PSA: Save Mordrem Parts Bags til next update
^ This is good advice.
However, since I’m currently farming lots of Bandit Crests to buy the blasted Boots anyway, opening the bags now either results in useful parts, or stuff that I just turn back in to get 25 Crests anyway. So, it’s not really a waste. The above is still very good advice, but I just thought I’d point out that opening the bags immediately also has an upside.
All of the other armor pieces will still be available the next patch though. All that opening them now does is remove the possibility of getting the parts from the next episode and having to re-farm them. You’re not missing out on anything by waiting unless you need the skin now.
It’s whatever peoples’ priorities are. There not really a wrong way.
See, this right here is why I’m a terrible farmer. Something like this seems so simple, and yet I’d never think of it that way.
On a similar vein don’t use your greater nightmare keys either, since the chest has a chance of dropping an armor box.
if the game is as popular as ppl say it is then you can get the armor after 3 years too, no need for haste.

At least you can learn from this. If we analyse the Living World a bit, it looks like they’ll be adding a map, slowly expanding on it over 4 releases, and keeping a reason for you to keep playing that content for as long as possible. With Dry Top it was Ambrite skins, I guess. With Silverwastes it’s RNG mordrem parts for the Luminescent skins. Skins which are, from my perspective, not as nice as their non-luminescent counterparts.
I’m not saying this practice is bad, on the contrary…if it keeps people wanting to play in an area for a long time, then great. If they do not implement content like this then the zones risk dying out as soon as the next living world map area comes along. The real test will be 1-2 years from now. Will people still be in Dry Top trying to grind out their Ambrite skins? If they are, and Tier 4 Sandstorms are still a common occurrence, then perhaps the new Living World maps are a success.
I’ve been stockpiling the unidentified parts like mad since the end of Echoes of the Past, and will continue to over Wintersday. It’d be nice to have around 30-40 of each type ready to identify when the final armour parts are revealed.
I also have another suspicion. This “rare gland” that occasionally drops. Calling it now… it’ll be a material for something…perhaps a new weapon set. That gland that, since November, everyone’s been happily exchanging for 50 crests. Hmmmmm.
ArenaNet rule 1. Stockpile EVERYTHING.

This seems like a good idea. I’m going to try for 10 of each part before the next release. I already have 10 troll bags and 8 tormenter bags, i’m still opening teragriff bags since I need one more bladder piece still.
Luckily the gland and the heart are not specific to the kill, they are just generic, so at worst we will just need one of each.
I went ahead and farmed so that I had 25 of each, saved 8k crests, plus I saved all of the nightmare keys that I got for successful completion. This should be more than enough to eliminate any further grinding next episode.

Depends how many “pieces” the mordrem item for the Chest piece will be broken down into!
Well, we’ll be waiting till Jan 13th for the next one. :/ I’m just going to go ahead and open bags in the meantime until I complete the Leggings/Boots, but any spares after that I’ll go ahead and save.

True. Hopefully they won’t try to make it any worse than needing two pieces to complete a part.
That’s a good point. Considering that Chest pieces are weighted as being more “important/expensive” than other pieces (as Leggings was), it’s quite possible that the Chest piece will require 3 parts (Heart? Stomach? Brain?) as compared to the others.
I’m only spending as much time as I need to get the crests. If I get the parts within that time, awesome. If I don’t, I’ll get them with the specific extractor.
Overall, it won’t make much difference.

Then.. suddenly.. Arenanet decides to lower the droprates and add more RNG during the last LS.
Speculation even if its marginal, is still speculation.

Well the drop rates will be lower as now you’d be trying to get two new parts instead of the already existing four parts. This was the basis of why I was suggesting to just save the parts bags until the next episode. The effect of RNG can be increased by requiring more pieces like they did with the bladder. However, this doesn’t mean that hoarding parts bags is a waste of time as you’d have to open them anyway after the next episode is released.
I see one flaw in your plan, the update isn’t going to change what parts you have already extracted…so most likely it’s not going to help any.
No, Ayrilana is talking about keeping the BAGS you get from the Mordrem champs with the Extractor. (The ones named “Mordrem Thrasher Parts Bag”.) Their loot table gets updated with each new LS chapter, even though it’s the same bag. So by saving them all up and opening them after Chapter 8 is released, you decrease the chance of getting “wasted” parts that you already have.
Of course, if you’re someone like me and you’re partly farming the Champs in order to get parts which you then turn in for extra Bandit Crests, then no parts are really “wasted”.

I know exactly which bags she was talking about, and yes, the loot table may be updated, which would only activate when you open the bags. I get it, if that’s how it works, suppose it doesn’t work that way, and it works on some other method we aren’t aware of and the part is already assigned to the bag, then it would not matter whether you wait or not. I’m more like you, I just turn then in for the crests, though I honestly can’t fathom why since I’m not really trying for the Luminescent armor parts(I’ll probably end up with 9/10 items for all of them except two, presuming they allow you to buy one of the Ascended items like this last bunch).

It works as it’s been tested on bags from the episode before this one. The bag would also likely have a different item code than the others if there was a different loot table.
I’m just waiting on the parts. I haven’t been in the silverwastes for a few days now. I will probably go back once we get the next set of guaranteed extractors, finish those, and then wait again. I’m kicking myself for using greater nightmare keys instead of saving them.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the Silverwastes changed drastically at some point in the Living Story. If it does then the Mordrem Extraction will still probably be there but it might not be like it is now. Just a note of caution for everyone who is expecting things to remain as they are now.

They have not changed the basic function of any map, just appearance.
Well i’m up to 10 of each bag, and 20 nightmare keys. Looks like we have a lot longer to collect than I thought.I guess i’ll go for 30 of each bag before the update and 50 keys, that should insure I get about 90% of what I need. If they throw a curve-ball and it needs something completely different, then oh well, I will have enough crests to buy everything off the vendor and get ~50 rares.
Before Seeds of Truth, I had 4-6 of each part and ended up getting all 4 spleens and 1 full bladder from it. Made the rest of the RNG more bearable.
Before the next episode, I’m aiming for 10-15 of each, in the hopes of getting all of the mordrem parts without having to fight bosses. 6k Crests would also be a nice thing to farm ahead of time.
They don’t stack, so unless you have lots of spare inventory space and don’t mind tying It up for a full month, I’d recommend against this.
If they don’t stack, then how do I have 30 Extracted Modrem Husk Parts, in one inventory slot?

Please verify first next time.
