Perhaps there is no Balthazar...
I doubt that gemstore stuff will ever be a reason to argue “upcoming content hint”. Abaddon had a big indirect role in episode 6 and ArenaNet wanted to capitalize on that, is probably all that there is to it.
Either way, we’ve been told time and time again that Abaddon is dead, gone for good, that his story has ended and just his legacy, his past, remains. In Nightfall, and reaffirmed indirectly in Season 2, we’re told that both Abaddon and Kormir “merged” together – Abaddon’s knowledge and power, Kormir’s body and will – thus neither of the old survived, the new being that formed from the combining just taking on Kormir’s name.
Besides all that, episode 6 was practically shoving it down our throats that Abaddon was “the good guy” during the Exodus, by a botanist NPC and the Priest of Abaddon among more. Though they present such claims as their opinion (well, the Botanist does, the priest doesn’t but his claims don’t match GW1’s deeds so…), but if they were to bring back Abaddon, retconing themselves yet again, it seems they’d be going with their original desire to have Abaddon redeemed somehow.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

Probably true, but then again we got Balthazar outfit and weapons, and in due course he showed up.
And there is the trailer reference to ‘one stayed behind’.
Even better, Abaddon makes sense in terms of ultimately NOT having one of the established Six turn out to be a villain. (Just think of all the human characters who chose Balthazar as their god.)
The Balthazar stuff is hardly really indicative at Balthazar showing up… The weapons and outfit were added in april 2015.
That’s over two years before Balthazar showed up in the plot.
Again, hardly indicative that the plot was going to go towards Balthazar. Next up is Dwayna the evil goddess of life, right? After all, her weapons and outfit showed up in June/August 2015.
Given that episode six didn’t reveal a new god, you can find it a safe bet the “one stayed behind” is a misnomer / over-hype for Balthazar’s return (wouldn’t be the first time ArenaNet did such). And even then, Abaddon did not stay behind, he too left into the Mists – albeit by force. The only god who could be argued to have stayed behind is more than likely to be Kormir (none of the gods have shown themselves capable in hiding among humans for decades let alone a millennia).
It’d make infinitely more sense for it to be Menzies over Abaddon, given the fact that Abaddon is dead and his power and knowledge and will all absorbed by Kormir (and this is ignoring the aforementioned continuous repeating mentions of Abaddon being dead and gone for good by ArenaNet devs). The only way we’re logically getting Abaddon’s return is through a corrupted and evil Kormir.

We also got a dwayna outfit and weapons. She didn’t show up either.

could be fun, little bit stretchy – but fun
random thought: in before it will be huge revelation in like 3/4 of the PoF story that balthazar was not acting on his own but was actually tricked into all of it by corrupted-evil-kormir-whom-is-abaddon-but-with-bewbs-now
that would make quite a nightfall2.0reskin xD
[and if that would happen at this point I’m not sure if I would be more dissapointed in just how plainly stupid and low it is or be dying out of laughter over hwo stupid and low it is xD]

Well think about this…
Maybe there’s no balthazar because we’re all balthazar

So before we go to fight the main fallen god antagonist, as an uncomfortable ally of Palawa Joko, we first have to defeat an Elonian woman driven mad by the influence of Abaddon? This sounds vaguely familiar.

Not that stretchy, since we know that his will still exists but was merely “broken” thus no danger from him – broken things can be fixed.
Plus, there’s this little guy spouting out this interesting line:
“A new god is born! A god that will destroy the others and bring about the end of the world! The cycle begins again!”
While it’s dubious to trust these NPCs due to their name, it does give one some pause for thought.

I wonder if this is a new trend…all the gods coming back and they’re all evil now…we have to take a break from fighting dragons to fight all of them…

I was thinking more in-line that after we kill one mad god antagonist with unconfortable ally of palawa joko AND the dragon, we proceed to go kill actuall main villain god being the soruce of all evil taht happened to tyriaa in last 250+ years :P

very interesting find indeed
as for abbadons “will” – didn’t only knowledge and power prevailed according to official story?

I guess someone didn’t play guildwars1..
Abaddon is completely and utterly destroyed..
his divinity.. power.. knowledge.. life force.. everything was taken from him and absorbed into Kormir..
There is nothing left of Abaddon.. not even a corpse.

Nightfall was first GW game I ever played :|
hence my surprise on someone’s claim that “his will survived altho broken”

Technically I’m saying one could pull off the story that his will survived. The exact wording we got in-game was:
<Party leader>: “Kormir?”
Kormir: “No. Yes. Kormir. And much more.”
<Party leader>: “Abaddon?”
Kormir: “No. His power. His knowledge. But not him. His will is broken. There is a new god of secrets. There is a new day.”
Which doesn’t say he is forever gone, just that the goddess that came out was not Abaddon, but had part of him within her. Basically, the “Kormir” that came out was the combination of mortal Kormir and god Abaddon. Both as individuals ceased to exist.
There were devs that repeatedly stated Abaddon was gone for good (though with how often they’re contradicting interviews now I’m afraid that’s not much proof anymore…), but if Kormir were to go evil because Abaddon’s broken will got “mended”, would it really be Abaddon that’s returning, or just Kormir going evil? After all, Abaddon and Kormir both ceased to exist, so if the new goddess of knowledge went rogue due to Abaddon’s influence, it is not technically a return of Abaddon.
And yes, that is a bit of splitting hairs, but that’s the point – one can “bring Abaddon back” while “Abaddon is dead and gone for good” remains true.

Yes, his will survived… in the One Ring that was forged in secret (because he’s the God of Secrets). Guess who else forges stuff in GW? That’s right, Balthazar!!
Now Balthazar has the One Ring and Abaddon is carrying out his will through Balthazar and the One Ring. We must now journey through MordorRing of Fire Islands and destroy the Ring in the fires of Mt. DoomAbaddon’s Mouth.
Well, we resurrected Lazarus just so we could kill him, i guess any stupidly insame out of this world twist of the story is possible.
My 2 cents: Balthazar is in reality that dude that got stuck in the well.
I played a ton of GW1, but the argument that Abaddon can’t come back if the writers want it strikes me as weak. All plot twists are possible, and he would have survived as a powerless shadow of himself. And as to other gods coming back, as foreshadowed by the all-knowing Store of Gems, it is quite possible they will weigh in.
Abaddon just has such better motivation than Balthazar – revenge, need to rebuild power.

technically, anything is possible with enough writing and setup, including the fact that this was all a dream your character had, or it’s actually purgatory because you died during your first mission.
honestly i’m a fairly big fanboy of abaddon being included myself (my main from GW1 – an elementalist – coming from a family of abaddon archivists and using some of his secrets to stay alive all these years) but i’d rather we ‘discover’ things about abaddon rather than actually have him come back. (maybe he knew about the dragons and made some preparations and the gods didn’t want to upset their mortal flock so they had to silence him, etc.)
