Trahearne can’t be fixed. Please kill him off!
I see a lot of people asking for Trahearne’s death and blood, and I think that would be a huge, HUGE succes! Why? In short: It would be the end of the ‘Trahaerne’ cycle.

When Trahearne came into the story, players were pre-conditioned not to like him, because of Trahaerne’s character itself.

1. Throughout the entire personal story, from level 1 to finish, we are introduced to characters who befriend us for about 10 levels, then simply get replaced. By level 50, when Trahearne is introduced, we already get that feeling about him as a “Boring character".
2. Our mentor’s death. As players, we thought our mentor would actually stick with us, as they remained for more than 10 levels. Our mentors had spicy, fun personalities, and then they are suddenly replaced. That felt really bad and thats why Trahearne must die.
3. Trahearne came off TOO much as our nemesis. There wasn’t much time to build trust, even during the Sylvari storyline. It felt like he was being shoved in our face during the Claw Island arc, and that instantly made him unlikeable to many, thus, kill him plz.
4. Praise without any exposition. We met Trahearne, and he seemed like an incredibly humble scholar, and he seemed okay. But then other NPCs continuously praise him, and we learn he’s some sort of HERO BADDASS WHO TRAVELED INSIDE AND OUT OF ORR LIKE IT’S NOTHING! Yet to Trahearne, he likes to be kitteny about it. Okay, that’s all fair, and if he’s a kitteny baddass, that’s not pretty cool. But here’s the problem with that: TRAHEARNE MUST DIE

So why do people hate him, Trahaerne himself? he sucks!

However, this concern about Trahearne cant be addressed anymore, and there were a few instances where I felt genuinely disinterested in his character. During the Sylvari Personal Story, we got to see him interacting with Caithe, while during the Claw Island arc, he was humerously remarking upon his misadventures with Sieran, and he actually made me want to punch a kitten in the mouth! It was the few scenes like those, where we actually got to see his personality and interactions with others, which actually gave players a profound hate for Trahearne!

Sure, Trahearne is a stoic Necromancer who has confidence issues, who is still a little shy even at the party after you defeat Zhaitan (Lol what a nub). But at the same time, if done right, you kill Trahearne off.

What defines a character’s personality are tension, conflict, and their approach to problems. In Trahearne’s case, he is not too good socially, and he is quite shy. Interacting with Taimi and getting a little embarassed around her, is a good way to define who he is. Or perhaps even more interesting, his interactions with a muscle-head like Braham, since Trahearne is a scholar Necromancer who uses tactical reason over Braham’s brute force.

My point is that Trahearne cant be good, even if done right, and killing him off would be a good decision since nobody truely likes Trahearne. ANET should instead return Tybalt, Forgal and Sieran.

So for pete sake, PLEASE kill Trahearne! (Love, the whole of the GW2 Playerbase)

This! This above all else is why he has to die! I’d really like to ask the writer of the PS why they thought it was a good idea to have him say this at the beginning of every fight. I often thought, “yeah I know Trahearne, because I’ll have to rez you in about 30 seconds…again!”.

The worst NPC character ever!

I haven’t 100% finished my story yet, but i’ve gotten pretty far in and while Trahearne isn’t my favorite character, and i would’ve definitely preferred to still have (in my case) Sieran in the personal story, i’ve nothing against Trahearne. In my eyes he is still a protagonist, and such, i do hope he stays alive.

But who will warn us about ‘pooiiiiison?’

I started out thinking he was fine, on my first character. By Orr, I had heard enough of him. By the end, I was praying he’d turn out to be the real villain. All subsequent characters zapped every conversation in which he appeared.

Well, I can’t say I hate Trahearne myself. But, his character flaw of lacking proper presence as a leader which makes him a very boring leader. That being said though, I like his thoughtful attitude and he hardly ever rubbed me the wrong way all that much. As for Scarlett, I haven’t played S1 of the living story, but from what I can make up on on previous game footages on youtube, she’s way too obnoxious as a villain.

I’ve had serious issues with Trahearne from the beginning; he goes from indecisive “He just sort of hangs out in Orr and studies things, without actually fixing or changing anything”, to essentially taking all the glory/credit that the Personal Story shows as being done by the player. “Well done on killing that dragon, but it pales in comparison to myself being back here and thinking about the battle being waged.”
I’d be up for Trahearne dying, though it may lend him more gravitas in death than he deserved in life; perhaps if his death came as part of the big reveal that the Pale Tree itself is corrupted?

“He just sort of hangs out in Orr and studies things, without actually fixing or changing anything”

That’s actually not entirely correct. His ritual for cleansing Orr is still in effect. It’ll just take time until Orr is fully cleansed. So he IS fixing and changing Orr.

Trahearne ftw!

Alright, let’s do this again for the seventh time this month. Though to save everyone’s time I will just resume how the thread will go, my respective against general arguments.

-Strongly disagree with the notion of removing a key plot character merely because of a minor distaste towards his personality.
“But that’s exactly why he should die!”
-Not really, the game is full of awful, cliche personalities that will remain despite they have no actual relevance to the plot; At least Trahearne suffices a purpose.
“But he doesn’t do things/should not be leading the Pact/his personality doesn’t fit, et cetera!”
-Whoop dee kitten doo, in case nobody has noticed this; that’s absolutely the case for every single major character in the setting, Trahearne simply got the spotlight and escapegoat complex because they needed a main character to simplify the amount of work applied into your character’s choices
“But we could have so much better than him! / Things would change if Trahearne died!”
-Oh yes, storyline has gotten so much better since we started killing off underdeveloped characters. The marvel of the already low on funds writting of the Living Story will explode into a myriad of wonders and lightworks if we go down the route of just killing characters that weren’t properly developed just to throw a bone at the random player with personal vendettas towards the plot escapegoat.

I know I am skipping the parts where we go at each other about the validity of our claims, the section about “my tastes < your tastes!?”, and all of that, but I am sure that will come right after this, so I will just let that go on for the next twenty pages.

I think if he’s going to die, it has to involve some surprising character twist. It also has to be completely believable – not some forced twist, such as him just happening to “get corrupted.” Getting “corrupted” (in some magical-ish way) seems to be Anet’s one way to have a character change sides.

I would love to see characters turning against each other because of conflicting goals and motivations, and because of questionable morals.

Already, I’ve seen too much of this, “We hate each other for some reason.”

“Yeah, I don’t like you! You’re stupid!”

“We have to work together now, because dragons.”

“Yeah, let’s work together now! I kinda like you, after all!”

Or words to that effect.

Well I don’t really mind if Trahearne live or dies, I just want ANet to do something meaningful with him.
Although Trahearne’s death can be rather interesting if done right. Remember Traearne’s wyld hunt is (basically) over. He’s started the process of cleansing Orr and ion time it will be. For Trahearne or any Sylvari the end of their wyld hunt is probably some sort of an existential crysis, from the moment they’re ‘born’ they have a purpose a goal to achieve. But what does a Sylvari do when that goal has been achieved? How much experience could Trahearne have with being the captain of his own life? It seems to me more that he’s just been falling from one ‘destiny’ to another. Even becoming the leader of the Pack was preordained by the Pale Tree (so he didn’t choice it much like he didn’t choice to cleans Orr).
So yeah, this could be a story of Trahearne learning some agency in his life (and possibly realizing that he should or shouldn’t be leading the Pack) or if you want to go darker realizing that fate is inescapable and now that he’s fate is played out there is no role for him and that without a preordained plan for his life he has nothing to do but wither and die, essentially what each of us much do eventually come to grips with our own mortality.

But that’s just my thinking, I’m sure there’s a bunch of other more interesting ways he’s story can play out.

Trahearne did address the end of his Wyld Hunt as a dooming outlook, yet by the time Zhaitan is gone, he remarks he sees it as a challenge and an oportunity to see beyond the limits of his people.
Killing him off out of the Wyld Hunt syndrome would probably screw up on this realization. Not saying I put it beyond Living Story team’s capability of “Wait, what?”-ing characters, but it would fall short on Trahearne’s actual character and its development.

Time to buck the trend.

I quite like Trahearne. His almost-clinical personality and approach to everything that he does is a refreshing change from the typical bubbly characters like Caithe or Eir.

Why do I rope Eir in with the “bubbly” crew? Her personality in Guild Wars 2 is so different from the Eir I know from Edge of Destiny. Yes, she lost a lot (not a spoiler, you all know this from your personal stories) but she’s taken a very un-Norn-like approach to remedying the mistakes of the past.
