I had so much fun ! Please bring back Peter as much as you can, not only he’s awesome as a writer, but he’s funny as hell and Kate just matches him word for word.
I chuckled for thirty minutes and my hat’s off for the finale, you guys are BRAVE! (Trying stuff that tastes like “butt” is not for everyone)!

As a means of giving players insight into the LW episodes Point’s of Interest kinda fails (they don’t really say all that much). As a means of giving players insight into the people making the game and putting a human face to LW I think it’s a great success.

I just stumbled across POI yesterday and ended up watching all 5 episodes. i just wanted to listen to it in the background, but kate welch, being an amazingly interesting human being and a great host, made it impossible for me. i just had to watch the kitten ed thing.

While I still have to agree to CureForLiving, that it’s not the best considering they want to inform people about the LS and what’s going on (stating the obvious is not really giving information), i really enjoyed watching it and am looking forward to future episodes.

oh, and the episode where peter tells about writing the quaggan panhandler? epic!

I love Points of Interest. It’s a really good effort to help us get to know the devs. Love Anet =)

I just watched it and the only thing that came to my mind was… Did they state something we do not already know?

It’s a recap of the past update, so ok about that one. Then there are questions…
- Are the crystals a reference to the Mursaat? “We cannot rule out this idea”…
They could give us a hint of yes or no, just to communicate but they can only dodge the question. “Is Livia actually the Great Dwarf, who is the mighty entity that controls the EDs?” “We cannot rule out this idea”…
- Are we gonna see people from LS1? “We will see people we haven’t been seeing for a while”… Namely every NPC that appeared before Scarlet’s events?

“Time for speculations!” … They speculate about what happened, shouldn’t they call it the “failed theories segment”?

To me, it appears they only blow hot air to give us the impression they share things with us every two weeks.

The idea of Points of Interest is about what, recapitulating everything we’ve seen so far (plus some giggles), or give the players new interests for the future of the game? I don’t think that this stuff is useful as long as it is all about “We retell the story and say we cannot ‘answer the question/rule out the idea’ provided”…

Do you honestly expect them to spoil future content? Unlike many other times when it wasn’t necessary (or productive), in this case I actually expect ANet to be evasive about upcoming releases.
After all, I’d rather see and experience for myself what the story is about then for it to be revealed in a show.

Well Kate says she tries not to spoil the story for herself. So as funny as Peter is, it might actually be a better show if she had other people on there who don’t know the end of the story. There is basically nothing any of the devs can say other than try to keep as much of a poker face as possible. They should all wear those oversized sunglasses from the world tournament of poker to avoid giving anything away. Doesn’t make for the most enlightening show when 3/4 of the people on it aren’t allowed to talk about the subject of the show…

To be honest I hope they take a more critical stance in the future.

There is a lot of back patting at the moment (“you xyz did an amazing job” etc.), which is justified, but at the same time it is not all roses and sunshine.

With every patch there are always a lot of worries and problems and I wish they would also give some insight how these things happened and what maybe were the design decissions behind it.

For example the rushed “crown scavenger hunt” of S2E3, which was clearly only designed to revive old and finaly fixed events.

Right now it feels a lot more like a extended comercial for the LS, with some happy developer comentary.

While I understand that no one likes to adress mistakes, because it would shine a bad light on the comapany, etc. , it would have understand why things happen as they did.

Points of Interests has a lot of potential to give us insight into the inner workings of ArenaNet and we just skim the surface.

I wish they would show this every week. One after the patch hits and one a week later, to adress possible problems (which are still talked about).

We do not need a focus on “the future”, as the present is certainly interesting enough.

I myself dislike their way of trying to “predict the furure” and “hyping the next episode” as it something the game should do itself.
Also most of the time what they pic as predictions they pull out are (again, my opinion) rather “lackluster” and played more for giggles.

(also, i will get hate for that, while I like Kates bubbly behaviour I just can`t take the whole thing seriously with her and the points I mentioned above. I do not want it too professional, but again.. she is way to “amazed” by everything…)

I do not ask for spoilers, but mere teasers and/or clarifications. There is a difference between “it is the topic of our next release so we won’t talk too much about it” and “Rytlock is somewhere with Chauncey’kitten, lulz”.

As you say, being evasive is requested not to spoil, but there are far many other ways than simply saying “it isn’t ruled out” or “I can’t answer that”. Of course they cannot answer, but POI would be far more interesting if we go, for example, behind the scene: how did they happen to think of that event, how characters react once they are off-screen, etc. Not simply “I designed that. And you played it. And in the event you do that.” It lacks a reason to watch (I’ve watched only POI1 and 5), as nothing will be revealed or teased. It’s just like you read a book of a saga, and afterwards someone comes with the writer, and they keep saying “In the book, that happened”… Yeah, I know?

I do understand your point of willing to discover the story by yourself (just like I do), but IMHO, giving the community “just a little more” would utterly change the people’s interest for POI…

I loved this episode. I really did laugh a lot and enjoyed everything they talked about.

I’d call out “The Talking Dead” as a cool example for PoI. They have tons of interesting tidbits of trivia about an episode (which PoI often has), some super deep insight in to the characters by the actors who know spoilers (Angel McCoy provides some great insight, I love listening to her talk about the characters from an emotional perspective or what not) and then they also have tons of speculation and teasers and good stuff like that from the fans, which is for me where PoI sort of fails me since the devs simple aren’t allowed to say anything. I’d love to hear super-excited Kate talk to a community guest (Matt Visual maybe??) about speculation, even if it’s only 4 minutes of the show. And maybe Angel could answer some non-softball questions about the story progression by hand picking some questions she can non-spoiler go in to depth about?

Whatever, I’m sure you guys will figure it out. Even if it’s just the Peter and Kate comedy half hour I’ll probably still watch when I can.

Edit: I just noticed this thread where Angel does a great job of exactly what I’d love to see on PoI. She can talk about speculation in great and interesting depth without spoiling anything!

i also love the show. i think its more of get to know your devs and know who does what and who to thank for your favorite parts and i do get a laugh or two out of it every episode and look forward to future episodes

I have watched 3 episodes so far and I find it unlikely I will watch more, why:
1. To much self back patting. I understand that you want a positive vibe going from that show, but not everything is amazing and super and holy kitten, etc…
2. Nothing really new is conveyed, if you played the actual LS then there is nothing new, If you haven’t played it, it’s just a show filled with spoilers…

What would I watch? And how could this show be improved?
1. I would most definitely watch this show if it was about the actual PoI’s in the game. Those that have been there since the start, and from which I know only a few as to ‘why’ they are a PoI.

Adding discussion on just one existing PoI, with the creators in the zone it is in, with lore background on why it is a PoI, with perhaps some pointers to Dynamic Events spawning close to, or being related to the PoI. That could hold my attention… It might even be interesting enough to also discuss the new LS for part of the show. Say:

1. Discuss living story with creators of part of it (10min), pick a different angle every show (so, writers, content designers, modellers, texture, music, sound, creatures) – cycling through this could make every ‘department’ get a spot light during the whole of the LS-episodes.
2. Discuss an actual PoI in the game somewhere (15min), why is it a PoI, lore behind it, Dynamic events related, or nearby. Pick a different angle similar to 1. for each PoI.
3. Put some attention on the Community (5 min) by showing Art. Perhaps also focus on Poetry, Short Story, Music?

That would make the whole show become a bit more ‘meaty’ and actually give developers something to talk about, and more importantly shed some light on the lore behind PoI’s. If the whole ‘the new LS is just awesome, pat our backs, but we can’t say anything more’ would just last for 10min and afterwards we would get some actual insight where things CAN be shared (or perhaps, not, but now with a means for the community to dig into a mystery), that would be worth watching it for me, and I could hopefully deal with the back-patting.

Kate did a great job and I’ll be sad to see her go. You should get Felcia Day to host the show, and then take all her lines and remix/edit/use them as dialogue for Zojja. Voice acting problem SOLVED.

Kidding. About Felicia Day. Not Kate. Kate rocked. Tough shoes to fill, because you need someone who’s reasonably photogenic and who can present/speak well. I’m sure you have someone who will do a great job and I’m looking forward to seeing who it is.

Please just keep it light and fun like it has been with Kate and not the bro-fest that the ready-ups have been in the past.

Points of Interest and Ready Up are two completely different shows, created for different objectives. They are not intended for the same audience, although players can enjoy both if they play all aspects of our game. While Points of Interest discusses Living World episodes and showcases Fan-Generated Content, Ready Up focuses on competitive information, events and updates for WvW and PvP. The tones are different because players expect different things from each show.

I still watch the ready ups for the info, just personally don’t like the atmosphere of all the bro-talk…I understand that some people enjoy that though so I’m not in any way suggesting you change the way the Ready Ups are because I don’t like it.
