Please just sell weapon tickets directly
I dont mind the RNG boxes as much as I mind how to get them. Now that they are offering them in the open world through multiple things, I’m a lot less mad about it. I understand though why they do it. They have to make money some how without a sub. This is a small price to pay for something with no sub.
if you haven’t yet, you can check out gw2hub’s preview and they mentioned that the coffers drop relatively easily and getting the weapon tickets shouldn’t be too much of a hassle.. at least not compared to the last few installments of skins.
and iirc, coffers will be available for the TP as well. so you can count on the hardcore farmers to help us all out. XPP
GW2Hub: People are keen to avoid the RNG that has plagued some of the previous content, is there going to be a large proportion of randomness to obtaining the best items or can players expect to complete the content and be rewarded?
Will (Fairfield, ArenaNet): We feel with this that we have a good mix of both of those. We have one set of holographic wings that come from Dragon Ball (a rare chance of getting it) and also the meta-achievement to get another set of wings. They are the shattered wings while the drop wings are bat-like. Those can also be bought off the Zhaitaffy vendor. As far as weapon drops, we will have a weapon set available and tickets will drop in regular and rich Dragon Coffers which you can get in the gem store. The regular Dragon Coffers, unlike other festival boxes will be tradable. They will drop off everything in the world and are rewarded them for doing almost everything.
We like the RNG style, but we also like to offer players several different ways to get rewards. We’ve given RNG and a way of working at it as well. The odds are much better than before. We’ve also modified multiples of rewards so you get them much more (as opposed to once). We feel that’ll give players the more ability to get what they want. Lastly, the weapon sets available is also a full set and we’re adding a Black Lion Specialist where players can use any previously unused tickets to obtain items from Wintersday or a choice of the molten weapons.
though in the end, we won’t know until Dragon Bash starts.. which is SOON! : )))

Ok so the drop rate will be better….its still RNG and Anet seam obsessed with RNG< which is just frustrating. RNG forclovers, RNG for precursors, RNG for weapon skins, its annoying.
They’d get a decent amount of money just sellign the damm tickets.

Unfortunately we have no actual information that they’d get close to or significantly more money than the current setup.
I suppose the good thing here is that the chests also have other things that are desired, such as a chance for the dragon wings, a new mini, and other consumables needed for the event.
Its the same discussion every month. The make more money with RNG. Accept that. Think about it from a business perspective, especially one like theirs were they have contracts and debts towards a publisher. I dont like it at all, mind you. But its pointless to tell them to stop making more money and instead focus on making less money to make us happy. That’s not how a business operates.
If you can come up with a way for them to make even more money that also makes us happy then suggest that. But “sell them directly in the shop” doesnt make them more money then RNG so think of something else. I’m all ears.
For anyone wondering how you can tell that RNG makes them more money: because they keep doing it. They keep doing it because we keep buying it.
Please, no more RNG failboxes or appalingly low drop rates.
Just sell the weapons tickets directly in the Gemstore.
Slap a reasonably high price on it if you want Anet, but I dont think anyone fines you RNG failboxes fun or worthwhile. And why design weapon skins hardly anyone gets to use. that kind of limited access stuff belongs in other MMOs, I expect better from GW2.
I am 100% behind you on this one. My boycott of it continues.
I agree with the OP as well. I have not and will not participate in this activity and do not think it belongs in the game.
Think about it this way. We all know about WoW and the 15 bucks a month sub fee that came with it. Anet put no sub fees, no recurring payments of any sort. This is their way of maintaining that business model. Their way of providing a game without obligatory or mandatory payments. I think they’re doing what they can to appease us players, but they need this kind of money to keep running. They gave you a game without a monthly fee and now they’re asking for the playerbase to voluntarily give them financial support to keep this going. And RNG makes them money.
I dont participate in the buying of RNG boxes with real money…and yet I have both of the Jade items I actually wanted (shield and staff) anyway. Opened 1900 coffers that I bought off the TP, cost me about 50g.
This event is the fairest one yet, the normal coffers drop off EVERYTHING ….can’t see the problem.
The trouble is that I want four skins. I’ll happily pay for them, but if I wanted a boring farming grind I’d just play wow. I don’t want fireworks, candy or food, I don’t care about the wings, I just want the weapon skins, and I can’t see why I can’t just buy them. I don’t like gambling and I don’t like grinding. I’ve already decided I won’t get a legendary weapon because I don’t like RNG. if it drops into my lap, fine, but i’m not going out of my way to get one because gambling sucks and again, if I wanted to bore myself to tears grinding an RNG box withh RNG items inside I’d go play panda superfriends boring time.
I wouldn’t be surprised if you took the amount of gems spent on RNG boxes per ticket handed out (the total amount spent on RNG boxes divided by the number of tickets dropped from those boxes) is equal to a gem value so high that it would cause sticker shock.
With RNG boxes, you don’t get sticker shock because you’re spending only what you believe to be a reasonable amount of gems at a time. It’s kind of like small monthly payments over a long period of time looks better to many people than one lump sum payment — but much worse, of course because of RNG.
Yeah, the RNG gods didn’t smile on me for the fused weapon skins which is what I REALLY wanted, nor did they even glance my direction for the sclerite weapon skins, and so far, they are just pretending I don’t even exist for the Jade weapon tickets…
Just let me buy a ticket for $5 in the gemstore and I’ll buy a couple of them…

The trouble is, that 15 you spent on WoW just won’t get you very much here. You could buy a few chests but the chances of you not even getting a single skin is quite high.
If you could just buy the weapon skins in the gem store then this problem wouldn’t exist. I can’t say what method makes Anet more money but I know that I personally won’t spend real money on a chance to get a skin, and that seems like quite a common stance around here.
Put tickets in the chests from day 1, sell tickets on the gem store halfway through event. Chests become a bonus, “chance to get them before anyone else and show them off”, which is a pretty strong driving force, but players can always wait and get them directly/guaranteed and don’t feel like they’re being scammed. Then put the tickets into the BLC after event is over, increasing the BLC’s chance value over time.
I think that’s the best solution overall.

actually, i believe a lot of people are buying their RNG boxes.
which is why they believe it is a recipe for success.
expect more RNG boxes in the future!
Yup, knowing time and gold = EFFORT that players can put into this is better than PURE DUMB LUCK. But as with F&F and Southsun, Anet and/or NCsoft (whoever is deciding these things) simply refuse to listen to their players.

I think this would be a good idea for increasing the interest in the BLC. If only you could get a key a bit more often :/
