The one where you get the chest piece?

I haven’t done much of anything in Silverwastes, save the story, some exploring, the jump puzzle. Haven’t spent much time with the achievements, per se (like I did with Dry Top), and have stumbled through a few events, but never really learned how to do it.

But now I’m at a point where I’d like to participate in (presumably) this but not really sure how to get started? I’m standing around where I think it might start, but I don’t know when it starts, and now I’m thinking that people might be ferrying people to special instances for it, and I don’t really know where to start or how to get involved.

I tried looking at the LFG tool, but honestly, other than maybe joining a fractal once or twice, I never was comfortable using it, or learned the etiquette of when to advertise, what to join, all the acronyms, etc.

Any help would be appreciated.

Okay, basically it works the following way:

1) You see a big bar on top right representing the state of your current map. You want the bar to get full to start some mighty events.

2) The bar is filled by certain events – there are four outposts (red, yellow, indigo, blue) you have to defend, a bit like in WvW – everytime a defending event is over, the bar gets filled a bit.

3) When the bar is full, “The Breach” begins. You have five minutes to kill four bosses – one under each outpost. Each boss works differently: On yellow (troll), you can focus on damage while avoiding his aoes. On red (husk), it is often said that you should avoid using aoes because the adds killed by that would heal the husk. Blue (thrasher) ports around sometimes but is not too hard. Indigo (two terragriffs) have bubbles that can be destroyed when a terragriff is nearby to stop them, so you can attack it.

4) After each Breach, independent from how good your map was, the new 3-lane-event Vinewrath starts after some minutes.

5) This event has two phases: a) while outside, on the three lanes, you have to defend an NPC that tries to open the walls to the boss. b) one lane can enter the boss room to fight one of 3 champs.
It has a certain pattern: The south lane is the first to enter and they have to fight a troll. Next one is middle and then north and then again at south, middle, north… and so on, until all three champs are killed. When a group can’t kill a boss within time, the next lane has to fight against that same boss, until the boss dies (hope that was understandable). The three bosses in that order are troll, thrasher, terragriff.

6) If 15 of the NPCs outside are dead, the event fails. Whenever a group can’t kill their boss in time, the active 3 NPCs get killed, so you can all in all screw up four fights and still finish the event. After all three champions are dead, you get your loot.

7) All groups outside still have to defend, when they’re not in the boss room – otherwise the NPCs die too fast!

Thanks.

The map I’m on seems a bit dead, not a lot of talking, I don’t see any commander tags running around, etc.

How do I get to a map where something is going on? Is there a socially agreed upon name of a group that someone might be using in the LFG tool under one of the categories? Someone manage a web site with sign ups? Anything like that?

Well, the problem is – most players leave the map after Vinewrath. This results in near-empty maps where you most likely will land when you enter the map.
a) you wait till some players get the courage to capture the outposts and fill the bar, little by little. Very frustrating.
b) you look in the LFG system for groups like “SW XX%” (saying the current bar fill progress for their silver wastes). Those groups fill pretty fast!

Once you’re in a map with bar filled >50%, it will get rather fast, because many players will taxi in and help on the events.

I saw those, but didn’t know what they meant. Thank you!

But but, you forget part 8, the Labyrinth! Anet goes Pacman, or something. It opens up after the Vinewrath event, and Before the whole map resets to start the cycle over again.

Personally I love chasing pods in the Labyrinth but judging from me often being solo in the Labyrinth I think most players disagree :-)

Don’t forget to escort the pack bulls to the forts. They bring supplies that upgrade the defenses, and few things are more fun than raining arrows from an arrowcart onto a distant clump of Mordrem and watching them crumple. Not to mention if there is a rebuild-walls event, you get credit for using the siege weapons to suppress the Mordrem harassing the supply officer and rubble gatherers. (Now I’ll never get a chance at using the siege during the rubble event, oh well )

It doesn’t take many to hold a fortress, since the events scale. I’ve successfully defended Amber with just two other people. The problem is when a lot of people arrive, tag the event, and leave. After that the number of mordrem is overwhelming.

I think LFG works well for the Silverwastes; anytime I’m in a map, once it gets to about 20%, people are happy to join. Getting to twenty isn’t too bad either. I’d say 2 people per fort can tak all the forts and that alone gets the progress bar going.

So don’t be discouraged about empty seeming maps; they can fill quick.

And Donari is right, using seige in those maps is very fun, and can make many events go much better. That’s why defending the supply bulls heading to forts is important, and building/defending siege at the vine wrath event.

It actually only takes one person to capture any of the forts, I’ve done all of them solo, and they can be held solo, but it’s much easier with more, a minimum of 4 per fort will not scale up the Mordrem attacks but make defending all the walls much easier.

Indeed. Sooner or later an attack wave will consist of multiple trolls and/or griffs, resulting in a mass of DOT and knockdowns centered on the commander.

The other day i was doing indigo, and found myself face to face with a legendary griff inside the fort!

Things like that makes me feel like the agent looking down the barrel of Trinity’s gun, and hearing “dodge this!”…

They really need to fix this part. For events in general, not just Silverwastes.

Clarification is in order here: I should have specified that I can hold a fort at a Level 1 Mordrem attack solo, but anything beyond Level 1 is beyond my capabilities, though I have heard players state they’ve been able to hold a fort for a longer period of time.
