Guild Wars 2

So my friend just recently got back into Guild Wars 2, which has been exciting. However, she’s found herself unable to enjoy the living story bbecause for some reason it will not unlock for her, despite being online for this segment. She’s under the impression that she needs to buy the previous chapters in order to play the current chapter of the living story.

Is this the case? Because if it is, that’s ridiculous. What sort of reward is that for returning players? Sure, at some point she might wanna see the beginning, but should she not be allowed to play the content she’s here for -now- without a pay gate?

Someone please tell me this is some sort of glitch or mistake on her end. Anet, is this truly the business model you’re now presenting us?

Is she at level 80? If not she won’t get in yet.

Sounds like a glitch. Might want to send in a support ticket about it.

Seeing as you stated she has not played for a while (“just recently got back into Guild Wars 2”), perhaps she has the unlocking of the current chapter still queued up in her account pending tasks.

As the pending tasks are tied to the trading post Pick Up tab, having a lot there to pick up could delay the unlocking of the current chapter’s place in the pending task queue.

Have your friend ensure that they empty out anything in their Pick Up tab in the BLTP interface. Doing so should trigger the green star icon (usually above/below the mini-map where daily chests/hearts pop up) to notify of the chapter becoming unlocked for them.

If i remember correctly, there was a message about a glitch on GW2 twitter on the day of Dragon’s reach P1 release…. they said something like they have a bug which causes the living story episodes to require payment in order to play, and they are trying to fix it for the release. I guess somehow this bug might have remained for your friend then.

Shes not much of economy person… but i’ll double check she’s not got stuff sitting for pick up.

Make sure she empties out her mail, as well. Guild Wars 2 seems to have a queue issue all over.

Did she click on the little floating thing in the bottom right of the screen? (or if there are chests there, did she open all of them? You can only have 3 shown at a time)

She does not need to purchase the previous chapters to play the current one.

If she is not a level 80, she won’t be able to play it, but it should still unlock for her. She should still get the green star pop up, after she gets it, she’ll need to go into the journal (on an 80) and select the current chapter to make it her ‘active story.’ She won’t have this option on a non-lvl 80 character.

If the episode is not unlocking for her, try having her check / clear her TP purchases. This was a bug that affected the last story chapter as well, people that accepted the things waiting for them in TP were able to get the unlock at that point.

Beyond that, have her submit a support ticket and they should help clear the issue for her.

Is her Pick Up tab full from the Black Lion Trading post? If it is, ask her to try to empty it and then relog.

She couldn’t perhaps upload a screenshot of the story window?
But yeah, if she wasn’t around for the previous episodes than they won’t be available, but this current episode should be available.
