I was thinking, since the conversation she was having at the Pale Tree and how she seems to have so much influence in the Shining Blade, The fact that Anise is actually Livia?

The whole conversation was a bit strange:
Canach: Do you treat everyone you encounter like children?
Countess Anise: (laugh) You are a delicate flower, aren’t you? So easily bruised…
Canach: I have a thick skin. I also learn from my missteps. For example, you fooled me once with your illusions, so now I wonder if you’re truly as young as–
Countess Anise: Do not finish that sentence. Not here, not ever.
Canach: At least, a substantial response.

The whole “Youth” question. I never thought much about it at first but when you read Wiki about Livia, it states

“Livia claimed to have studied much of Orrian magic after acquiring the Scepter of Orr, and had retained her youthful appearance. How she had managed such a feat is not known—some tales said she’d sold her soul to become an immortal lich, and others claimed that Livia sacrificed prisoners in the dungeons of Divinity’s Reach and used their blood to give herself eternal youth and beauty.”

I know Livia is a Necromancer and Anise is a Mesmer but we had the ability to be two professions in the first game or maybe she just trained as a Mesmer to fool those people around her. 250 Years is a long time and she has only come to light since the Maguuma update, where Livia spent the majority of her time.

There has been surprisingly little discussion about it, but you aren’t the first to make the Livia=Anise speculation. Her motives are pretty aggressive, and I wonder (hope) that the possibility that she is still using the old dual classes from 250 ago bring some cross class features into the game for PCs.
Talk about a game changer…

Also to top it off. Rytlock has gone looking for his Sword (I am hoping the Mists). What is the chances of him seeing Belinda there and trying to return her? As you can see her stood on top of the wall at Fort Salma, looking over at the Player.

i doubt belinda will return
but i do think that rytlock and belinda will meet up and on our quest to rescue rytlock we get belindas help resulting in she gives us her sword

probly her sword does have some effecton ghosts?
there are two belindas greatsword one glows white..ish..
maybe thats the ghost stainedsword after visiting the mists and rescuing rytlock?!?

so just because there was ONE single line about canach probably joking about anises age…(and women in general dont want to talk about this!!!) several people start to believe uh.. she is clearly almost 300 years old…. >_> yeah sure…

that anise is somewhat using her illusions as makeup i think is totally understandable

i mean kasmeer doesnt want to ruin her favourte dress so she wears an illusionary dress to go into the toxic tower..(back then)

as well as the age you could argue whow as sylvari she looks just like the real deal… that means we cant trust in her human form she is… a big hairy norn
ofc thats the first thing that come to mind if u think about shapeshifting..^^

just because of female.. human…shining blades…do fit does not mean that anise = livia xD

Actually there’s been a large amount of discussion about it, just spread across the LW/lore forums over the last year or so and heightening when she pops up the LW story.

It’s an interesting discussion, but the pessimistic side of me dismisses the speculation concerning Livia onto the same heap as recent speculation of Glints offspring/Mursaat/White Mantle/Realm of Torment. Wishful thinking, but sadly unlikely.

Yeah, I think the clues strongly suggest that Anise is not who she appears to be. She might indeed be Livia in disguise. Although, she’s certainly advanced a long way in Mesmer magic if she is.

Something is rotten in Divinity Reach!

My Guardian want’s Mesmer clones of himself. Can you imagine a Wall of Reflection clone?

Considering we get a glimpse of Livia, at least as readers, helping out Marriner with the Shining Blade in Sea of Sorrows, I have been anxiously awaiting finding out where she is, or at least what she’s been up to, in current times. This theory’s not a bad one, but Anise’s line could have just been, as Canach guessed, the result of him finally getting under her skin.
