New Lazarus Theory! (SPOILERS)
doubtful. what you may be noticing is simply a game mechanic. remember, you’re unarmed when you’re in the disguise, so having a destroyer crab attack you while you’re in disguise would be a low blow given you have no way to defend yourself.
Why is there a destroyer crab in the room?
Cirilaa – Druid, Galaxy Idol Tetora – Mesmer, Aintno Hoelbrakgirl – Guardian
which I assume is the Door of Komali… or I think that’s what it was called in GW1
It’s not. This is not the main volcano by the looks of it. The Door of Komali is in Abaddon’s Mouth which looks to be an area to the North West which we cannot access yet.
Why else would a destroyer not be hostile to a character disguised as a mursaat unless Lazarus (the last remaining mursaat) struck up a deal with the dragon.
The disguise prevents you from attacking in general, why would Arenanet throw you into a situation where you’d be slaughtered without the ability to defend yourself? Your entire hotbar is locked.
Why is there a destroyer crab in the room?
As we see in Tarir, they can burrow.

Then why would they put the crab there in the first place? There must be a reason why it didnt attack. If it wasnt suppoused to work that way, why put him there?
This theory is sound, i support it.

Yes but…. why is it there?
Is it there to tease astute player characters with a new mystery, or is it just sloppiness on the part of the developers? In this instance, I’m going to guess the former.
The crabs spawn when a player activates the machine, they’re coming through the hole in the corner of the room.
They attack whoever they aggro, including players in Mursaat disguise, you’re simply invulnerable.
As to why they’re there, probably because they’re just scouting or whatever, or it was a really silly attempt at stopping the player/they noticed the machine being turned on
Destroyers drag something heavy into the fissure. Possible dwarf that was guarding that machine. There is stone bed and wall fabric or flag with two hammers.

Or they’re just all over the Fire Islands. I think this is just grasping at straws personally, especially considering how illogical it is to make a player get jumped by something and locking their skillbars so they can’t fight back. You know, unless you’re supposed to “die”.
You’re invulnerable while in Mursaat form. Even fall damage and lava doesn’t hurt you. So you wouldn’t die even if they were still aggressive towards you. I had a ton of fun playing around with the Mursaat disguise, including running around during the Pyroclastic Jade event ressing other players while swimming through lava and other players’ attacks without even getting a scratch.
I think you’re looking too far into game mechanics looking for story where there is none. The Mursaat disguise switches you from the “player” faction to the “enemy” faction in order to make all the jades friendly / non-hostile towards you (while at the same time not altering how they react to other players). Its why you appear as a red target to other players when disguised and can be hit by other players attacks (though again, because you’re invulnerable it doesn’t do anything short of showing “Invulnerable” on-screen).
The Destroyers are non-hostile because they’re also part of the “enemy” faction.
As for why its in that room… well, like you said. There was probably a stone dwarf in that room at some point to run the machine. The Destroyers are there to explain why said dwarf is no longer there. They broke in and dragged him out of the area.
Ok but why is it not a hostile creature? I’m invulnerable to damage…. so why make the creature non-hostile? It could attack me and I’m just invulnerable… but that isn’t what happens.
The dismissal of my argument seems to focus on the fact that A-Net wouldn’t make a thing like that hostile if your skill bar is locked… but if you are invulnerable than does that matter?

To make it attack you, it would have to be a faction other than “Player team” or “enemy team” (for lack of the proper names). And if they did make a “Kill everyone” team, there might be problems that would require debugging.
Instead, they made it simply “enemy team”, and let it attack you when it sees you properly. When I did the story, I didn’t see it until AFTER I turned on the machine and my costume dropped. I think that’s how it’s supposed to work, and seeing it before is a minor bug. It’s supposed to draw your attention to the crack in the floor, and the scratch marks.
delicate, brick-like subtlety.

Like I said, the destroyer crabs are hostile to you even when in Mursaat Armor. Not sure where you got it from that they’re friendly.
When I did it, the destroyer crabs were non-hostile( they were green), then when I lost the mursaat disguise, then they attacked me.

Perhaps they fixed it since then…
The destroyer crab in that room was also hostile for me even whilst wearing armor (did it on the night of release). So it may just be an anomaly, a rare bug or something. I doubt it has any more meaning than being a game mechanic. You are invulnerable when wearing the armor after all.

yea, they also appear red on my screen. I can however not interact with them in any way and they ignore me, too, completely
I don’t know if you noticed, but while in the Mursaat disguise you have no attack powers. The destroyers being nonhostile is a design decision so they can’t kill you while you’re effectively defenseless.
The destroyer was in there because Primordus had breached the chamber in order to abduct the dwarf, most likely in an effort to cause the destruction you’re trying to prevent. They’re not linked.
