No Lion's Arch Fountain
The last statement we sadly had was:
“It has been removed for good, we will see it coming back as Trophies for Tournaments.”
So yeah, this important piece of recent LA history has been removed in favour of an open place (seriously, what do you see now when you enter the city from the asura gates? Nothing, but weird See Creatures and open space).
The symbol of the city and all its meanign is one for good and we only got a sad tucked away replacement on the Heart of the Mists portal.
so the question now is, should it still be called lions arch or something else?
it has nothing to do with LA, not one single bit, even the smallest single prove of it’s origin is destroyed ether by the rebuild or by scarlet.
call it stillwater or something, don’t use a popular name and have a city that has nothing to do with anything the name suggests.
The original city was founded by Elonians who had Lions. To them, it was a reminder of home. After the city was destroyed, the people kittenettled it much much later had no real connection to the original rulers of the city. They were pirates and sailors. That history is long behind them.
It doesn’t really surprise me that the Captain’s Council elected to choose their own identity rather than an identity that was further removed.
Of course, the original Lions are still there, underwater.

some original building pieces of new amsterdam is still in new york but despite that, it’s still called new york……
Worse decision ever. I remember a comment from the designer of the fountain some years ago. His comment was made after the fountain was first destroyed. I cannot find the exact words, but he stated it took a huge amount of time and effort to make the fountain work properly and how he really hoped it wasn’t all for nothing.
I’ll leave it at that.

Eh? What does the fountain have to do with that?
The entrance to the city is still an arch with lions adorned on it. I think that’s about as literal as they could possibly be…
the lion is still in lion arch but it has been moved to the fractal gate an stands right above!
there is a couple other lions in lions arch yet also! next time an elonian comes to la ask them about it or the zephyrites?
To tell the truth I’m happy for such development. It always looked too cheesy form me to be symbol of LA.

The conversation with Linsay Morell in the Personal Story mission Setting the Stage shows that the fountain is a symbol of all the races coming together and why there is no reason to remove it.
Thank you for posting that, Tuskin. Seriously, they need to bring the fountain back.

That’s true, doesn’t change a thing about what I’ve said. New people really havent’ taken over New York in the last 200 years, as far as I know. The people who took it over 200 years ago, the same government still runs it.
Lion’s Arch has changed governments completely.

I remember that. He said it took over 100 hours of his free time to make it. It is a shame to get rid of one of the most detailed structures of the game
and it was so pretty and relaxing to watch the water jumping from fish to fish

It actually had even the sound synced, which was something I was really amazed with as I noticed it.
Having the the water jump from fish to fish….

The Community barely had anything to do with recreating Lion’s Arch other then voting on pre made names for the points of interest in the city. Also the name of the point of interest where the Lion Statue and fountain used to be didn’t change. The Community voted to keep its original name, “The Grand Piazza.”
As far as I know there are no polls on wether or not to remove the Lion Statue and fountain or change anything about the city other than points of interest names.
My guess is that they figured out that thing was a giant bad guy magnet
Think about it. Every time someone attacked LA, what was the first casualty?
Also, personal story instances now redirect to old LA. I was quite suprised leveling an alt the other day to meet destiny’s edge in pre-war LA. I think maybe they should add some sort of text to tell players that those instances are historical. I could see how a new player would get really confused.

then again, old LA (in GW1) never had that problem, maybe it’s time they make a huge dam and suck the river dry, we need LA back.
One of the name options said in parentheses that the statue would be back, implying that the other option didn’t have the statue.
We voted for the option without the parentheses, and now it is gone.

There was? Urgh, never have seen that.

we voted different then what the other we did, you base the votes on popular ones, not what everyone voted.
also, there should’ve never be an option to remove the statue, LA is not LA without it’s symbol just as old LA is not LA without it’s fountain.
Glad im not the only one, it was the one reason i came to LA when it was fixed..now..i dont go there at all. It looks nice, but its empty. Its hollow, to me at least. That statue was super important as a symbol of unity, and i fail to see why it couldnt be placed in the big empty space that nobody uses.
I like Lion’s Arch development. It still feels rather unfinished, though, like everything is still just in rough-cast concrete without much in the way of surface decoration.
But I do miss the old lion statue. Would be nice if it made a surprise reappearance. I’m not holding my breath.
I loved the statue and fountain. I remember the first time I made it to Lion’s Arch, as a super low level, braving the hazardous road from Divinity’s Reach just to see the new LA, and upon finding the Lion’s Court, just watched in amazement all the working parts of the fountain, with the shooting water streams and boat-go-round … I wish they had commissioned some crazy Krytan architect to resurrect that piece. I loved it.
Clearly next enemy is the Consortium.
