out or behind. You know what I mean? I could skip and entire living story that was mainly meant to be fun and not all rewarding so missing out wasn’t that big of a deal given there were some GREAT farms along the way.
Evacuating LA. It had stacks of atmosphere, not just because of the miasma. I’ve had to evacuate from a busy town centre in real life once before (and once was enough), and I think it resonates on that personal level with me. Most other things from season 1 have been passable; but I identified with that evacuation and it will stick for a long time.
And... annoying sky lasers FTW!
That it was over.
- The boss fight mechanics – namely the Molten Facility bosses (both mini-boss and dual end-bosses), Toxic Hybrid, Twisted Marionette, and Prime Hologram.
- The new music.
- The aftermaths of Tower of Nightmares and Battle for Lion’s Arch. The feel of repercussions and permanence – all that was missing was keeping the old look in the personal story steps, and permanence to the instances.

You know that 90% of the ruins that were there before… are still there right? You just have added chunks of metal. But the barracks, the lion statues, the aqueducts, and even the fountain that was right next to the drill are there still.
Don’t believe me? Go for a dive.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

I found 2 sets of scattered stairways, and whats left of the fountain….hardly 90%
What ruins are missing? I was down there not long ago, and I didn’t notice anything glaring that was missing….
The music and Bloodtide Coast’s wurm.
It was free!!! ’Nuff said.
This is probably the best thing about the living story.
The Marionette battle.
I’m really casual and unlike the 3-headed jungle wurm which was practically impossible without a buttload of coordination, the marionette was possible to do, didn’t have ridiculously difficult mechanics, and had great music.
The Scarlet fight was cool too, but was a little too long and obnoxious for me (which I guess is alright, given that it was kinda the ‘last boss’ of S1).

seriously? its okey to have flying castles in kessex hills or a flying city (rata sum) but not a contraption?
Molten facility dungeon.

The fountain was untouched from release. As was the Lionguard barracks and the aqueducts. I don’t know what you’re talking about, perhaps you should spread your search for ruins out further because they aren’t clumped in one tiny spot n never were.

I’m impressed that the “story” ended. Scarlet was lame, the NPC heroes were worse, and the writing overall was terrible.

The Molten Facility dungeon. That was great fun.
