Is there an advantage or gain to be had by running through the LW stories on different characters or is it mostly for the storyline and intro to new areas making running it on Alts pointless?

I enjoy the story and like looking for details I may have missed on prior characters, as well as any dialog or other small changes that are tied to the race of the PC. There are also story rewards that you can get on multiple characters. But I can’t think of any major advantage you get from running an alt through the story outside of this. So running an alt through is not necessary, though I don’t think “unnecessary” = “pointless”.

Because the new episodes are short, because the new maps are small, and because I like the idea of learning more and getting faster/more efficient, I’ve been running all my alts through each episode and through map completion. I also like the challenge of trying story/map out on different professions, hearing the different voice actors, etc.

After doing that, I find I have plenty of local map currency (b-rubies, petri-wood, w-berries, + unbound magic) to afford most anything I need. And I don’t feel that I’ve had to grind it out. (Astute readers will realize that is technically a form of “grinding” — I just don’t notice it because it’s a once-per-toon goal, rather than doing the same 20 minute farm over and over again. Plus, completion of this takes a week or three, so it never feels like an enormous effort or burden.)

tl;dr decent rewards and challenges, so worth doing from my perspective; your mileage will vary.

Some episodes are a lot more fun to repeat than others. “A Crack in the Ice” has been the dullest and most tedious episode to date, although finishing it leaves Bitterfrost Frontier as the easiest of the the maps to complete.

Mostly story, but there are some collections that rely on replays like the three order backpacks require you to complete HoT three times. Orherwise some classes can make some achievements easier

I have 6 characters of varying professions. I don’t like to think of them as mains and alts, they are all just different. I’ve done map completion with all of them, and except for Dragon’s Stand have taken all through all the stories.

Each character / profession has its strengths and weaknesses, and the more situations I play them in the better I understand how to use them. I was adjusting traits on my Ele last night to take him through the last step of the Crack in the Ice story without getting flattened. My Guardian and Engineer had no problems at all, but I’m not sure the Ele will make it as he was.

The more situations in which you place your characters, story or open world, the better you and they become.

Guardian, Engineer, Elementalist, Mesmer, Thief, Necro

I always take my Daredevil through story first. That gets the pure suck out of the way (and he’s been my RP main for years, so if there’s anything in the LS that will affect his personal story, I want to know. Not that he’s ICly the commander or anything, but things like Caudecus affect him as a noble of DR as they change the political climate, and you bet the fall of LA is central canon in his story, etc).

For LS2 I then also ran a Guardian and Mesmer through so for repeat runs for achieves I’d have several profession options. Now I’m more likely to get at least a Reaper through after the Daredevil so she can help friends out, get achieves more easily, and just generally survive.

And I took a metric ton of alts through the HoT story so as to complete the ley armor collection. Yet two achieves in Hearts and Minds still elude me ><

Anyway, running it on alts means spotting more details, seeing race/profession/order differences if any, diversifying options for achieves, and gathering more per-character rewards.

if there was a “skip story” option i would, i don’t play a game for the challenge but for the story and building up a character with a bit of exploration.
lately this game is the other way around, allot of difficult places but a boring uninteresting story.

There is a skip story option this time around, for alts at least.. Once you have the new mastery, you can pick up the koda flame and enter Bitterfrost on your other characters.
