Returning player questions
1. The Living Story, like everything else that uses instances, allows you to take up to 4 friends in with you. They don’t even need to have the chapters unlocked, except they won’t earn any rewards unless they have the chapter unlocked and active. I know you can take friends in with you for the Caithe missions, but I forget what happens to them if you do.
2. For the achievements, there is a pretty generous mix of styles of what you need to do to earn them. I haven’t completed them all, so I can’t really say if they are easier or harder than any other.
3. Depends on the achievement. I still haven’t done all of them, but they seem to be more or less in the same style of things to do. For instance, one achievement is to not get defeated during Taimi’s Game (which is definitely easier if you have friends).
I think I’m confusing Personal story and Living World. Thinking one was the other. I finished the previous PS up to 80, and saving Orr. So there is no new PS until HoT correct?
The Living World chapters (starting with season 2) are essentially personal story steps, except there’s usually something new added along with it. The only real difference is that HoT instances usually have 2 paths to choose from (but not always), while all the living world instances are streamlined to one path. The original Personal Story, though is non-repeatable, in part because the choices made in earlier chapters change a lot more things than just what happens in that instance.
I guess my main “issue” is not wanting to ask for help every time I do one. I miss going on my own in GW1 (okay it was with companions but they were light years better then most pugs. lol) Another MMO I play has finally conceded to the players wish to group when they want to, not because they logged in. Fingers crossed that Anet gets the memo someday. Still love the game, but LS/PS/BS is getting old.
Regarding your expansion question, it depends if you are referring to just doing the story, or the story achievements too.
With a decent build and knowledge of GW2’s mechanics, you shouldn’t have any problems soloing the story. The hardest mission is the final HoT story mission; some people struggle solo, but others, including myself have soloed it on multiple characters. It’s got its fair share of bugs, but I’ve had fewer issues recently than at the launch of HoT.
Story achievements on the other hand are more mixed. Many are easy solo, some are much easier in a group, and a few do require a group. The hardest, Migraine, requires a group capable of doing fractal level content.
