On Horses....
I’d like to see skritt riding horses.
Because Skritt are smaller than other races? That would be cruel to the players!
We need skinny Horses(that look like Kirin AKA Spirit Priests in the form of Horses down to the single horn on their heads) not mounts!
PS: They should also be green….

Actually there are horses in lore as well as Kirin.
The Kirin were specific to Cantha, but Tyria does have horses – we just don’t see them in game.
The novel Destiny’s Edge makes specific mention of the main characters coming across a field of wild horses.
They’re mentioned in game in GW1 in a couple of instances, and the Necrid Horsemen (undead horsemen) in GW1 are riding skeletal horses. There have also been horses in GW2 concept art.
Also in GW1 the Kirin are actually pretty large, I think you could possibly ride one – but I don’t think they would ever let you. They were intelligent beings and they were also specifically protectors of the land, so it’s doubtful that they’d even let you see them unless they wanted you to.

Technically they only see it via an Asura gate, and we have no idea where it is. It is quite unlikely that it is on Tyria (the continent, not the planet).

Horses of Cantha(Canthan New Years shows them as looking just like Kirin) are large yes but way too skinny.
Their build is clearly not suited for riding on….
Furthermore Kirin are spirit priests in horse form so obviously horses would look just like them(the ones in Canthan New Years most certainly did).
Mickey that is incorrect. Horses and Kirin are two distinct things, and we know both to exist.
The fact that Kirin are spirit monks doesn’t tell us a whole lot – and nowhere is it stated that they are in “horse form”. The fact that the Celestial Horse uses the Kirin model doesn’t tell us anything at all – there was no horse model in game which required them to use an existing model that was close enough – you will notice also that the celestial horse used in Canthan New Year is sightly modified as it does not have the Kirin’s horn.
Also we KNOW that horses exist in Tyria (continent) because, as I said earlier, there were Necrid Horsemen who rode skeletal horses. Horses, not Kirin.
Lordkrall, you’re right we have no idea where they saw those horses, but it was on the planet of Tyria and it is actually rather likely that it was somewhere on continental Tyria – just not necessarily anywhere we have access to. Otherwise the Asura have an awful lot of explaining to do. I’d also love to know how they burrowed beneath the ocean and have no recollection of their people ever doing so?
So we KNOW that horses exist, we just can’t be certain there are any on Tyria – though we know that at one point there were. We also know that they can be, and were, ridden. We can reasonably assume from the sole use of Dolyack as pack animals that horses don’t exist in large numbers. It’s entirely possible that they were native to Orr.
Though at some point they were found in Kryta, since we have information about someone having a horse during the reign of Mad King Thorn.

I asked about why we didn’t see any horses in the game in that Dolyak Express thread the devs started a few months ago, but I’m assuming that because they didn’t answer it, the question was a Spoiler Request, No Comment, Which is disappointing as that was a perfect time to explain why there are no horses in Guild Wars 2, but since Anet wants this to be Game of Thrones were we do more guessing than actually reading the book or watching the show (or in this case, playing the game)….Oh well….I bet we’ll never know….
Actually it’s been explained before I think. You have to remember that the animals we see in game are only a representation of a tiny number of the animals that are actually in that particular place in the world. If all that was there was what we can see then the ecosystem wouldn’t make any sense at all.
Also with Dolyak Express, they got a LOT of questions and there was no way they could answer anywhere near all of them. So it doesn’t mean they specifically didnt want to comment on it, it’s just that there were other questions they wanted to answer.
My own fanon is that horses are extincted/Chars ate them all Or maybe as people of Tyria use Dolyaks so maybe horses were not as useful and nobody bothered to domesticate them?

Your second suggestion probably isn’t that far off.
Dolyaks see widespread usage in Tyria – it seems as though Orr was the only nation to use domesticated horses – most likely because Dolyak’s didn’t make sense in the warmer climate.
I theorize that if you shaved a dolyak you would be left with a funny looking horse.
It could be that, at one time, humanity did ride horses. Perhaps the majority of domesticated horses died off in warfare, or became the mounts of undead minions. Or perhaps they were unsuitable for crossing the Shiverpeaks, and dolyaks were a more efficient creature overall. It could be both of these things. So horses in Tyria could currently be a wild animal, like a deer, who no one is interested in domesticating.
Plus, the other four races wouldn’t use horses. The norn and charr are too large—they need hardier animals to carry supplies (dolyaks and cows) and to ride (giant devourers). The asura are too small, and golems are far better anyway. And the sylvari have mosshearts, plus access to the pack animals of other races if they desire.
The horses in CNY looked like Kirin because that was the closest thing to a horse model they could find with no artists left working on GW1.
Would be great to get mounts. I don’t exactly prefer “this horse runs faster than this horse”, but rather cosmetic horses.
Can be mount but definitely not horse. Dolyak or even jet-pack Dolyak, oversized Moa and such but not horse please.
No on mounts. Just No. Go back to WoW.
What, the broomstick in the Gem Store isn’t good enough for ya? ;-)
