Dear A-net.

I have owned and played this game from the very beginning.
But I’m really disappointed by the lack of new content.

When you guys stated you would release new content each month I was really excited and had hoped to see new areas added to the game. They don’t have to be lvl 80 areas. They can be 10-20, 20-40. It really doesn’t matter.

What you gave us were a lot of events and temporary stuff to do.
Sure there were some permanent addons such as Fractals for instance.
But those don’t cut it.

I recently logged into the game after 3-4 months of not playing and my map completion was still at a staggering 99%. I’m only missing 3 POI’s and 1 waypoint.
This makes me very sad.

I don’t see why you guys wouldn’t want to expand your current world.
It’s a great game and it looks beautiful. Just make it larger!

Imagine what the game would be like if you had added a new area every 2 months.
We’d have around 7 new areas by now. And I personally think you could add a new area each month if you would focus on areas instead of this other crap.

Just put it to the vote!

I would love to see some new explorable areas… but a new one every 2 months seems to be asking a lot. Just my opinion.

I mean we have received one new area since launch. I would love to see at least 1 or 2 more in the next 5 – 6 months.

Creating new zones, to the quality of the ones they made for release, takes time and a level of production ability that the company no longer has. Those zones were made over 5 years and they have steadily been losing veteran staff over the past 4.

It will take several years to rebuild to their 2007 glory, if they ever get there again.

I think that most people don’t care if the quality isn’t top notch.
They just want to see some new content and a few new monsters perhaps.

I don’t think we can expect a brand new area with fully voice-over implemented npc’s and new events. Just some new content to explore would be really nice.

I have mixed feelings about new zones. While, obviously, I enjoy new content, there’s also the problem of spreading the player population around too much, or in creating new zones that only drive the abandonment of old zones. It’s not a very attractive use of resources to develop new permanent zones frequently if they’re going to empty each other.

As with most things, it’s a balancing act, but it’s something to keep in mind when you wonder why new content isn’t always permanent, and why old content sometimes gets cycled out.

Here’s what I think Anet thinks about new zones: we don’t really use the zones we have. Why make new ones, when most people stick to frostgorge, orr, queensdale, and Lion’s Arch?

They said before that when they release new zones, they dont want it to end up like southsun.

I think once they figure out how to get people into already dead zones in the game (frost gorge would be dead if not for the champ farm, Orr has temples only keeping it barely alive) then they’d release new zones.

Here are my ideas that i’ve stated a lot on the forums.

1. Guild structures- #1 4th paragraph – https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/DEs-and-the-OW-How-2-Fix/first#post3160259

2. Make it so that all champions can only be spawned at the end of meta events/event chains and at the end of mini dungeons. Next put in a scaling system that is actually good to handle zergs and small fights. Then make it so that each champion drops a special skin. Trains are such a boring concept and don’t do well for the game in the long run. These skins that were awesome at release are cheap and don’t seem as special any more.

3. Increase difficulty of world bosses like tequatl. Put in a scaling system so you dont have to field 80 people to do it (looking at you dead tequatl). Also enforce players to interact with the world. Not just bunch them up. Siege weapons and defending them, defending supply lines to the forward lines, defenind NPCs and escorting them, etc. All this leads to the defeat of a boss. Some bosses can remain easy, like in the starter zones. At the same time put in better rewards like tequatl.

4. Make it so there are low to little timed spawnes of events and bosses. Watching timers is not fun, not immersive, and makes the game feel more like a job. Make it like zho qafa, modniir, or ogre wars. You actually have to interact with the world and do events to spawn the bosses/events.

5. Don’t mark everything on the map. Put in hidden mini dungeons, skill points, and monsters. Get players to actually get out there and look. So much more fun when you explore and you find a way into a secret area. So satsifying too. I spent hours at release doing the pirate JP in LA. Escorting people through it and being a guide. It was so much fun and I made so many friends.

I would much rather have a world as big as GW1 that is sparsely populated, than a densely populated world that retreads the same ground over and over. The latter would become depopulated anyways as people get bored and leave.

The reason Southsun is empty is the same reason Tequatl and the new Aetherblade TA path are abandoned: they’re too hard. I know there have been people claiming the game needs harder content, but they don’t speak for everyone, and I think evidence shows they don’t speak for most.

The problem has never been at the game is too easy, the problem is that it doesn’t scale so that what’s challenging for a Zerg is doable for solo players.

I agree with the original poster, Anet should be concentrating on (many) more permanent zones. If they absolutely have to keep the population density up, start merging servers.

Solution: Underflow servers.

Cmon, ANET. 50 people want to play events in Fields of Ruin, yet 12 servers divide us into only 4 people per server.

Simple. Math.

Underflow!!!!

I never thought about this and wonder if it is something that can be done.

But boy is that a great idea.

Seriously though. The issue isn’t a lack of people playing, but rather people being segregated.

Think of how many servers we have. Even if only 2 people in an area, that still adds up to about as many as 30 people in a single zone.

I really want to know why ANET hasn’t yet done an Underflow, or if they might ever consider yet?

Teehee! Most of the zones in the game are always desolate anyway so adding more won’t really matter. I think the reason for holding back more zones because they don’t want to divide the player base further is a really poor argument since they don’t even give players a reason to go to many of the zones after leveling anyway.

They should just take their time adding things. First, make the most out of what they have right now, then maybe give a happy surprise of a zone when they feel that it’s right. You can’t just force an infinite amount of content out of a game at once, you have to let it move at it’s own pace. Hell, most MMO games don’t even have a story as good as GW2, so expansions are a secondary add-on to me.

…Which would perfectly explain temporary zones (Tower of Nightmares, Crown Pavilion, etc.) and events like the clockwork invasions or toxic offshoots?

I’m not sure I understand the argument “It’s bad already, so it won’t really matter if we make it worse.” They seem to be trying to get the most player participation that they can out of areas by setting new events in existing ones, or making areas that are temporary, so they don’t distract from each other or end up empty. (Mad King’s Labyrinth being an example of an attempt that failed, Super Adventure Box being an attempt that’s working.)

A way to get people back into current zones would be having more than one event/content happen in multiple places at once. Currently they have the Tower of Nightmares which was in Kessex hills only, then now a new fractal. What would happen if they had multiple events happening across the world in the current zones? Towns getting seiged, events all over the place, but in multiple zones. Yeah it might take a couple months to set up, but in the mean time they could, I don’t know, work on the current state of the game. Thousands of players in thousands of threads keep asking for similar things yet I fail to see change implemented by the game designers.

I totally agree that instead of expanding the current living story they need to get more people in the various zones by making them interesting again.

Sorry if my post is all over the place I’m currently watching the Blackhawks v. Wild game. Go Hawks!

Make an entire Underworld beneath every map of Orr, with caves and traps above that drop you down into the Underworld..

Come onnn.. it’s only 5-6 new maps, right? :-P

Oh and make it Mines of Moria style with ridiculous stairwell and cavernous architecture everywhere. Not asking much, really

24 servers. Let’s say 2 people in a single zone, on every server.

That’s 48 people with an underflow. Huge difference from 2!

I’ve been begging for new explorables since release. I can’t wait till they abandon this Living Story release schedule, and just focus on lasting content of good quality (rather than rushed buggy content that goes away after a few weeks).

What do want from new areas? Do you want another low level zone like Queensdale where low level characters can do quests, given there are five low level zones already? Do you want another beautiful zone like timberline falls, given that nobody will go to since the personal story will still players into timberline? Do you want another zone like Orr with end game event chains, and if so wouldn’t it just be better if Orr was revamped to give three better endgame zones? Do you want another island like Southsun with all that’s expected of a traditional zone except any players there? A zone has to have a purpose so just asking for zones for the sake of having zones is going to get nowhere.

I’d want Zones designed for Guild Bases, preferably 4-5 of them, each with a design layout and thematic fitting one of each playable race. Allow players to build up guild bases and unlock/purchase events. As an example, you can earn the right for a Celebration event to occur at or near your guild base three times a day. Maybe change the weather or add new bits and pieces to it or something.
