Oh god no...
What is it that makes you think she’ll return?
- ANet have stated that she is dead and gone, but that we will experience the impact of her actions in season 2. We will learn some more about her, but she’ll remain dead, that much has already been confirmed.

In what way do the teaser even slightly suggest that Scarlet is coming back?
I have checked it rather many times but I see a grand total of zero indications that it have anything at all to (directly) do with Scarlet.

Even worse, Trahearne might come back. The new trailer shows the Pact getting attacked in Timberline Falls.
This whinarium is hilarious =D
The reasons I’m fearing this is because of 2 things:
-The fact that there’s been talk about mind and magic linking in some way. Her death could have been intentional to somehow link with the leylines or (even worse) the dragon.
-The device she designed was actually built. Those vines could be controlled by something…maybe she even intended to take over control of other Sylvari through influencing the dream.
I hope I’m wrong. I hope that Scarlet will not come back.
I hope she does come back. Scarlet isn’t a bad character at all. She was just delivered very poorly, which setup a bunch of amateur analysts to post their favorite TVtropes against her and call that criticism. It was revealing and embarrassing.
Anyway, instead of Scarlet, we’re stuck with the biconics, any of which I could do without other than Taimi. Because she, like Scarlet, is actually interesting and entertaining.
I see I wasn’t the only person to have that thought. Was it the description of the coffin with vines, that giant “mausoleum” in the trailer, and the similarity to Apocalypse’s (from the Marvel universe) immortality chamber that brought it on?
I also had the distinct feeling that we’ll fight our way to that chamber, it opens, and out steps Scarlet, with her little cackle. “Hello, everyone! I’M BAAAAAACK!”

Yeah, I was half tempted one time to make a TVTROPES account just to fix the GW2 page blaming Traehearne for stealing all the credit from personal story.

I’m still amazed that there are people that actually think she’s a well written character. People like the Power Rangers, and I did so too for a while back when I was little. But let’s not get into that.
My main issue is that, out of nowhere, there’s a character that can literally do everything, and although the story keeps insisting we thwarted her, the voice acting never made me feel like we did anything to her at all. At best it felt like the ‘good guys’ were trying to convince themselves.
The only thing at this point that would make her more ‘mary sue’ is if she took over an elder dragon, or the pale tree, or some variation on that.
looks like to me those vines we see on our way in dry top i was wondering about them eventually blossom

She might not be epicly written, but she isn’t as bad as many say.
For example, some like to exaggerate her backstory.

During Clockwork chaos when Vorpp quickly reverse engineers her shield to let us through in scarlet’s funhouse:
Emissary Vorpp: "Engineering prodigy,“ they said. “Intuitive grasp of phenomenological design and transcendent systems.“ Pfah, I say. Pfah!
Scarlet was a prodigee sure but no where near as perfect as people make her out to be.
I liked Scarlet and I hope she’ll come back. Would that be the best writing ever? Probably not, but would I care? Nope.
It’s a game. As long as the story’s engaging I don’t care if it’s not Shakespeare.
Wow, how the heck did you get Scarlet from that teaser video? Some big vines and the words “Evil grows”? Man, talk about jumping to conclusions.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
Scarlet was a prodigy sure but no where near as perfect as people make her out to be.
Well even Taimi remarks about how simple the Steambull’s head is when you get to enter Scarlet’s little cubby in Dry Top.

I believe it’s been confirmed that Scarlet is dead. Gone. Poof. Bye bye. She still has impact through the history of her actions and their ripple effect on the world, but she, herself, is gone.

As long as Scarlet won’t return (in any form, even the hologram is borderline too much) then I’m satisfied. But seeing as how she’s ArenaNet’s pet (the initial backstory that described her as a model student in 3 colleges wasn’t an accident), I fear the worst. I’d happy to be proven wrong. :-)

Yup, and it’s not even a very good criticism for bad writing, especially for a video game. She was a genius to make her a credible threat. Scarlet’s genius not only explains how she did what she did, but also how she got to where she is. There’s a lot of valid criticisms for Scarlet as a villain, but this is a weak one.
I suspect that many of the people who don’t like Scarlet do like Shiro. They can’t distinguish the difference between story quality and their own preferences, which are 90% of the story complaints.

So, you mean like Moriarty. Suddenly a guy who is as good as Holmes who was never in any stories except the one he killed Holmes off in.
Calys, that’s different. Arthur Conan Doyle did it because he HATED writing Sherlock Holmes and wanted a way to end it. Also, in effectively every adaptation with a Moriarty he’s shown somewhere near the beginning as a perfect counterpart to the detective and usually a very well written one at that.
We impaled her a looooot times. No way she is coming back

I know. He wrote in Moriarty specifically to kill Sherlock off, but that doesn’t mean that Moriarty isn’t a terrible character that came out of nowhere after years of establishing Holmes as the most brilliant mind in Europe.
Scarlet is dead and gone but not forgotten.
However, Season 1 been pushing that Scarlet was only the first Sylvari to fall into this madness and more Sylvari will end up like her in Season 2.
That why I wasn’t surprised about Aerin since S1 had plenty of hints S2 will involve Sylvaris falling into the same Madness that consumed Scarlet. Only issue was that we won’t know what this madness is until later in the S2 Storyline.
I’m ok with the Sylvari being a big focus, it’s the jungle dragon. Just don’t throw the Sylvari at Jormag, Prim, Kral, etc.

So, you mean like Moriarty. Suddenly a guy who is as good as Holmes who was never in any stories except the one he killed Holmes off in.
Where did I ever say I was a fan of Sherlock Holmes?
I used to play on a role-playing server in World of Warcraft. If there’d been a roleplayer that came up with a background story like Scarlet’s, he/she would have been laughed at and told to go back to google and read up on how to create a good character backstory. The people that came up with Scarlet call themselves writers, so they should know better.
At least Sherlock Holmes’ writer knew what he was doing, and why he was doing it. Anet’s writing team actually thought that they created an awesome character, and they’re still trying to convince us that they were right all along.

One wonders just how much of LS2 will consist of content trying to retro fix LS1. How many secret rooms will it take? How many more things will Scarlet take credit for?
Journal Entry. I’ve given up the idea of influencing politics. Caudecus is too cautious, too slow. However, I’m convinced that the bandit and pirate forces could be used more directly and effectively, given the right technology.

Did we chop her body to bits, then burn it to ashes?
Did we throw her ashes in the Mystic Forge?
Would we like a new sexy corruption called the Queen of the Blades?

What I’ve heard od WoW rping communities is they tended to scorn and laugh at ANYTHING outside the box. Half-elf? BAD CHARACTER. Troll from a clan other then the horde one or two? BAD CHARACTEr. etc.
Also, given how Sylvari wake up fully grown and WITH the knowledge of their class for the most part (basics at least)… It fits. Besides, those that only glanced at her backstory thought she learned everything. The officially backstory explicitly said she didn’t learn all that she could have with each race. Norn and Charr both had much, much more to teach her. Asura gave her ONE class of work (Or one semester, something like that). Basically, she did (going by a two semester systen like the high school I went to had…), a grand total of half the freshmen year. For each collage. Hylek we don’t really know how much she learned or what she still had to learn from them. She didn’t just magically know all this kitten after waking up, she spent something like… 16 years studying and exploring before becoming Scarlet.
Then there is the fact she got her mind slowly controlled by another being, one which is implied to ALSO been a factor in a lot of her stuff.
Scarlet Briar: Ever since I came out of Omadd’s machine, you’ve been taking credit for my ideas. They are mine! Not yours.
Scarlet Briar: Let me be clear. I’m not doing this for you; I’m doing it for me. Nobody tells me what to do. Not ever.
Scarlet Briar: It’s not true. None of it. I don’t have to listen to you. Get out of my head!
Who says a chunk of what she did as SCARLET wasn’t also because of Mordi or the other ‘voice’ in her head?
Even worse, Trahearne might come back. The new trailer shows the Pact getting attacked in Timberline Falls.
Technically speaking, Fort Concordia was never used for Pact actions – it was one of two bases for an alliance between Vigil and Priory before the Pact’s creation, and was used for the first Pact meeting, but even though dialogues change after Forging the Pact instance, there’s no indication that Concordia is used by the Pact.
-The fact that there’s been talk about mind and magic linking in some way. Her death could have been intentional to somehow link with the leylines or (even worse) the dragon.
This would mean that Snaff is still “alive” inside Kralkatorrik’s brain if such a thing were possible.
Which by all indications, it isn’t. The book that talks about that is more in regards to things like mental control as Snaff shows done in Edge of Destiny – as well as the asura personal story for Dynamics.
-The device she designed was actually built. Those vines could be controlled by something…maybe she even intended to take over control of other Sylvari through influencing the dream.
Doesn’t mean she can return just because some device of unknown intention was built.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

She said she just reached her 16th “season”. I might be wrong in my sylvari calendar, but I think that might actually place her at 4 years old (spring being 1 season, summer being 2…) at the time of that journal entry. At the same time, I don’t remember if we heard how long after that she became Scarlet Briar, and plotted all her little schemes.
As for the voice in her head, I would place bets on that being Mordremoth. Perhaps sylvari aren’t corruptable by Zhaitan, but I bet they are easy prey for a plant-based dragon. Especially as Taimi compares suddenly being evil to the Branded.
She said cycle, not season.

I actually liked the hologram transition from Ceara to Scarlett more than I liked her (as a character) when she was alive. I’m thinking had they done that right after the Queen’s Jubilee (or pieces of it), it would have worked a little better in establishing the character (vs. some short story post).

Funny. The server I was on was usually very tolerant. Unless you pretended to be a new, better lich king, with powers of the light. Or a Scarlet.

Besides, those that only glanced at her backstory thought she learned everything. The officially backstory explicitly said she didn’t learn all that she could have with each race.
Like you say, the basics. The first official backstory was that she graduated from all 3 colleges. Only later was it fixed. And that still doesn’t explain the dozens of other, unrealistic things she pulled (wherever she got all the metal for the marionette or her armies is still vague).
Then there is the fact she got her mind slowly controlled by another being, one which is implied to ALSO been a factor in a lot of her stuff.
This was actually the first moment she finally became somewhat bareable. But it’s also a pretty cliché excuse to overpower your characters.

Snaff controlled the dragon’s mind, briefly, and was still physical. There was no mega chunk of magical energy involved.
Scarlet died on the biggest leyline intersection in the world, and something directly linked to the dragon. The movie showed energy going through her body too.
There’s even a book in the new release that suggests ghosts are some form of energy residue. They’re setting her up to attack the Pale Tree in the form of the dragon. I just know it.

You pretend to kill Caithe. At that personal story step, you’re an inexperienced novice and she’s an elite thief. She fakes her death. It’s a plot point in that storyline.

- Snaff’s entire mind was inside Kralkatorrik’s mind, and there was a mega chunk of magical energy involved: Kralkatorrik and his blood that served as powerstones.
- A major intersection, not biggest. And in continental Tyria, not Tyria the world.
- By all evidences, sylvari have neither souls nor ghosts. We never see such at least, despite the huge amount of sylvari deaths – even the sylvari don’t know what happens to them when they die, as one can hear in ambient dialogue in the Grove near the cultural armor traders. And the implications that ghosts are energy has been around since GW1, tbh.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

After eight years of voracious study in the Grove, Ceara had learned all she cared to from her extended family. Her people were accomplished hands at many key disciplines, but they couldn’t provide the depth of knowledge she craved. She wanted to construct systems as complex as the ones she saw in nature, to build machines as sublime as the living things she saw each and every day.
She impressed a grizzled old bear of a norn named Beigarth with her interest and energy, and on his invitation spent a long winter as his pupil, apprentice, and forge-tender. When spring came, she announced her intentions to move on, having learned all she needed to know. Beigarth tried to dissuade her, eager to pass along the full slate of his smithing knowledge to such a unique and promising student, but she left him with a wave and a breezy smile.
Next she spent two years with a gladium named Asagai, late of the Iron Legion. An expert sniper and demolitionist, Asagai could tell by feel if a firearm was not assembled properly, and correct a misaligned site on a field gun just by listening to the sound of its thunder.
She completed the Dynamics coursework in under a year as the highest-ranked student in her class. Chagrined, the councilors give her the same opportunity in Statics. When she achieved similar results in a similar time frame, they were intrigued enough to see if she could do the same with Synergetics.
So, why would she be able to ‘graduate’ a college, in a year, that Asura spend basically teenager to adulthood learning in? Infact, it never says she graduated at all. It simply said she completed the coursework. I complete the algebra coursework as highest ranked in my class, does that mean I graduated math?
I miss her cacti pigtails.
you can get it now as new hair style
Don’t forget in GW world there’re ghosts and Mist. It can be very likely that durman priory could have summon Scarlet’s spirit back to Tyria to jack information from her.
It’ is also very likely that the Jungle Dragon could have turn her into his champion and fight us once more., consider how much connection she and the Jungle Dragon are.
I’m ok with the Sylvari being a big focus, it’s the jungle dragon. Just don’t throw the Sylvari at Jormag, Prim, Kral, etc.
Well, no, we should throw them at those others, primarily because they’re still good for fighting.
Besides, I know for a fact this is only going to be solved thanks to asura tech anyway, so why are people afraid the sylvari are going to steal the spotlight?

We don’t know what happens when a Sylvari die though.
Another thing to keep in mind is that we saw no Norn, Charr or Asura in the Mists (and the Charr hit by the Foefire outright died, while the Humans become ghosts, which might suggest that Ghosts is a strictly Human condition).
