With the arrival of new zones, will there now be more to do to obtain the “Been there, done that” title or will they not count towards it like South Sun? I would prefer a dev answer over player speculation.

I remember reading somewhere a long time ago that the devs said there won’t be new heart events, so the requirements for “been there, done that” and the legendary crafting material coming with it won’t change.

This, however seals the fate of the new content forever, because unless they figure out something to fill the (FINALLY) expanding world with life, it’s all going to be like the karka island. A boring, lifeless pile of sand and rocks nobody cares about at all, unless the boss timer is about to reach zero.

A quick hint for ANet: we have golden colored hearts for “heart events”, right? How about add green colored hearts? That’s it. Works exactly the same way as it always worked, just independent from world completition.

Good luck with that. I imagine that it will depend upon what we get in the maps. If there are vistas in addition to Points of Interest, I think it may contribute. If there are renown hearts (which is unlikely), it will almost certainly contribute.

I expect any new zones to be in the mold of Southsun, however, so I will go ahead and speculate mindlessly that a new zone won’t count.

@SaltyDave A lack of heart quest in SouthSun is not why that zone was so dead before it was partially revitalized with guild rush, challenge and Karka Queen loot buff. The reason it was dead was because the events there were not profitable. Also the mobs there are somewhat tougher than other places so farming was better in other zones. Follow the money, and You’ll find the popular zones. Now, they have sorta boosted the loot from Karka Queen and guess what, people go there once a day to kill her just like Teq in sparkfly.

If they dont give the new zones fun events or a way to make them profitable, guess what they will be dead too, but it wont be for a lack of those foolish heart quests.

No. Somewhere buried in the forums from 13-16 months ago it was said that map completion will only be the map from the original release. You don’t need EotM for map completion but need the 4 WvW maps, so you won’t need any new zones opened in Maguuma. I think it was around the time Assassin X says he lost his gold star- that caused an excrement storm here on the forums.

To be honest, a map doesn’t need hearts to be eligible for map completion. Take Orr for example. Orr has literally zero renown hearts. It still counts for map completion though as POIs, skill points, and vistas still exist there.

As far as I am aware, hearts were merely meant to be mechanics through which to introduce people otherwise unfamiliar with the dynamic event system to the game. Otherwise known as the people who play World of Warcraft, EverQuest 2 or any other traditional mmo with normal quest systems.

So when they say “no heart quests” they’re referring to the fact that heart quests weren’t even originally meant to be in the game, they were only added late in development to introduce people to the dynamic event system. There very well might still be map completion involved, it would just simply work the way Orr does, where Orr is what the entire world (in terms of map completion) was originally supposed to be like.
