I can’t say I am the only one who has thought of this but I assuming Arenanet is planning on making personal stories and the older living story instances replayable, here’s how they would be able to tie it in:

We have established that the asuran researcher Dessa is studying Fractals, which are basically fragments of Tyria’s past. It would be such a shame if we gather information for her and not experience the fruits of her research that’s not the loot that players have gathered. It would take place in the same area as the Fractals but it will have an interface showing which story instance would we want to play and all that. The only limitations I can think of regarding this is that it’s going to be just limited to the instances themselves and not the event quests that are part of the story like the battle of Lion’s Arch for example (unless they can make the modifications needed in order to make events like that into an instance format).

I think that’s one way it could work, definitely.
Would certainly add more use to Fractals…
But on the other hand, Fractals always seemed to be more ‘end game’ high level stuff as opposed to a ‘Flash back’ system like this.
As much as I personally would love to see the FotM used for more stuff in game, I think if they are going to make the PS and LS1 instances replayable (which I certainly hope they do) then I think more likely they would use the Story Journal.

When they announced the new Story Journal Arenanet said the Personal Story wouldn’t become replayable because there are certain choices which are made which would changes things for our characters. So basically we wouldn’t be given the chance to remake choices we already made. While some of the fractals do deal with the past, none of them deal with our own personal past.

With that said, the only way I could see them letting use redo Personal Story stuff if it was in a “view only mode”.
