Open world vs Instances
I pretty much wish we could’ve had F+F’s storytelling with SoSC’s style of events. My biggest gripe with F+F was the fact that in spite of everything, I felt like no serious invasion ever occurred, even though I played quite a bit in those zones. What events it had weren’t bad, but they were less significant ‘battles’ than loads of permanent events, including some specific to flame legion or dredge, and even (at least) one storyline instance. When the two forces combine and the result is less than what they were in the first place, it’s not very driving.
to tell the truth i liked parts of both. i liked how most of southsun was out there right in your face but didnt mind doing the instance stuff of f and f. i preferred the dungeon that happened at the end more then i did this canach and null stuff. i loved in the southsun you had to do the achievements but how easy most were. one thing i hated about the f and f stuff was the end achievement how we waited for 2 weeks just for a world buff. no cutscene no nothing but the buff. they should have just given that out at end of dungeon and made the buff 24 hours.
To clarify when I said storyline before I meant a racial one; once you get to the order missions those little ‘kill guys at portal’ or ‘defend some shacks’ events are dwarfed in scope quite frequently.
I like both, but prefer open world stuff as it readily affects the world instead of being segmented off in a new zone. If ANet wants more “replayable” storylines though as some people are asking then they should lean more towards instanced quests.
