Yes, the story steps will be restored to their original order. We’re looking into removing the airdrop step as part of the fixes as well.
My advice to people who are interested in playing the restored Personal Story (which will include the Greatest Fear steps, original chapter 8 ordering, and various minor text and VO updates) is to not complete A Light in the Darkness (in chapter 6). That way you’ll be able to play the restored content in its entirety when it goes live.
We’re currently discussing release dates and will share that information when we’re able. Thanks again for all your great suggestions and patience.
ANet may give it to you.
They completely destroyed the personal story as part of the “New Player Experience” because it was too confusing for new players when it actually made sense.
They’re working on fixing it though.

Awh crud, I really wish there’d been some kind of ingame notice, I already completed a Light in the darkness on my main guy.

Yeah, unfortunately they really messed up the personal story, chopping it up like that. I have no idea why they did that.

Extremely high probability it didn’t comply with China’s censorship laws.

Source? Examples of what conflicted with their censorship laws that wasn’t in the remainder of the personal story?

Ingame notice, out-of-game notice, any kind of notice. The word needs to get out so everyone new or making new alts knows to stop PS at the right point if they want to see the proper story in the last couple of chapters. I’ve been mentioning the issue in map chat now and then when playing in lower-level zones.
But completing A Light in the Darkness is okay, as long as you haven’t gone further. I asked and it was confirmed by Stein that my character who chose his fear and then stopped PS will still be able to do the repaired story. He’ll only miss some minor changes to Light in the Darkness.
The thing is that they didn’t even bother to change conversations in order to go with the new arrangement of the story steps. They simply took the story missions as they were, hit the shuffle key and then nodded in satisfaction, completely oblivious to the fact that the entire story after “A Light in the Darkness” doesn’t make any sense anymore and even provides major story spoilers now, like Elli telling you that Zott is dead, even though you haven’t met either of them before. Or Sayeh pretending to know you and you’re just like “who the kitten are you?”. The best thing of all is that Trahearne requests your help in the cleansing of Orr, while the player simply facepalms and mumbles “Trahearne, we already did this like 8 missions ago”.
The display of incompetence in this matter is only excelled by the recent ‘patch.’
eh they shoulda just kept the story as it was, if people were getting their heads kicked in via story, its common sense to level up through map completions and other methods before going to the next part.
if I had to guess, the story was remoddled because you got a bunch of kids that cant play the game without keeling over in a few hits. and then crying to the mods about it.
