The original Personal Story already works like this as long as you’re on the same story step as the instance owner. You get a pop-up at the end asking if you’d like to accept credit for completing each step.
If you are NOT on the same step (either for living story, or personal story) you will not be eligible for progression credit.
TL;DR – Personal Story and Living Story group progression works exactly the same, and always has.
There are some great arcs hidden in personal story. Just because they don’t have cinematic showmanship and Zitian fight was failure doesn’t make the whole personal story bad. It has its moments. my favorite is the terminator golem fight personally.
