They’re revamping them all eventually.

Why revamp Teq first, though rather than Zhaitan? Because he’s encountered by more players daily. Even if they revamped Zhaitan and made it a really interesting encounter, Teq would still have been more popular.

Don’t get me wrong, Zhaitan was one of my biggest disappointments with this game considering it was one of the encounters I was looking forward to the most, but I’m currently more excited about Teq being revamped because it’s equally a “press 1 to win” fight and I do it more often.

Tequatl isn’t a raid boss that is only for the elites; ArenaNet wants to use the dragon as a way to get the community to come together, have fun, and cooperate for group rewards. Speaking of which, while Tequatl will drop some very juicy loot (minipets and unique ascended weapons with wicked-looking exclusive skins, anyone?), he’ll also reward those who get his health down to certain thresholds.

Stupid idea, guess the game only wants to reward dps and not team play.

This is practice. Feedback from this first revamp will be used to better inform decisions for the next one. They’re building up experience, eventually work up to Zhaitan. Rinse and repeat until we get to the Zhaitan revamp.

Revamp Zhaitan as they are doing Tequatl, make it have more rewards and people would experience it more often, for goodness sake, we’re talking about an Elder Dragon!! Elder Dragons should be the one dropping unique ascended weapon skins and such, not just a general.

BRAVO ANet! I’m really, really happy after reading the notes of new Tequatl battle. It’s gonna be awesome. Finally a raid with tactics which need cooperation. Much obliged.

To people that don’t know what changes are we even talking about…. i’m not gonna spoil the fun. Just look it up via google GW2 Anniversary Bash coverage.

Now do the same with Zhaitan please

I agree they should revamp the Zhaitan fight to where he’s falling into the darkness below but at the last moment he’s like “LOLJK” and gobbles up all of Destiny’s Edge along with Trahearne and then dies.

Guild Wars 2 is not a sequel to the original Guild Wars but merely an alternative story setting.

This endeavor, by ArenaNet, is doomed to fail. After the change, many realms will never stand a chance of defeating Tequatl. People don’t want a challenge. They want to succeed. The fact you dont like a challenge and want just item to be given because you went somewhere, or just log in perhaps is sad itself, but that you claim people dont want it? Dude it’s one of best revamps, and one really needed and anticipated, in the entire game. Exactly what we want. Challenging, tactical, requiring lots of cooperation and special things being done. You want to go and use autoattack on afk for 10min to kill boss? Yea, really pro game. It’s just what everyone is lookin for. It’s like playing quake only your enemy don’t have weapon and is stationary. I cannot believe people are actually whining about this game becoming more challenging in proper ways…… incredible…

I remember loads of people crying about Kholer being to hard and passing 99% of dungeon. This was over half a year ago, dodging or blocking/stability was beyound their gameplay capabilities. But we survived through those… I guarantee after couple runs people will learn the tactics. Bahh – guilds WILL BE running this! So always success probably. Mini Tequatl? Unique Ascended weapon drops? More? Ofcourse, first runs might result in people being “ahhh what is this, why i cant dmg him booOoo fooOoOoo”…. Those people never read anything, dont listen and just zerg up thinking you can do anything by pressing “1”. But after couple runs people will know you need to use canon here and there, cleanse this, protect that… It really isn’t that much complicated, i’ve seen faaar more challenging bosses. But in the reality of GW2 gameplay style it’s simply perfect. ANet did very well job with Tequatl and… even if you are a complete pesimist – you will see that we will pull through and farm him well :P For glory, for gold, for Elona!!!

1 minute to run back from nearest WP? That sounds like the same issue in the Queen’s Gauntlet that everyone complained about (justifiably, imo). This encourages you to not die, but is it fun? No.

Requiring 80 players sounds like an epic fight. But for many that will mean epically low fps. Even worse, with 80 players, won’t we see skill lag similar to the biggest zerg battles in WvW?

As for the 15 minutes, does he just leave after 15 minutes? Haven’t a lot of people complained that the invasions have no impact on the world, and winning or losing makes no difference? Sounds very similar to what we’re gonna have with Tequatl.

I agree that the fight needs to be more difficult. But are these the right way to do it?

Tequatl soloable? I’d like to see that. It’s the only dragon event I’ve ever seen FAIL. And it was EPIC! The place looked like Cursed Shore/Risen Frat Party, but eventually more people came and we beat it. Got 2 rewards as well, one for the failure and one for the win.

I’m looking forward to seeing what they’ve come up with. I hope it includes some awareness that the mobs attacking him are not in front but next to him. A little bite/claw/claw/stomp/tail lash would be nice, too.

Skill lag should not be an issue unless there are dozens of mobs tightly packed with those 80 players attacking them simultaneously.

I would hope that if the event fails, all players in the area will be instakilled and all waypoints stay contested until the next time the event starts. Would suck for the world completers though, but they’re kittened anyway these days with Orr being hell to explore alone.

I’m a player of this game, and I never asked for that. I never asked for Ascended Gear. I never asked for Living Story. I never asked for Fractals or Guild Missions or RNG boxes or moa races. I never asked for any of the stuff they’ve added since launch.

All I ever wanted was what they said we’d get: everything I loved about Guild Wars 1 in a persistent world that’s got more active combat, a fully-branching, personalized storyline, a new event system to get people playing together, and still no monthly fees.

To emphasize their point, they even went so far as to name the game Guild Wars 2.

So. Where’s the stuff I loved about Guild Wars in Guild Wars 2? That’s what I’m asking for. That’s what might make this player happy.

So. Where’s the stuff I loved about Guild Wars in Guild Wars 2? That’s what I’m asking for. That’s what might make this player happy.

In the context of this thread though, does this change make GW2 less like GW?

Last week I did the Wayfarer’s Reverie thing in Guild Wars, and one of the places I had to visit in Kryta was the Mausoleum in Majesty’s Rest where Rotscale and his pals hang out. So logged on with my ranger/paragon and sent her and her Heroes to that locale, but instead of just running in and getting credit for the visit, I decided to tackle ol’ Rotscale. I think I have the bow already, but what the heck.

It took a while to clear out all the kitten ed Clerics and Rotting Dragons and Rotscale’s other defenders, and there was at least one party wipe, but eventually I managed it.

Then the whole gang set in on Rotscale…

Several minutes later, Rotscale was defeated. 30 seconds or so into the battle he’d used all his tricks and it was clear the outcome was not in doubt; still, I had to sit here and whittle away at his health bit by bit and by the time he went down I was beginning to glaze over a little. Now, it would surely have been different and much quicker if I’d been playing my necro/whatever (usually mesmer) as she has more Heroes (all but one, I think) than my ranger/paragon, and therefore has more (and more effective) team builds available.

Still, I had fun with it, even though the bow didn’t drop. But as I said, I think I have it anyway, so whatever.

Comparing that experience to the current Tequatl encounter:

I dive into a boiling sea of other players and attack attack attack until the dragon is dead. Sometimes the other players say funny things in chat. Sometimes they stay really stupid things in chat. Sometimes they don’t say anything. Sometimes there are so many people all attacking at once it gets difficult for me to see what’s going on. Almost always, when I loot the chest at the end, I am disappointed. Blues and greens and trash rares. Very, very, very rarely, an exotic. Sure I can salvage the trash rares and get ecto, but it is (for me) much more satisfying to get something my character can use. The first few times it was fun just for the experience of it, and sometimes now it’s a fun thing to do just for a change of pace, but overall Tequatl (and the other dragon events – and I’ll add that I particularly don’t enjoy Claw, as I feel it takes too long) stopped being fun and became “Okay, what did I get this time? Did I get a cool exotic? No? Well, shucks. That was a waste of time.”

So now they’re going to make the Tequatl event take more time and be more challenging.

Will having to jump over some sort of shock wave make this experience more fun for me? No.

Will having to shoot the bone wall with hylek weapons or whatever – or stand by waiting while someone else shoots the bone wall with hylek weapons or whatever – make this experience more fun for me? No.

Will having Tequatl run off while we deal with something else make this more fun for me? No.

Will having too many people (freeze frame) or not enough people (guaranteed fail?) make this experience more fun for me? No.

Is fighting Tequatl 1.0 in GW2 like fighting Rotscale in Guild Wars?

Well, no.

In Guild Wars, Rotscale is located in an instance. I can tackle him by myself (using Heroes, or I can try to defeat him solo) whenever I chose to tackle him – he will always be there, no timer needed – and I can take as long as I want to defeat him. I can team up with some friends and we can tackle Rotscale together whenever we chose to tackle him, and again take as long as we need. There’s no boiling sea of other players helping (or hindering), there’s no graphics overload from all the crazy flashy attacks all around that keep me from even seeing what’s happening.

Will fighting the new and improved Tequatl 2.0 in GW2 be less like fighting Rotscale in Guild Wars?

Well, I guess it really can’t be much less like Guild Wars than it already is. So, in answer to your question, no, I suppose this change won’t make GW2 any less like Guild Wars. If anything, it will just make this particular aspect of GW2 more annoying and something else I’ll probably end up skipping, like the Claw of Jormag event. I will, of course, give it a shot (or two, or three) before deciding if I want to skip it.

Hope you guys enjoyed reading all that! Now it’s time for me to tackle lunch. Laters.

The table is a fable.

Revamping Teq (or any of the dragons) first instead of Zhaitan actually makes perfect sense for one reason.

More people will experience the new Teq at one time then Zhaitan. This can lead to faster and better feed back which can then be applied to every other mega boss and eventually Zhaitan + the future elder dragons.

Zhaitan himself looked cool.

The problem I personally had with Zhaitan was that he was built up to be this deadly force, and yes, while I get that we weakened him significantly in the PS, the final battle just felt pathetic.

I left the Zhaitan fight feeling like I had murdered a poor innocent creature, who was haplessly defending itself by trying to swipe at my cannons to no avail. I just didn’t feel heroic. I felt like I was beating something while it was down and I didn’t feel like I’d contributed to his death other than hitting 2.

While he shouldn’t be the hardest boss as he’s tied to a story encounter, he should certainly feel epic to fight against as he’s the first story’s antagonist that’s been tormenting the lives of Tyrians for a hundred years.

“Play with your friends.”

My guess is ArenaNet doesn’t know their own game. I tried to ‘play with my friends’ during those invasion mass events and getting in the same district was literally impossible.

Rubbish. All you needed was patience (and just the very smallest amount of luck). If the invasions carry on being popular, here’s what worked for us.

- Get together by a portal into the area in question
- Wait 5 or 6 minutes after the invasion start message for the rush to die down**(depending on who’s where, doing what, it may take that long to get together anyway)
- Then do a countdown and all step through the portal at the same time.
If you don’t all end up in the same copy of the zone, step back out and try again.

It’s not guaranteed, so keep an eye on the clock just in case the 10 minute deadline is coming up. But I did it half a dozen times or more with a group of three friends across three evenings, and whilst on one occasion it took us 4 attempts, we always managed to end up together.

**Clearly you can start sooner, but while lots of people are still joining and new overflows are being created every few seconds, it’s more likely you’ll get split up and have to try again, which is frustrating.
