A reddit chat about the two watchknights that are hung up in divinity’s reach got me thinking – the watchknights are very cool and I would like to see them remain and evolve in the story. I want them to be more than just “metal stormtroopers”.

A lot of work went into making the knights and the Queen herself adopted the idea of having them as the new human army. They are, we presume, resistant to dragon energies, tireless and hard to kill. We know that they can be adapted with Mesmer magic to do all manner of sneaky things, so they are more than just grunt troops. It is true that Scarlet made use of them as part of her evil clockwork plan, but then, the inquest has used golems for evil, yet the asura do not abandon the golem concept. They are not evil in themselves, they are just tools that can be and were misused.

The Asura or the charr who are clockwork engineers, or even humans like Uzolan, could redeem the watchknights. It would be very fitting if they were used against scarlet and became a part of the human or charr storyline. I am sure players would be interested in a story arc where the watchknights are explored in depth and efforts are made to strike back at scarlet with her own weapons. It would be a fitting end for her to be cut down by her own means, out-thought rather than simply zerged.

Fans of space opera will like the idea, too, of sentient droids. Perhaps, as an interesting twist to the new destiny’s edge backup team (rox, braham and co), they could be joined by a watchknight that has evolved, resistant to scarlets tampering. It is a common but much loved idea that an “assassin droid” or other once negative mechanical becomes a part of the heroic team, with all the ups and downs that such an icon creates. It would need to speak of course, but who is to say that the watchknights cannot evolve or be given that function?

Adding an asura to the mix is next on their list and as I play asura that’s great. But I want to see watchknights back on our side or with a unique one as part of the new heroic lineup. Please arenanet, make it happen. It uses the amazing npc you have created and adds it to the storyline in a satisfying way rather than leaving all that work to be forgotten once the arc is over.

I’m pretty sure that once Scarlet has been defeated we will see the Watchknights used for the original purpose – the protection of Divinity’s Reach.

As a character, if I were living in Divinity’s Reach, I would never want to see those monstrosities again. Of their own will or not, they committed an act of terrorism and that leaves scars/trauma. Who would give them orders? How would you know they couldn’t be tampered with? Why on earth would I ever trust them again when they’d been hacked before, or built incorrectly to begin with, or whatever their lore is? I think the Queen would have a real PR problem on her hands trying to re-use them, especially without any cosmetic changes. That would be an interesting plot-reasoning for forcing them out into the world, though.

As a player, I have no desire to see the watchknight anymore, unless it becomes sexless or gains other be-nippled forms (male). I’d rather hang out with an ~evolved~ golem (I nominate Mr Sparkles) if we’re going down the star wars-inspired droid path.

I reckon the people of DR would be very angry at the watchknight fiasco, huge waste of resourses that could of been better used to push centaurs from Kryta.

Watchknight 1.0 was a total failure. The automatic AI is too vulnerable to reprogramming. It should be cancelled.

Watchknight 2.0 will be a powered exoskeleton armor to be wore by human troops. This weapon must be wore by a human to function, and do not have a mind of its own. The human soldiers will get extra protection and firepower.

Watchknight 3.0 will be giant robots and walkers. Towering 10 stories high and more, these giant warmachines are designed to combat Charr tanks and airships. Each of these will be driven and controlled by 20 humans or more, operating its movement, power and weapon systems.

if they devoted several chapters to use help getting them back yes i wouldnt mind seeing that in ls. a nice little linear story id love to see something with direction that we know where we are going but not the entire route to get there yes id love to see it. clues upon clues on how we are to get where we must to fix the problem yes id love to see it. so op yes i think i like your suggestion for a 4 chapter mini ls story involving the watchknight redemtion

Watchknights are the beginnings of a new PC race . Golems+Steam Creatures+Watchknights = That new thing.
