Question regarding killing characters
I got tired of it when I first ran a character through all the personal story options of Vigil, Order of Whispers, and Durmond Priory – where EVERY LAST ONE of the mentors dies at the same spot on Claw Island.
I was kind of like – “Really? This is just lazy story writing.”
Every time it happens, it feels like the writers are just making a cheap throwaway attempt to make you have feelings about the story.

It does seem the writers are fond of fridging for the sake of getting a rise out of the player.

It was most egregious with Belinda, who shows up in the storyline just long enough for her to say she’s related to Marjory, then promptly dies the story step afterward so Marjory has to take time off to mourn (and presumably take her greatsword to become a Reaper).
Eir’s death mostly felt like they had to quick-kill her to ditch a voice actor instead of making a powerful moment of loss for Braham (who is barely characterized in the first place).
Most of the other deaths aren’t even memorable.
..Oh wait, I can probably tell which specific death brought this on. :P Trying not to spoiler here, but in the last scene, the victim gets gacked so that
…we get mad at the murder, whom we were going to stomp a mudhole in anyway? We can’t even say the victim got Fridged to set up the Revenge Plot, because we were already going to stab it. So, the death comes off as pretty meaningless.

it seems many like them better than the games they comment on.” -Horrorscope.7632

I don’t think that’s why that person was I killed. I believe that death was so that someone else who was previously our enemy would change sides. I mean, that other person joined before the other dies, but the attack is what inspires the change. (Man, English does NOT accommodate anonymous references well.)
I’m just tired of plot-bullets. I mean, if a character gets surprise beheaded? Sure, ok, guess nothing could be done, but we’re in a world of magic, if someone can get gut-shot, survive about a half-hour while I putz around the mansion looking for kittens and letters, and then a boss fight, then they will be just fine. They’re downed, press F to bring them back up. At worst someone cast Rebound, or Virtue of Resolve, or Shadow Refuge on her and she’ll be dancing before nightfall.
You can’t have it both ways, either death is sudden and brutal, or they’re back in no time.
you spend complaining about it on the forums, you’d be
done by now.”
Am I the only one who is tired of the game killing off all the likeable characters? When I play a game I look to have fun and get away from the negative aspect of real life but it seems even in the game world they want to kill off everyone we like.
Its like the Odd Thomas series of books by Dean Koontz, had I known how the first ended I wouldn’t have read it or any of the others (I bought the first 3 at one time)
Please ArenaNet get away from the feel bad in every story/game.
Anet loves to kill off the competent, heroic characters and leave our party with children and whiners. It seems they think that’s “dramatic” or something.
